Battlefield 3: How to Not Die Immedietaly

Updated on June 5, 2014

A game like Battlefield 3 can be tough for a new player to get into. Try as you might to not get killed, there's a lot going on when you spawn, and half the time you may not even be entirely sure what you did wrong. Here are a few tips that will keep your K/D ratio a hair above embarrassing.

Stick With The Pack

It can be tempting to run out ahead of everyone else and make a beeline for the nearest capture point, but it very rarely ends well. Especially if you're inexperienced, your best shot at survival is by working with your squad. Your squad are the people highlighted in green on your map. If you can't find your squad, just stick by other teammates. At the very least, they will probably be more experienced than you. Watch what they do, watch where they go and, if possible, let them get shot first.

Pick The Right Class

If you're new to the game, you may want to pick a class that keeps its distance. The recon class seems an obvious choice, and while on many maps sniping is fairly easy and rewarding, it can also be a difficult job that requires quick reflexes.

If you're new, consider picking something like support. In addition to supplying ammunition to your teammates, you can act as an escort for other players. Both support and recon are more defensive classes, and defense is usually less likely to get you immediately killed.

Learn From Your Mistakes

When you die in Battlefield 3, you'll see exactly who killed you, and with what. When you next spawn, try not to run immediately into the same trap that killed you last time. If a certain class keeps getting you killed, consider trying a different one.

You Can't Fly

If you want to fly, you may be better letting someone else in the pilot's seat. Planes and helicopters are tricky to control in all the Battlefield games, and Battlefield 3 is no different. If you hop in a jet with plans of gunning down the enemy, you'll probably be respawning in less than a minute.

Be Aware

Watch the windows, watch the corners, watch anywhere that there may be soldiers hiding. When you first start Battlefield 3, one of the most common causes of death is probably going to be wandering into the line of fire without even realize it. Watch for movement, watch for grenade indicators, and remember to keep an eye on that radar screen.
