Best Games of 2014's E3 Expo

E3 is a yearly convention where the biggest video gaming companies come together to show off their best games and latest hardware and accessories. So far 2014's E3 has been pretty incredible. I will try to pick the games I most look forward to and the most promising. Some of these don't have pre-orders yet or I just don't know enough about them or not as interested.

Some games are rereleases of games on next gen systems as well. I am also not partial to any one company or system, although I currently play on Xbox 360, xbox one and PC (I like all consoles and PC gaming equally).

With so many games this will likely be one of my biggest hubpages I have done so far as well.

Also I will post the North American release dates when posting the release dates but not the European or Asian release dates. Generally games are released in Japan and in Asia first followed by the United States and then Europe.

Evolve is a game that has been in development since December 2012, first revealed when game publisher THQ filed for bankruptcy.

In May 2011 (before filing for bankruptcy), THQ acquired the rights to an untitled first person shooter developed by Turtle Rock Studios. Turtle Rock studios was previously owned by Valve and they helped create the Left 4 Dead 1 and 2.

Evolve is a 4 player cooperative game with four human players hunt an alien monster. Players can choose to be a monster or one of the four players hunting the monster. So far there have only been 2 monsters unveiled to be able to play, the Kraken and Goliath (a cross between king kong and godzilla.

There are more monsters available when the game comes out. There are four player classes, trapper, support, medic and assault. Each class will have 3-4 different characters to choose from with differing play styles within each class.

The game features a single player campaign as well.

The game is set on the alien world of Shear, and there will be other wildlife on the island as well. Some of the other wildlife is friendly and other wildlife is not. By eating wildlife as the monster you can "evolve" and gain better abilities, stats and more. When you hunt wildlife as a human player you can get bonuses as well.

The game is being released on October 21, 2014 on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

The long running Battlefield series from the publisher Electronic Arts is taking a different route with this game. Instead of being a soldier or having a military background this latest battlefield game is about criminals versus police and police special response units.

You will have access to military grade weapons, vehicles and police equipment such as tasers and handcuffs.

Hardline features new game modes such as Heist, Rescue, Hotwire Mode and Blood Money.

In the game you can complete your missions objectives in a number of different ways, either with violence or not. You can also use a police scanner to find enemies, important objects and evidence.

The plot revolves around Nick Mendoza a SWAT officer who is taking his vengeance out against the United States.

The game is coming out on Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One as well as PC on October 21st, 2014.

The latest game in the Super Smash Bros is coming to not only Wii U but 3DS as well. While staying mostly true to past games there are going to be some new characters added as well as new features. So far 33 characters have been confirmed for the game. Old classic game characters such as Sonic, Mega Man and Pac-Man are also to be in this latest game as well.

For those unfamiliar with the series it is an original fighting game designed for the Nintendo consoles, there has been three made in the past so far, for Nintendo 64, Gamecube and the Wii.

The game mechanics are very different from most fighters in that the game is more focused on the ringing out or knocking someone off the combat arena. Damage adds up over time displayed as a percentage sign and as more damage incurs the farther you get thrown when you get hit. The characters are mostly from current and past games of the nintendo franchise with different versions of the characters as well (such as young and older link). While there is a singleplayer campaign most people play it for the multiplayer either on one screen or via the internet.

There has also been a nintendo gamecube controller adapter for the Wii U being released as well. Since the wiimote and wii controller are mostly motion based and many prefer to use the gamecube controllers. There will also be a special bundle of the game that has the Smash Bros game, special themed gamecube controller and adapter as well.

There will be special stages for both the Wii U version as well as the 3DS version. There also is going to be the option to create custom characters and customize the fighters to your preference.

The release date for the 3DS version is October 3, 2014 with the Wii U being released in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Assassin's Creed Unity is the latest assassin's creed game, set in Paris during the French revolution. There has been a lot of work on the latest game to fix a lot of the problems they have had with the series since the first game.

The story is centered on the main character of Arno Dorian a native frenchman from Versailles who on a quest for redemption rises through the ranks of the Assassin's organization much like Ezio and Altair in past games.

There will be cooperative play in which up to four players can help with special coop missions as well as story missions. Some story missions will be just for single player though.

Mechanics of the game have been overhauled with an emphasis on classic weaponry of the era such as swords and a focus on fencing. There will also be a phantom blade which will play the same role of the assassin's blade in past games, but with the ability to shoot long range.

Parkour in the game has been updated as well with the ability to more easily scale up and down buildings in the game. You will also be able to learn new parkour moves and level up your parkour skill set.

Assassin's Creed Unity will debut on PC, Playstaion 4 and Xbox One on Octboer 28, 2014.

Alien isolation is a first person survival horror stealth game set between the first and second Alien movie. The game is centered on Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter 15 years after the first movie.

Amanda has been sent to find the flight recorder and look into the disappearance of her mother and what happened to the Nostromo,

She is transferred to the space station Sevastopol to find out that an Alien has already infested the station.

As opposed to past Alien and Alien Vs. Predator games this is more of a horror game than action shooter, similar to the first Alien movie.

The player will have to use stealth tactics and sneak around in order to survive. The alien will over time adapt to what the player is doing and will actively seek out the player. Although you can engineer weapons in the game these are primarily to ward off the Alien and also fight other human occupants and androids.

The game has a retro look very similar to the first Alien movie with computer displays being similar to those from the 80's. You can use a motion tracker as well as a flashlight but these produce light and noise (in the case of the tracker) that may alert the alien to your location.

This latest Alien game will be more similar to Dead Space but with a lot less gunplay and older horror games which are more about survival such as Amnesia the Dark Descent.

The game is being released on PC, Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on October 7th, 2014.

The Order: 1886 is a Playstation 4 exclusive coming out in February 20th 2015. Set in an alternate history of London In which an old order of knights keep everyone safe from the half-breed monsters. In this history in the 7th and 8 century a small number of humans started developing animal and bestial traits. War broke out between these half breeds and the normal humans.

Despite humans outnumbering the halfbreeds humans were on the losing side of the conflict. Much later due to the industrial revolution and the inventions that came with it, as well as Blck Water a liquid that extends the lifetime and healing abilities of normal humans, they gain an edge.

In 1886 the war is still raging but along with it is social warfare between the lower and upper classes mainly due to England being in martial law. The upper classes mainly being supported by this newer order of knights.

The game has been in development by Ready At Dawn since 2010 and is a single player only game.

With no solid release date beyond early 2015, this is supposedly the last Metal Gear Game being developed (at least by hideo kojima). This metal gear follows right after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes as you continue to play as Big Boss (not Solid Snake or Raiden).

This game will be the biggest metal gear solid game developed so far, purportedly 200 times the size of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The gameplay will be open world with the player deciding which order to do the missions and accomplishing objectives how they wish. A lot of the same gameplay aspects from Ground Zeroes will be present as well, with the option to carry over the save file from Ground Zeroes. For those unfamiliar with the series it is a tactical espionage game in which you use gadgets as well as weaponry and martial arts to remain undetected.

Kiefer Sutherland is doing the motion capture work as well as the voiceover for Big Boss instead of David Hayter who has done Big Boss and Solid Snake several times in the past.

The game is being released early 2015 to Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and possibly PC.

Batman: Arkham Knight is the latest and final entry in the Batman: Arkham series. Kevin Conroy will be the voice of batman in this entry as well. This is a sequel to Arkham City in which Scarecrow is uniting Batman's enemies in a plot to kill the batman.

While staying mostly true to the past games as far as gameplay there will be aspects added such as being able to use the batmobile. The batmobile has two modes, pursuit and battle mode, the battle mode is turns the batmobile into a tank while pursuit is more for high speed chases and pursuit (such as the name entails). The player will be able to summon the batmobile at will, whether on foot, or if airborne.

The game is about the same in size as the last game with the game taking place in the center of the city. Oracle (Barbara Gordon) plays a key part and she has ste up a makeshift headquarters and batcave in the Gotham clock tower.

The story is centered around the alliance of Batman's enemies around halloween with the Scarecrow threatening the city with his new strain of fear toxin and bombs planted in gotham. This forces the 6 million citizens of Gotham to evacuate with the Batman and the Gotham police department left to deal with the remaining criminals in the city.

Special to this game is a character created specifically for the game called the "Arkham Knight" who is a militarized version of Batman and is a new villain of Batman in this series.

The game will come out on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC in january of 2015.

Far Cry 4 is an upcoming open world first person shooter debuting on Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 18, 2014. Not much is known except that the single player story follows Ajay Ghale who returns to his home country of Kyrat (fictional country in the himalayas region). Originally coming home to scatter his mother's ashes he becomes caught in a civil war against a self appointed dictator king (an old friend of his) Pagan Min.

The last Far Cry was very popular and had a very popular spin off DLC called "Blood Dragon" as well. With many game elements similar to the last entry there will be new elements such as the ability to ride elephants.

Bayonetta 2 is an upcoming game coming exclusively to Wii U. While some have had problems with it being exclusively a Wii U title for the sequel (due to Wii U being mostly motion and touch based controls), this game would have only been possible had nintendo partnered with the developer Platinum Games. At first the sequel didn't seem likely unless the first one sold well. The game is also being created under the supervision of series creator Hideki Kamiya who has created Devil May Cry, Okami and having worked for capcom and on the Resident Evil series in the past (see my squidoo lens on the devil may cry series here: http://www.squidoo.com/devil-may-cry-series-guide).

Bayonetta 2 is similar to the past game but with a two player mode as well as touch controls. Bayonetta is a hack and slash similar to Devil May Cry but gone in a different direction. You play as we Bayonetta an umbra witch who can use demonic and witch powers as well as use guns and weapons on her feet and with her hands as well.

In this sequel Bayonetta is sporting a new costume and new haircut (but still very similar). In the sequel you will try to save your former rival Jeanne from hell when she tries to save Bayonetta from a demon summoning gone wrong. In the new game you will fight demons as well as angels, and travel to Inferno (Hell) as well as Fimbulvinter (that links Paradiso or Heaven and Inferno).

Bayonetta 2 comes out on Wii U exclusively on October 2014.

The latest Borderlands game will take place between the first and second Borderlands game. The game will follow four protagonists like it has in the past. The storyline will follow directly after Borderlands in which Handsome Jack is trying to escape his exile on the Hyperion moonbase and capture it for himself. The story will show how Handsome Jack starts out good but by the end transforms into the evil villain he is in Borderlands 2.

The Four playable characters which have shown up as NPC in some form or another in past games will be Athena, Wilhelm, Nisha and Claptrap.

On the moon the gravity will be much less with the ability to jump higher but much slower. Also due to the decreased gravity loot and dead bodies will float away in the game. With the use of O2 or oxygen tanks there will be the ability to double jump, hover and do ground slamming attacks. There will also be different types of O2 kits which will affect your stats as well as add elemental effects to your ground slam attacks. There will be two new weapon types as well, laser-based weaponry as well as cryogenic weaponry.

The game comes out on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on October 14, 2014.

The 11th Call of Duty game so far is being rebuilt from the ground up. With a complete new game engine and redone completely. It is being developed for all current generation and last generation systems as well as PC. It will be released on November 4, 2014. Call of Duty is one of the world's most popular First Person Shooter franchises.

This game is set in the future in 2054 in which large private military companies rule the world. One of the largest, the Atlas corporation (CEO and founder of Atlas voiced by Kevin Spacey), sets to attack America based on its beliefs that America hasn't been spreading democracy around the world.

The game has redone the game engine, audio, animations and so much more from the past. This game has been in development for around three years so far. Multiplayer will play a big part as it always does in the Call of Duty franchise as well. There will be co-op modes as well available for this game as well.

Destiny is an open world first person shooter set in a futuristic post apocalyptic world. Being developed by Bungie who has previously developed and worked on the Halo games. This game has been in development for many years. It is one of the most expensive games ever developed as well, even more so than Grand Thef Auto V's budget, being over 500 million spent on the game.

The game will be a first person shooter with some massively multiplayer online game (MMO) elements. It will use a shared world and will have players matched up for cooperative and competitive multiplayer and won't use serves.

The story is based in a post apocalyptic setting following a golden age of peace, technological advancement and exploration known as the "golden age". Humanity is brought to the brink of extinction. Mysteriously many colonized plants outside earth have gone under inexplicably. Humanity is saved by "The Traveler" who is a white spherical celestial body who has in the past enabled humans to travel throughout space. The Traveler now allows the "Guardians of the city" the last defenders of the human race, an ability called "The Light".

After trying to repopulate lost colonies humanity finds hostile alien races now occupy mankind's former colonies and the last remaining human city.

The story line follows the player investigating and destroying these alien threats before humankind is wiped out.

There are three classes as well as three races to choose from. The races are purely cosmetic and don't affect how the game is played at all. The classes however will affect how you play the game quite a bit. Humans, Awoken and Exo are the three playable races. Awoken are an exotic race based off of Elves, vampires ghosts and angels. Exo are sinister and powerful and based off other Unead, Halo's Master Chief and The Terminator. Humans are tough, simple race with nothing particularly special about them.

Hunters, Warlocks and Titans are the three playable classes for Destiny. Hunters are the quintessential bounty hunters. Warlocks use a combination of weapons and special powers and are essentially a "space wizard", similar to the jedi knights or even wizard class. Titans are the typical future soldier class that uses heavy weapons and melee attacks.

Also accompanying the player is the robot AI named Ghosts who is voiced by Peter Dinklage. The game's music has been compsed with some help from Paul McCartney as well as Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori.

The game will debut on Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9, 2014.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is the third game in the Dragon Age series following Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II. The game is focusing on fusing gameplay elements of both Dragon Age and Dragon Age II. This game will be much more open and not as linear as past games. Choices made in the game will affect the outcome of the game.

The main player plays a new character/protagonist called the "Inquisitor". The story line follows the civil war between mages and templars similar to the past game. Choices made by the player will can affect which areas are accessible by either destroying them or capturing new areas.

The combat style is dependent on the player and is either a more slower, tactical rpg style similar to Dragon Age or the faster paced real time combat of Dragon Age II. This game will feature a lot more of the world of Dragon age and will be on the continent of Thedas.

You will be able to play multiple races of both sexes including human, dwarf, elf and Qunari. Destructibility of the environment is also a feature in the new game as well, which hasn't been featured beforehand.

The game will release on PC, Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on October 7, 2014.

EA sports UFC is the latest UFC game to be released, the first of which through Electronic Arts. After THQ went bankrupt, so did the UFC: Undisputed series of games. It is currently out now on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One and appears to be the largest MMA/UFC game so far.

The Fight Night team (EA Canada) became a part of the UFC team for this game and it appears they used some of the mechanics of that game. So far there are 97 UFC fighters including Royce Gracie and Bruce Lee as bonus unlock-able characters. DLC updates are planned to release more fighters in the future.

After playing the demo myself I am impressed with the game, it incorporates the striking, grappling, submissions and more and even has commentary from Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg. There are plans for a online championship as well with the multiplayer.

Halo 5 is the latest installment of the Halo series coming out in late 2015 exclusively to Xbox One. This is the second part of the "Reclaimer trilogy" which started with Halo 4. In conjunction with the release of the game is a television series being created by Steven Spielberg and supposedly going to launch on showtime.

Those that purchase Halo: The Master Chief Collection will get an exclusive access to Halo 5's multiplayer beta. The game is being developed by 343 Industries who has developed past Halo games.

Halo: The Master Collection is an upcoming remastering of Halo 1-4 on the Xbox One. While the graphics and cutscenes have been overhauled the gameplay will remain unchanged. Also you will be able to switch between the older graphics and newer graphics if you choose.

The game will feature mission set lists to enable players to pick and choose missions from all four Halo games as they choose. There will also be access to Halo: Nightfall a mini series leading up to Halo 5 being produced by Ridley Scott.

Access to Halo 5's multiplayer beta will also come with the game as well. The collection is going to be released for the Xbox One on November 11, 2014.

Hyrule Warriors is an upcoming spin-off of the Zelda series. It is a combination of both Zelda and the Dynasty Warriors series. Omega Force and Team Ninja were brought in to help with development with this game. The game is set in Hyrule with a link training to be a Hylian soldier. The princess Zelda is kidnapped and Link has to save her from Cia.

The game can have two players playing at once, one on the Wii U gamepad screen and one using a controller and the main screen. Elements from past Zelda games will appear such as the use of bombs, his sword and Link's signature spin attack. Princess Zelda, Midna, Lana and Agitha are going to be playable characters as well in Hyrule Warriors. Lana is an original character created for the game while Midna and Agitha were in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

The game will be a hack and slash game with Link or whoever you choose to play taking on multiple enemies on a battlefield. There will also be RPG elements incorporated as well such as discovering items, opening chests and upgrading items.

Hyrule Warriors will release on Wii U on September 26, 2014.

Kingdom Hearts is a popular ongoing game series with 7 entries so far. The latest game is the last of the "Xenahort saga/Dark Seeker" saga but not the last Kingdom Hearts game in the series. Picking up directly after Dream Drop Distance. The story will follow Sora, Donald and Goofy as they look for the seven guardians of light and the "key to return hearts".

King Mickey and Riku are searching for previous keyblade wielders in order to stop Master Xenahort. This game has been rumored for years and is finally in development. With a teaser trailer being released with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. The combat will be similar to Kingdom Hearts ii but with some additions from the handheld and mobile games of the series. The action will be fast paced like it has in the past with a three player party but with friendly NPCs jumping in to help out.

New and old Disney worlds will appear in the game as well as Final Fantasy characters as well. Since Disney has since acquired Pixar, Marvel Entertainment and Lucasfilm any of those characters might be present but it would have to fit into the story line fo the game.

This is the first Kingdom Hearts game to be released outside of the playstation system and is set to release on Playstation 4 and Xbox One sometime in 2015.

After the huge success of Last of Us at E3 Sony said that the game was to be released on Playstation 4, including the DLC Left Behind.

The game got wide acclaim among gamers, the gaming industry and gaming journalists. The game is based on an post -apocalyptic setting in which there is a mutated strain of the Cordyceps
fungus that affects humans and turns them into zombie like creatures.

Last of Us is an adventure survival horror game where you mainly play as the Joel one of the two protagonists of the game. You use stealth, improvised weapons, firearms and melee to survive against hostile humans and the zombie like creatures as well. The game features a crafting system which can be used to upgrade weapons throughout the game. Using pills and medicinal plants you can upgrade Joel's abilities, health and more as well.

There are also puzzles as well as conversation that take up parts of the game when there is no combat. Multiplayer is featured as well featuring two "Team deathmatch" like modes one without respawns. In multiplayer you can play as the Hunters or Fireflies and you have to survive "12 weeks" in the matches by defeating players, crafting items, gathering supplies and more.

The story revolves around Joel and Ellie, while you mainly play as Joel, Ellie's body may hold a cure and immunity to the fungal infection that creates the zombie creatures. It starts out present day with Joel living as a single father in Texas with his twelve year old daughter Sarah. The outbreak of mutant Cordyceps happens overnight affecting Joel's family in a number of ways.

In the 20 years since the outbreak humanity lives in nomadic groups, quarantined zones and independent settlements.

The remaster of Last of Us releases July 19, 2014 on Playstation 4.

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U is coming sometime in 2015 with a lot of new and exciting changes. For the latest Zelda game it will be less linear as well as more open world. They are also changing how they design puzzles for this game as well, instead having it more be about choices made throughout the game. There will also be different weapons uses that use ancient technology similar to what is used in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. The ancient technology will be used with weapons in this game and not just for certain items as shown in that game.

Players will have more choice about how to progress through the game and will be able to pick and choose which missions or quests to embark on. Old conventions such as using bow and arrow, horseback riding and other similar gadgets will show up as well.

There is no confirmed release date but it is expected to release sometime in 2015.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is an upcoming game set between the events of The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings. In Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, you play a ranger named Talion whose family has been killed by Sauron and his forces, and who is revived with "Wraith-like" abilities. The game is a hack and slash action role playing game combining elements of stealth action as well as hack and slash. From trailers I have seen it looks similar to the Assassin's Creed series but has much more to it gamplay wise.

In this game there is a "nemesis" system, which will have your enemies evolve and adapt based on your actions. You have two distinct skill sets, ranger and Wraith abilities. Ranger abilities can be leveled up and will allow you to move silently throughout the environment. Wraith abilities which you can level up as well will enable you to intimidate, control and simply impose your will on your enemies.

The player will encounter familiar characters in the Lord of The Rings franchise such as Gollum but the story is separate from both Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit but the game will intersect with those stories.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor comes out on PC, Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on October 7, 2014.

Mortal Kombat X is the latest entry in the long running Mortal Kombat series. The series will feature new fighters as well as old returning fighters as well. Some elements of Injustice: Gods Among Us have been implemented such as using an energy meter to do powerful X-Ray moves, with some refinements.

Each fighter will have three variations or styles, Scorpion for example will have a ninjutsu with dual swords, and a hellfire variation using fiery special moves. The plot will be non-linear and new, starting off from the end of the last Mortal Kombat and going twenty five years into the future. The story will have an emphasis on veterans, new characters and offspring of previous characters that have been in the game.

The new characters include D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage, and Kotal Kahn. D'Vorah is a new female fighter that controls insects, Ferra/Torr is pairing of a female dwarf and a giant brute. Cassie Cage is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade and Kotal Kahn is a "blood god" inspired by the ancient Aztecs. The main antagonist will a returning character from the past Mortal Kombat games.

The game is set to release on PC, Playstation 3, 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One sometime in 2015.

After being speculated and rumored for years there is going to be a complete remake of both Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. While staying mostly true to the original story and gameplay, it will be overhauled with new pokémon new evolutions as well. There will be "Mega Evolutions" which were introduced in Pokémon X and Y and there will be a new evolution called a Primal forms via Primal Reversion.

There will be new mega evolutions for pokémon not previously given mega evolutions and its alleged that ancient pokémon will be able to go into their primal form. So far only Groudon and Kyogre have been shown with their "primal forms", being a much bigger, powerful version with special abilities.

The games will release on November 21, 2014 on Nintendo 3DS.

Witcher 3 is the game that will conclude the story of the Witcher Geralt of Rivia. The witcher series is based on the fantasy series by Polish author Andrezej Sapkowski. The games take place after the events of the books that have so far been published.

Geralt of Rivia is one of the last of the witchers who are part monster, part wizard but very powerful all the same. Through training and genetic mutation they get heightened senses, recovery, abilities and physical transformations. In the case of Geralt his hair turns white and his eyes look like wolf eyes. With the use of potions he can enhance his abilities further. Taking too many potions can affect him negatively which shows up in the game in a number of ways, so it's a balancing act.

Having played the first one extensively and recently playing the second one, I love everything about this series. It is entirely unique and different from many roleplaying fantasy games. The story is similar to A Song of Ice and Fire and Lord of The Rings. While I haven't read the books, Geralt often takes a neutral stance in many conflicts throughout them and you can choose to do the same in the games or choose a side.

The first game starts out with an amnesiac being hunted and chased, Geralt who comes to stay at the castle he grew up in and trained in to become a witcher. The second one has him following and hunting down assassin's who possess abilities similar to witchers assassinating kings and leaders throughout the world.

The third game involves the "Wild Hunt", which is a supernatural army of beings that are going throughout the northern kingdoms and causing death and destruction along the way.

The gameplay is similar to that of the second witcher game with some refinements. Brewing potions and crafting items will remain in this game but with further tweaks to it.
