Dragon Age Origins Walkthrough: Creating your Character

Updated on August 7, 2017

What Is Dragon Age Origins?

Dragon Age Origins is an RPG by BioWare that was released in 2009. It has multiple storylines to play through giving players many more hours of gaming than some of the other games on the market. This is due to the many choices you are given before you even start playing the game and also the many decisions you can make within the game itself.

Character Creation

There are many options to choose from at the start of the game. Your choices here influence not only who you are but also what you do at the start of the game.

Gender
Race
Class
Male
Human
Warrior
Female
Elf
Mage

Dwarf
Rogue

Once you have chosen one of each of these above options you get to the characters background. Now you choices influence this and it is only with certain choices that you will get more that one choice at this point.

If you choose Male or Female Human Warrior or Rogue then you will automatically be a Human Noble.

If you choose Male or Female Elf Warrior or Rogue then you get a choice of Dalish Elf or City Elf.

If you choose Male or Female Human or Elf Mage then you will be a Magi.

If you choose To be a Dwarf then you can choose between Warrior and Rogue both of which allow you to be either a Noble or Commoner.

Attributes

You will begin with a set number of attribute points per attribute and have five points to spend on the however you like.

The Attributes are:-

Strength

This attribute affects who good you are at hand to hand (melee) combat. It also determins what armor you can wear and which weapons you can carry.

Dexterity

This attribute affects your ability to dodge attacks and also how accurate your character is with a bow and arrow.

Willpower

This attribute affects how determined your character is to succeed.

Magic

Cunning

Constitution

Each Character option has different starting attribute points per attribute.

I like to start my character out with fairly even stats where I can.

As you can see choosing a Warrior Class Character will give you higher Strength, Dexterity and Constitution Stats.

Remember that your game play will be influenced by not only your choice of race and class but also by your choice of attributes.

Origin Stories

Human Noble

If you chose this option for your character then you will start in Castle Cousland where you are the Son/Daughter of Teyrn Bryce Cousland.

In this first section of the game your father will give you the task of finding your brother. You will also meet Arl Howe and Duncan The Grey Warden. Speak to all three of these characters at length to gain as much information as you can before moving onto the task of finding your brother.

Dalish Elf

Upon choosing this option you will start your game accompanied by another elf. You first bump into a group of humans who will tell you of some ruins they have come across.
