Fixing DDO download problems

Updated on May 19, 2010

This is about an online game. Here are answers to common issues you might have while downloading DDO:

Consuming too much bandwidth. Sadly, this is one of the reasons I miss the Turbine Launcher. You can set it to not use peer to peer sharing at all. Unfortunately, you don't seem to have that option with the Panda Media Booster. This program will soak up all of your available internet transfer capability if you let it. Turbine will not refund any overage fees your ISP might charge if you run into problems. Many people immediately uninstall it the moment their game is done. Does anyone know if there's a way to download DDO without panda media booster currently? Please respond in the guestbook area if so.

You attempt to leave Korthos only to get a "Content is still downloading. Please wait." error. There are two common solutions with this. You may have ran into a bug with True Reincarnation. Have a friend or gamemaster (You can open a ticket on the DDO options menu, select help) teleport you out of Korthos island. You may also not have completed the entire game download yet. Some versions of the install program let you play through the tutorial and create characters before it's done transfering files. DDO is a rather big download, almost 5 gigabytes, so patience might help with your problem.

The launcher keeps trying to re-download the game every time you start the program. This one is a nasty bug with one of the old install programs. The "Turbine Launcher" might attempt to download the game again if it thinks any of your data is corrupted. Common causes are shutting down the computer without exiting the DDO game. There is a simple fix for this download problem. You can uninstall the Turbine Launcher. I'm not sure if this also works with the Lammania client. Start DDO as normal and you'll still be able to play without this extra program.

Having other issues? You can either try to post to a comment here and see if anyone has advice, visit the support forums or try to re-download the online game.

for those of you that are having problems running ddo on windows vista and above, go into the properties of the icon then open target. look for the game's .exe then go into its properties and set the compatibility mode to windows xp. you should now be able to run ddo without crashing to black screen.
