Does it work? Tales of the Ouija Board

Updated on January 11, 2012
Is this toy really a gateway to evil?
Is this toy really a gateway to evil?

Is anybody out there?

The Ouija Board is an interesting object. Many a person has found themselves infatuated with this Parker Brothers talking board. While it has been regarded as a harmless parlor toy, others have talked about demonic possessions they have experienced. Now I am by no means saying this toy works… nor do I believe it doesn’t work. Through my experiences, I have seen things and other times, I believe it is someone who is just moving the cursor. It is a game after all, and maybe the trickster isn’t the person you contacted, just the person sitting across the table from you.

In the past, I have been fascinated by this board and have used it a few times for fun and recreation. Heck, I even played the Ouija Board with my Grandma, who giggled the whole time because she thought my Grandpa, who had passed away several years earlier, had contacted her. The board was acting funny and playing what we thought were tricks, resembling my trickster of a grandpa.

When we first got our Ouija Board it was because we believed our house was haunted by a young girl named Julia. My younger sister spent many hours in a closet talking to what we believed was an imaginary friend. After a few weird incidences, none of which I actually experienced, we always said the weirdness in our house was because Julia was playing games. Often times, we would play on the Ouija Board to talk to Julia. Never once did we find out how she died or where she was from or even who she really was. Of, course, we also never took any of this seriously.

Up until one point in particular, I always considered the Ouija Board to be just a game. I actually thought the reason it moved was because if you thought hard enough about the answer, your mind could actually move it. In fact, several times, I could actually predict the answer without even having my fingers touching the cursor. I just thought real hard what I thought the answer should be and then it would be correct.

One night, my opinion changed. My aunt was in the hospital on her deathbed. We had gotten the call earlier in the day that it was time for us to say goodbye. I was bummed out because even though I was really close to my aunt, (she had babysat me most of my young life), I couldn’t go to the hospital because I had to stay home and watch my little sisters. My parents didn’t believe it was appropriate to bring them to the hospital so I didn’t get to say goodbye. Instead, I got to have a friend over to help me babysit while my parents and older sister got to go to the hospital and wait for my aunt to pass.

While my sisters were upstairs playing quietly to themselves, my friend and I decided to pull out the Ouija Board and play for awhile. We turned on the radio and popped in an Enya CD. We turned down the lights and lit a few candles. The mood was set. We were sitting at the table in the dining room ready to start.

We got the board moving and answering questions. Typical stuff that teenagers want to know… like “What is the name of the man I am going to marry?”, “What am I going to be when I grow up?” and “Does that boy in Science class have a crush on me?” Important stuff. We continued to ask the questions and get answers.

Is it really just a toy? Use at your own risk!

Something weird is about to happen...

Suddenly, the board started acting weird. While our fingers were still on, it continued to spin in circles faster and faster, almost so fast our hands were whipping off to the side. Being teenagers, we ignored this and continued anyway. All of a sudden, the cursor went to 7. It stopped. We put the cursor back to the middle of the board, thinking it was broken. As our fingers grazed it again, it went back to 7. We looked at each other weirdly and I said, “What is the number 7 supposed to mean?” Suddenly, the music turned off.

I looked at the CD player, which has been giving us issues for awhile, and shrugged it off to just another scratched disc and problems with the player. We sat in silence continuing with the board, which kept going to the number 7. Out of nowhere, the music came back on. It blared loudly and we both turned to look into the living room. The CD player had fast forwarded itself to track number 7. With our hands still on the cursor, the board spelt out Ha Ha. A chill ran threw my entire body.

The chill left my fingers tingly and my body numb, but we continued on with the Ouija Board, not thinking this board was anything evil… after all, it was just a toy! We continued to ask the board questions and get the answers. We were trying to think of another question, both of us sitting in silence with our fingers still lightly placed on the cursor, when it started to move. First to the R… than an I… N… G… than back to R…. I…. N…. G. It had spelled out Ring Ring. What was that supposed to mean! It then said… Answer the Phone. We laughed it off. Obviously, the phone was still sitting on the receiver, quit as it was all afternoon. The board spelt out Ring Ring a second time and before either of us could say anything, the phone on the wall rang. We both jumped at the sound.

I got up and ran to the phone. I was pretty sure this was the phone call I had been dreading all night. It was my dad on the other end. My aunt had finally passed away. After struggling with cancer for several years, the disease had finally taken her. The board had known seconds before the phone rang that the call was coming.

My aunt’s death tore me apart. I always regret that I wasn’t able to go to the hospital and say my goodbyes. In away, I feel like I did get a goodbye. Before I even got the call, the board warned me. Maybe that was my Aunts way of saying goodbye to me. This was the only time the board has ever worked for me.

Like I said earlier, I don’t believe this toy works, but at the same time I don’t believe it doesn’t work either. While this experience wasn’t necessarily a bad one filled with demonic possessions, I haven’t really gotten the board to do anything else since then. I am grateful that nothing bad has ever happened on one of our Ouija adventures, but I am still skeptical that these toys are the gateway to something unknown. Now, if it was a homemade Ouija Board… that is a whole different world. You couldn’t pay me enough to touch one of those!

Have you ever experienced anything unusual on the Ouija Board?

@Nicole - I am so glad you found this. Your story absolutley gives me the chills. That is really creepy. Luckily for me, I have never encountered anything that really really scared me with the boards. I know other people have told stories of seeing black shadows after they have played with them. They are a tool - and I am not sure if they are a good one to be using.

Thanks for stopping by... I love the added story and I am sure others will too!

Hi I hope you still read and run this hub. Anyway I feel I need to share my story well I was told it from my auntee. I have always ben curious of these talking boards so I asked my aunt of any thing creepy happened when she played with them. The one that freaked me the most was this one.

So my Auntee was playing the board with her friend and my grandmas house, and my grandma hated it but of course played it anyway. So one answere she got is "i hate your mom, and she says why do you hate my mom and the entity named Gabriel spelled out "burn in hell 1978". So she asked please clarify, and it kept saying it. Spooked my Auntee ran to her mom which is my grandma and told her what it said, and my grandma froze then said I told you not to play with it, and grandma goes on saying the reason why is back in 1978 I was playing with one, I got scared and burned it, while she burned it she said burn in hell.

So it was kinda freaky, sorry if ki grammar is not correct. But I thought I should share. She had other ones but ill save

      Thanks for listining.

@catsimmons - What a creepy story. I have to admit, I am too much of a chicken to actually use a homemade board. I think those are passing beyond the game realm of the ouija board. However, either way, they both can be passageways into the unknown and it is good to know the risk. Thanks for sharing your story!

      Great subject for a hub!

I'd almost forgotten the experiences I had with my friends when we were teens.

We didn't even use a real board, it was just the back of a school notebook with letters of the alphabet written on it. We used an upturned pencil sharpener with the top taken off as the pointer.

The odd thing was that the pointer couldn't really be moved by pushing it from the outside, because it was too tall and the paper too rough...whenever we used it there was a strong feeling of it being moved from the inside.

We received lots of scary messages from entities with weird ancient sounding names that really didn't seem at all pleasant. My friend had an instance where the gnarled imprint of a hand appeared on a mirror and a noxious odour filled the room.

I stopped playing because it was too spooky, but one night a couple of my friends came rushing to my door and told me that I would die at 9.03pm that night...I was so scared, but grabbed my old Rubic's cube and sat concentrating on trying to solve it while the moments ticked by..Luckily nothing happened, but we certainly gave up after that.

I've heard it said that teenage girls are particularly responsive to psychic phenomena but I've no idea how true that is.

Like you said Barbergirl..use at your own risk!

@Lisa - I have never heard of rubbing salt on it, but from what it is said, a person can never truly get rid of a Ouija board. That being said, the most dangerous are the ones that are homemade. I have never had any issues getting rid of store bought ones. They can be creepy, but they can be entertaining if you take them seriously. I don't think you should suffer any repercussions as long as you shut the board down properly. As always, store boughten or homemade - Ouija boards should definitely be used at your own risk. Hope that helps you out a little bit.

I went to target one day actually LOOKING for a ouija board...i wanted one ever since i saw the gals use it in beverly hills 90210...

so about 15 years after that episode aired..i decided i was old enough to finally have one of my own..

so i played it with my friend after doing research...

i took it very seriously but my friend did not..

      so i started playing alone..

i played alone at home one day and i was just asking some questions...who are you? am i going to find love? who is it going to be etc...i asked it if i was going to be famous and it said no....

then started spelling out the number 67..and the initals JW..i still dont know that that means..

i asked it to clarify and it started going thru all the letters and numbers on the board...

i got creeped out so i told it goodbye and all the sudden i began to feel a tingly sensation all over and got dizzy and shook it off...then i saw something from the corner of my eye and i looked up and saw my microphone cord swing as if someone had brushed past it...

i continued to use the board..but i felt like nothing good was coming of it so i rubbed salt on it and never used it again....

my friend threw it in the dumpster...

      is that bad???

@AliciaC - thanks for stopping by and commenting. I am always up for some kind of weird topic to explore. This is one that I have always been fascinated about. Maybe it is because it truly can't be understood. It is good to keep an open mind with these topics!

This is a very interesting hub, and the comments are interesting too! I try to keep an open mind when dealing with things like Oiuja boards. I think that some people's experiences are probably caused by the unconscious action of their own brain, but on the other hand there are other experiences which are very strange and very hard to explain! There's certainly a lot about reality that we don't understand. This is a fascinating topic to explore!

Heck yes! LOL - I actually don't have a ouija board anymore. My husband won't let me get another one either. I do however have the psychic circle. I don't know if it has the potential for as many bad things, but I don't exactly play with it anymore. It is from my highschool years... lol

Wow - that is a super scary story. Thank you for sharing. I have never been bold enough to create my own. I usually just played with the store bought ones. I don't think they are bad, but from the stories I have been hearing... both are bad news.

Thanks for adding to the story.

My friend and I wanted to play with a ouiji board one night but we didn't have one so we made one ourselves. We sat in my room in a triangle of lit candles. We thought you were suppose to hover your fingers over the mobile piece and it would move, but it would just barely move and go really slow. Finally we started putting pressure on the moving piece and said, "We seek the consultation of the oracle in reference to your name." One of my friends had told me that's what you're suppose to say when you use a oiji board. The name that was spelled out was something that didn't make any since. A bunch of random letters. We asked if it was a good spirit and it went to NO. We asked it a lot of questions like how old was he when he died. 57. How he died. Murdered. Why he was an evil spirit. He killed his mother. We had everything written down on paper and the whole time we stared at each other to make sure it wasn't one of us moving it. After a while we actually got board. The next day I did it again with my sister because she wanted to see it for herself. this time it was a new spirit that was also evil. this spirit spelled out that it killed seven kids and we were next. My sister ran out of the room and I decided to never use the ouiji board again. Also a few nights later I had a very vivid dream that I was being held down by some force in my bed and my entire room was a bloody red color. Needless to say it frightened me because I wasn't sure if it was real or just a dream.

hehe... I really did think about doing that, cos he's already paranoid of stuff as it is! Mean ain't I? LOL! Nah, better just stick with the stale uneaten pizza that needs to go in the firepit! It is kinda strange that my dog came back in with the door closed, she normally never does that. I had to do a double take when I heard her toe tapping through the house then come into the livingroom! I probably would of pmp if she said "BOO" lol

That is some freaky stuff. Maybe it is because it smells like pizza that it keeps calling out to you. I would definitely gift it to your ex or something.

I would say I used to be a skeptic but have changed that way of thinking. Strange things happen at the house I grew up in too. I did research on it, and found it was the oldest house in the neighborhood (and strangely enough mine here is second oldest) and someone who lived there had died. In the olden days people died at home, not hospitals. (except my dad he died in his room, but we'd promised not to put him in a home) I stayed in it until the inheritance went through, but felt comfort not scared.

Now with this house, I hear noises that just CANNOT be explained away! I do get squirrels that jump from the trees to the house, but I can hear their little feet pitter patter across the house top. So I know them when I hear them, it's when I hear actual foot steps like a man with boots on walking in the room above my living room what is freaky, but when I go look, nothing!

I didn't get a chance to burn those pizza boxes (probably looks like that's all I live off of lol) but I'd placed a bag of garbage on it, that had some left over in it, nothing I normally put in there. I throw that out for the animal's. But the bag was torn open, and I moved it a bit and seen the board. It had just slid down some. BUT I pulled it out, and again, it looked like it just came new out of the box. I'm not sure if I want it burned in MY back yard, I'm thinking I should drop it off at my ex boyfriends house LOL (kidding) but it definitely has to go! (although I still have that urge to play with it, but that's exactly what my friend said... so is it the power of suggestion or REALLY trying to get me to play with it.) I've always been kinda a rebel lol so maybe it's that too.. I don't know, but strange things happen in this house even before I got the board! I mean like the broken glass thing. TWO people do not hear something as big as a window breaking, and go look to find NOTHING so much as touched! let alone not broken! I don't want to move though I really love this house. :)

@Katherella - that is a crazy story. I would definitely be searching for it to make sure it is gone. I actually don't have one. My husband wouldn't let me get one. We lived in a free freaky houses. We had a ghost who liked to smoke in the middle of the livingroom where we lived last. I wanted to use a Quija board but my husband said that is just asking for trouble. They can be bad. I never had anything too bad happen, but I think it does take a person playing with it under the right circumstances. After all, if there is stuff going on around you, you may not really notice it. Then after playing the Quija board it could get interrupted. It is almost as if you irritated it or something. I personally always thought it was more of a mind game. LOL Hope you find it!

@funmontrealgirl - I played with them a few times. It was always one of those sleepover things. We even did Bloody Mary a couple of times. I never made it through it so I don't know if it works. I always chickened out. I tell ya, I don't like being in a dark bathroom though, especially if I am looking at a mirror. I have a tendency to work myself up when things can get spooky. I guess I have a great imagination! LOL

Wow, how did I miss this! Well, the plastic part is called a planchette. Although if you don't have that part, any object, even paper cut in that shape will work. WILL WORK! You know those buff buff things you wash your face with (or some girls do anyway, I do lol) I seemed to have lost the planchette with mine but the board kept falling behind this old trunk I have, that came with the house. I brought it down from the attic. I'm not sure what it was used for, but since I have an old house and heard from the neighbor that the lady who lived here before the people who I bought it from, she practiced witchcraft upstairs in the room above my living room (I have two, but one is more of just a sitting room, nothing kinda bland, but it's the room I put the Ouija board on, and it kept falling behind, but the planchette just seemed to vanish. I'm sure it'll turn up.

I never thought I was one to believe in this, like others said "it's just a Parker bro. game a TOY"...

When I was a kid, my sister had one. She'd left it outside, ALL WINTER LONG. In Michigan snow can get kinda deep and it laid there ALL WINTER under the snow. in the spring my mom found it's edge sticking out and pulled it up out of the left over snow bank, and it looked as if it just came out of a brand new box! Not one water mark or swelling of cardboard or wood, absolutely perfect. Dad made us throw it away.

Then I found this one I have now (or think I did, I'm going to have to check, because my friend who kinda dabbles a bit told me to GET RID OF IT, AND DO NOT POKE A HOLE IN IT) She said "it will want you to KEEP PLAYING WITH IT I'M NOT KIDDING" and I could hear it in her voice, she was definitely NOT kidding! I said ok ok, whatever, the other part is missing I'll get rid of it. But I didn't that night.

5 years ago someone I know was horribly murdered in England, and his old band got together to make a 5 year tribute song for him. Well, with that being said, I was going on about my business, and trying to sell off some stuff I think I can get at least a few bucks for. I had some old "rock n' roll cards" but not many and NOT in the same box. So when I opened the baseball card box, a card came flipping out of it, and it was that of Mark Evans the drummer who was murdered! I'm not talking about that one card got accidentally placed in the wrong box, I kept ALL OF THAT BAND'S CARDS IN MY SCRAP BOOK as I knew the singer personally. There should have been NO rock cards at all in that box, but that card came flipping out like someone flicked it out on purpose. My friend who was over was like "you should listen to your friend and just get rid of that board, after all it's right by the boxes".. Nah, that's silly, she's just being silly about the whole thing.

Well, I slipped his card into a plastic holder so it wouldn't get bent, and I placed it at the top of the place where it says "Ouija" and I placed my buff buff sponge in the center and straight up to Marks card. I then said "Mark o' Mark.. we miss you, let us know if you hear us" and then nothing happened. Well, my friend leaned back in the other recliner, and I leaned back in mine. NOTHING TOUCHING THE TABLE, the dog even slept through the movie. After the movie was over, I looked at it, and the card, in his hard/heavier plastic, was tilted sideways, and the buff buff was pointing sideways too. I got goosebumps! Now I KNOW FOR A FACT neither one of us touched it because it was in plain view of both of us, and I would have seen if he moved it, plus he hates it and wanted it gone too. Anyway, so I just put the card away and my buff buff (that I can no longer find, and had to get a new one.)

Well, then I get an email from my friend in England where he's from, and she said "please don't think me mad, but strange things are happening around here, and she named them off, and said I'm not crazy things still happened. Her son was standing in the kitchen and a coin fell out of his shirt onto the floor. She said they were talking about him as they were friends all his life, before it happened, and it freaked him out so bad he grabbed the dog and went to bed.

Ok, so I call my friend the next day and am telling her about it. She said, PROMISE ME YOU'LL GET RID OF IT, BURN IT IN THE FIREPIT, PROMISE???" So I said how about if I just toss it out on the front door because I don't want to go out back in the dark, I live in a rural area, and really don't want out back, she said ok. So while we were on the phone I threw it underhanded out the door. I have bad shoulders so there was no flying it like a frisbee lol. But it went through the air, didn't wobble and was like it was on a string or something went almost all the way to the road, and circled around and landed back in the yard (between two trees.) The next morning a big truck came to get the heat tanks, and it ran over the board! I would expect a truck of that size would at least damage it, but curiosity got the best of me, and I went out to get it (btw, did I mention that it also rained?) and it was, just like the one we had as a kids. FLAWLESS. Not a scratch or dirty place on it.

I brought it back in. When my friend came over he said "I thought you said you got rid of it" I said well, I did, but why let some kid take it home and say they found it here, this is a very small town and I don't want anybody giving me more stories about this house.

So I took it and put it in the burn box on the back porch. I was out there just today as I have a litter of ferals out there, and went to put food for the mama cat, because I do feed them until they head on their way out. They're wild, and cannot be tamed or domesticated. So I let nature take it's course (after all that is one reason I moved away from Detroit was to get away from the crazyness right) so, today I was moving the boxes to leave an open pizza box for the cat to have extra food, and I DO NOT REMEMBER SEEING IT at all, and I have not yet emptied the burn box. Living where I do, I always burn paper things rather than generating more garbage. Plus a good fire looks cool! lol.

Now that I see this I am really curious if it's still out there.

I did some research online about them, and saw some pretty real and freaky stuff on youtube, but whose to say they aren't rigged, but the girl holding the camera flung the camera down and people don't just do that if they're not genuinely afraid. But I read, just what my friend told me, she said putting a hole in it let's a gateway for demons that are NOT PASSED ON, but still roam the earth, you cannot bring back dead friends or relatives. That if you believe in God -any god- She's Arabic and is agnostic, if there is a God I believe in him if there isn't then it's still NOT A TOY.

So I think if it's gone out of that box tomorrow when I go look, then I'll be spooked and start looking around for it. but I do swear that night when Marks photo jumped out of that box, all the other cards were as if none were moved or parted, and no others were rock cards, they were all sports cards, all of them. So maybe something might have been saying 'don't mess with this' by tiling the card and the fake planchette. But I admit I do still have that want to play with it just like she said. I'll let ya know if I do or not and the outcome, but if she finds out.. oh boy! She's young enough to be my daughter, but is wise beyond her years because she is always reading up on something somewhere while at work rather than doing anything else. We clicked the first night we met like we'd known each other forever. Ah, but as luck would have it, it was while my dad was still alive so I went up there twice a year and haven't went back since last year, soon as she gets her new apartment, then I'm going up to stay a few months with her, not sure if I'll tell her about it because she'll yell at me lol. Do they work, I don't know, but they are definitely spooky!

I played with it often when i was in my early teens. as is normal there were sceptics and there were believers in my immediate circle myself enjoyed the attention it was getting me till I once for all wanted to settle the issue of whether it was actually something or it was just us subconsciously pushing the hollow plastic piece we kept in the centre.

i had a room well set back away from the house and three of us got together to cross the final frontier of disbelief. We decided that if it was out mind sending off some kind of energy into the piece at the centre then we would test the limits of it. We got ourselves a small cup, a glass, a biggish cooking utensil (about 10 inches in dia and 8 inches deep) and a bucket.

We started with the plastic lid of a bottle as the centre piece invited the spirit and asked the usual questions, we then out the cup on the board and asked the spirit to move into the cup as we transferred the fingers to it. Just as we transferred the fingers the cup began to move over the board and we started getting answers like before. We still thought it was juts our subconscious energy getting transferred because by now all three of us had made sure our fingers were very lightly placed on the cup. We decided to take it one level upwards and asked the spirit to transfer to the glass and voila the glass started moving all over the board. By now we were all slightly scared and we had been told that being scared of the spirit was probably the first sign of letting the spirit enter our body or dominate us, but it was now or never- we would never again come close to establishing whether there were such things as spirits and energies in the world of these kinds.

And SO we decided to transfer the spirit to the cooking utensil. By now we realised that the board did not have sufficient space to do so and thought maybe the floor of the room was a better place to make the utensil move and actually lifted the utensil and placed it on the floor. We asked the spirit to move the utensil if it was real and there- the utensil started moving all over the floor of the room. By now we were unable to keep pace with the movement and had to keep shifting all over the room to keep up with the utensil and THEN one of us made the switch to the bucket.

The fingers shifted to the bucket and the adventure really turned into a nightmare. We realised we had totally lost control over the bucket. It now had a life of its own and was moving all over the room. All we could do was keep our fingers on it and keep following it all around. By now were terrified and somehow wanted it to end and knowing fully well that lifting the fingers while the spirit was still in it and began beseeching it to go back whence it came from but the spirit just would not listen. The bucket had a life which was outside anything we had known and it began to spin around the room at a pace which we found impossible to match. We were by now sweating and in a state of total panic and somehow dying to get out of the situation and begging the spirit to leave as the speed with which the bucket went all over the room increased. I know what the fear of death must be like from that day because the bucket had us running all over the room with our fingers on it cause we knew that if we let the fingers off before the spirit left we would probably die.

This is when we started apologising to the spirit for having dared to question its existence and begging it to leave us alone and promising it we would never play with spirits again.

After about three or four minutes of wild spinning round the room all of a sudden the bucket st0pped moving and as we lifted our fingers from it , it became an ordinary bucket again.

I have never since then either questioned the existence of spirits nor tried anything like playing with occult ever again.

I do not know if I believe in them and there is a slight feeling that maybe it was our concentrated brain waves that were causing this to happen- but the fact remains I have never dared to experiment again.

Always told Ouija boards are dangerous and can bring in spirits you dont need around you. I prefer to rs work with ancestors and understand the spirit energy around me. I love working with dolphin energy.

Growing up my mother played with the ouija board all of the time. I used to play with it when I was a kid and I've seen it spell out words on its own and fly up in the air. I started doing research on it as a teenager and realized it was not a toy. I hate that this thing is marketed as a game. It's a dangerous way to attract unwanted spirits into your home. If you have one, get rid of it. Anyone who has been using an ouija board and has a feeling that there is some kind of unwanted presence in their home should perform a cleansing of their house. It may seem like I'm taking this too seriously but I'd rather be on the safe side, especially after what I've seen.

Wow! Great story glad I'm sitting here first thing in the morning drinking coffee lol

Your style of writing is very interesting concerning the Ouija as I personally know some folk having similar experiences with such a tool of the occult so it begs the question, would you get one of leave it alone?

All I can say is once one makes all the arrangements for a Ouija board play night expect many of your friends to come over for the experience as the unknown is a mystical situation that causes so much inquisitiveness you are either interested, or scared lol.

Well written piece & thank you for sharing.

      Regards Dale

RNMSN - I think I would have left the board in the attic too if it would have had doors slamming. The ouija board is something that has always intrigued me... okay, I just had a door slam in my house - maybe I shouldn't be talking about it... that was creepy.

Thanks for all the great comments - and thanks for all the support! I really do appreciate it!

despite my grandmother Bardens sage advice of

"dont open any door you cannot close"

my sister and I did get a board and did play with it...exactly our brand new house in Altadena Valley

the door to the playroom downstairs slammed shut and the lights went off and came back on...

that thing is probably still in the attic at moms house and there may it stay!!

great hub voted way up and congrats on the hubnugget nomination!!

I've never played the game myself, however I've heard many similar eerie unexplained stories as the one you've given. Congrats, on being selected as one of this week's HubNugget Wannabe Nominees. Good luck to you! :)

I remember it moving on its own power, and I remember it spinning wildly around in a tight circle so fast we couldn't keep our fingers on it. We got scared and put it away. It was stored in a box under my bed for the longest time, and then one day after I read something about how evil it was, I threw it away in a panic!

In college my girlfriends mother so loved my ouija board that I gave it to her. She believed in the answers she asked it. We just messed around with it. Nothing great or scary ever became of my interactions with it. But I do remember it moving on its own power or so it seemed. Great hub. Congrats., too.

I enjoyed reading your story, as I too played with Ouija board when I was a teenager and in my 20's. I can't say I was "successful" with real information coming through, opened me up to seeing spirits materialize, and having psychic information that came true. I wrote a hub about my experiences about two years ago. Welcome to hubpages, its great to have another talented writer join. I voted for you!

I played with a ouija board when I was a teen and remember being spooked. Seemed like it was moving itself to me. Congrats on the nomination and good luck - maybe you can ask the ouija board if you are going to win hehehehe!

Wow Patty - that's a little intense - I don't think I would come near the board anymore either if it flung something at me. Thanks for sharing!

The first time I ever saw a board, I was 19 in the employee lounge. Two women were using the board and as I walked in, the movable piece slid off the board out from under all the fingers and behind one of the women by three feet. They looked at me and asked me to leave the room and re-enter. They set up, placed fingers on the plastic piece, I walked in and the piece came out of the 4 hands, into the air momentarily 6" above the board and flew behind one of the women several feet.

They turned to me and said, "You have to stay out of the room."

I thought it was all a joke. In the hall, I waited until they retrieved the plastic piece to the board and were not touching it in any way. I stuck my head into the room, said the thing and the devil has no power (I don't know why I said it - the words spoke themselves), and the plastic piece rose up and whizzed by my ear and into the wall behind my head. They put the game away and I never saw it at work again.

When I was growing up I was fascinated with the Ouija Board. We had some really great scary times with it. Great hub.
