Intro

In this guide I will show some strategies that will help create the best team possible on FIFA 18's ultimate team. This will include choosing the right players, how to buy better players, building the right chemistry, and the different features of the game that if done correctly will give you an advantage when playing game against other teams. If you have any questions please reach out to me in the comments at the bottom.

In the beginning

In the beginning there is a good chance that you will not have a good team rating, and you will also most likely have bad chemistry. The start is going to be tough unless you are willing to spend money on purchasing FIFA points. If you are able to purchase FIFA points you may be able to start yourself with an advantage as you will be able to purchase packs of cards and have the chance of getting a decent team from the start. With that being said, if you are not going to purchase points, you will start with bronze and silver players.

Before you make your first player purchase on the auction house, think about what kind of team you want. When purchasing players you should look for players that will not only be better than the current player in that position, but should also improve chemistry. Improving chemistry means that the players surrounding a player need to match certain criteria including playing on the same team, being of the same nationality, or playing in the same league. Some options will help your chemistry more than others. Chemistry is important in the sense that with low chemistry your team will not communicate on the field effectively, and you may notice players not moving in sync as they move up the field.

Once you have figured out which team type that you will be going with to help build chemistry, now you should focus on which players you want to upgrade first. Goalies are important early on because they will be the main last resort you have to preventing the enemy from scoring. Having good defensive players can be equally important because if set up correctly they can typically prevent a situation where your opponent is facing your goalie. Strikers is also a very important position to upgrade quickly because you can have the best defensive setup in the game, but if your strikers are bad, you will never score a goal.

When I am upgrading my team, I will never focus on one set of position. I typically upgrade my goalie first. After upgrading my goalie I then move to buy 1 striker. After that I will typically purchase a CB (Center Back) followed by a CM/CAM. Once I have purchased these players I will then start focusing on the other players.

Taking your team to the next step

After you have a baseline team created, you can begin creating your ultimate team. This is going to take time, and effort so don't be stressed in the early stages. Getting money to buy players will come naturally over time as you play more games.

Luckily with the exception of the highest rated players, you can typically build a gold team that is half decent while spending roughly 400 coins per player. To get the elite players you will need to save up coins over time, and choose whichever players will benefit your team the best.

Depending on your play style should also state which type of players you should buy. if you have been playing FIFA for years, and have developed your ball handling skills taking players who have better ball handling attributes may be a safer bet than players that focus on speed. On the other hand if you are a newer player and is using the play style of lead passes having fast players will benefit you in the sense that you will will need that extra speed to get downfield away from your opponent.

Once again to bring it up again is do not forget about chemistry. A 4 star team with perfect chemistry can easily beat a 5 star team with 50% chemistry. Chemistry has always been a very important factor when you are playing FIFA ultimate team.

Card packs can be important as well. Personally I prefer to wait for the specialty packs to be released before purchasing. Typically FIFA will release all player packs, jumbo packs, and specialty packs to help you build your team. Purchasing these adds better chances that you will receive a legendary player or player of the week. Whether you are going to use FIFA points or coins to purchase packs, I suggest waiting until specialty packs come out to cut down on the chance of getting wasteful cards.

Player training cards can also be beneficial to using on your team. There are cards that will benefit 1 attribute on a player or all attributes. Using one of these to increase pace on a player can significantly increase his speed for one game. While I wouldn't suggest using these every game, if you are at a game where you need to win, this can significantly help your chances.

Fitness is another important aspect to keep an eye on. Fitness is essentially how tired your players are. You should always try to keep this as high as you can. You can also purchase entire team fitness cards to assist as well.

Summary

Overall FIFA 18's Ultimate Team is a challenging yet fun game mode on FIFA 18. While it will take a lot of time to build the perfect team without spending a ton of cash, over time you will find that you can build your perfect team. Remember to focus on chemistry, and building the team that you want.
