Best Wii U games to Buy for Christmas 2014 - What Nintendo Wii U games to buy for Young and Old?
What to Buy?
Clueless about what games to buy for yourself or a friend, kid, grandparent? See a list below of the best games for the Wii U to date and you should find something suitable.
1. Mario Kart 8
A game for young and old, friend and foe. Cartoon style car racing game with a face we all know and love. What can I say except for this game is fantastic. It alone may justify buying the whole console. You will like it no matter what age you are or what you are in to. It's perfect for families to play, for friends, couples, kids and elderly people. You can play it with motion controls tilting the steering wheel, or with buttons.
Up to 5 players can play at once.
2. Pikmin 3
In brief, You are Captain Olimar who has crash landed on a strange land. You controls many little creatures at a time who help you accomplish missions, mostly to fix your ship and escape the planet.
Pikmin 3 is a one player game suitable for all ages. It's the perfect gift for someone who loves a bit of strategy but doesn't want to be bogged down by the sloweness of it all or the dullness of most strategy games. This is colorful, bright and fun. Try it out or buy it as a gift. Either way, this game will be a successful buy.
3. Wii Fit U
A game, mostly for the older crowd but kids can also enjoy it. This, ladies and gentlemen, is more than just a training program! With the right accessories it becomes a lifestyle. Want to track your weight? How far you ran? Want to work out, but make it a game? Then this is for you. For more info check out the link below. This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to get in shape while having a laugh.
4. Rayman Legends
Wacky, crazy, fast fun. The story line is just a pile of funky cartoons while the gameplay and artistry are absolutely amazing. This is possibly the best 2-D side scroller game I have ever played. It's fun, suitable for all ages and kids are sure to love it while the multiplayer features make it fun for couples too. The game is also kept fresh by constant updates through online which compare your score to scores from around the world.
This is also up to 4 player local play.
5. Assassins Creed III & IV
Both of these games are fantastic and either one is a worthy addition to someones Wii U library. They are NOT, however, suitable for young children and this may be one (or two) to buy for the husband or wife to play when the kids are tucked in bed, or maybe a teenager or adult kid of yours. The 3rd in the series is set in 18th-century Boston, follows an interesting storyline set around the events of The American Revolution. The 4th in the series is set around the life of a pirate during the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean.
Action, Missions, Fighting, Sailing and explosions a plenty.
6. Call of Duty: Ghosts & Call of Duty Black Ops II
Firstly, this is a shooting game, so not suitable for kiddos. Secondly, this short review is not for hardcore COD fans. Personally, I feel like both or either of the above games would be a great gift. The highlight of the game is multiplayer online or offline. The Wii U allows one player to play on the gamepad and the other on the TV which is unique among all consoles. Both of these games are the cream of the crop when it comes to shooting games and cover everything from zombies to sniping. Countless guns to choose from, and endless hours of explosions and mashing enemies. It is what it is. Just don't buy it for a kid.
7. Super Mario/Luigi U OR Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
You can buy Super Mario/Luigi U and/or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, but one thing is for sure, you would really enjoy either of them, and so will the recipient of your gift. These games are suitable for all ages, and are updates of the retro games of the same names. Side scrolling, 2D, quick paced, multiplayer and lots of fun. Not to mention the unbelievable quality of the art work in High definition. If you know someone is a fan of Mario, then this is a sure bet. The same goes for Donkey Kong.
8. The Legends of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
This game is one of the greatest and well respected games of all time. It's a remake of the gamecube game and has a HUGE following. I really haven't met someone who hasn't enjoy it immensely. This includes my boss, people of all ages, all genders and all walks of life.
This game defines the word "Adventure".
9. Super Mario 3D World
A very different experience to the other Mario game above, this is a 3D game with a completely different feel. This game is attractive, fun and fresh. If you are buying for someone who has the older 2D Mario games and wants something new, then this is a sure bet. It was released to critical acclaim and is another game that is liked by all ages, especially for it's wacky multiplayer modes.
10. ZombiU
ZombiU is more than just a Zombie game (you may have guessed that this is an adult game). It is a game where there are moments that make you nearly wet your pants (not for grandma either then). A lot of the best parts of the game involve the use of the gamepad screen being faced away from the TV and pointed at, for example a door, which you have to pick the lock to open while a zombie (on the TV) is powering his way toward you from the side.
Multiplayer is also fun, where one person hold the game pad and sees you from an elevated angle while you play on the TV. They click on the gamepad screen where they want zombie to appear to try to eat you. Nice? Right?!? See the video below for more details and how it looks from start up through to playing.
