DOTA Hero Tips: Legion Commander

Updated on June 21, 2012

Legion Commander has one of the most risky ultimate skills in the game. It adds tend permanent damage to whoever won the duel. It’s quite dangerous since you can end up strengthening the opponent if used carelessly. Nevertheless, by simply looking at Legion Commander’s set of skills, one can easily tell that this hero is built to kill. His first skill is an AOE skill that does not only deal a considerable amount of damage but buffs Legion Commander with bonus movement speed. His third skill grants any ally target with ridiculous health regeneration at a brief period of time. Finally, Legion Commander’s second skill is his edge during a duel. Once attacked, there is a high chance that his hit will cause a lifesteal effect. His skills work well with each other so upgrading them all is imperative. Despite the fact that Legion Commander boasts strong skills, decent base damage, high hit points and armor, we should never forget that DOTA is not won by simply using the best heroes. Even the mightiest heroes can be easily killed through team work and following an effective gameplay. To help you on this matter, here are some important tips that you should follow while using Legion Commander in every stage of the game.

Early Game

One good feature of Legion Commander is his ability to easily survive harassment by simply spamming his third skill. All you need are items that increase your mana points and boost mana regeneration. A couple of Clarity Potions is imperative. You can also purchase a Sobi Mask and upgrade it into Urns of Shadow later on. If you are paired with a carry, help him survive with your third skill while keeping enemies at bay by spamming your first skill. Nonetheless, don’t be so aggressive before reaching level six. It will be hard for Legion Commander to grab a kill without his ultimate skill.

Mid Game

By now, you should purchase items that can boost your physical attack. You should join ganks and kill as many heroes possible. Remember that every successful kill while your ultimate skill is casted will grant you bonus damage. You may not greatly feel its effect abruptly but eventually the bonus damage will stack and make you a killing machine during the later part of the game. It’s also wise to purchase defensive items such as Vanguard and Assault Cuirass. You already have great damage boost with your ultimate skill so what you really need is items that can help you survive and win every duel.

Late Game

This is the part of the game where Legion Commander is almost unstoppable. This is true especially if you managed to grab a couple of kills during the early and mid parts of the game. With the bonus damage you gained, eliminating intelligence and agility type heroes is a breeze. Intelligence type heroes in particular are easy targets for Legion Commander as they’ll be silenced during the duel. During team clashes, your role is to cast your ultimate skill on any of the enemy team’s intelligence type hero. As much as possible, choose one that has insane spell damage. Killing him will surely turn the tides of the battle in favor of your team.
