Game of War Fire Age - Advanced Food Management

Updated on June 25, 2015

Game of War Food Production

So you have built up your army enough that you now see the food icon blinking. The blinking icon means you are using more food than you produce.

Do not fear, your troops will not have any ill effect when your food hits zero. Zero food has no effect on troops. In fact, many higher level players will have zero food at all times except when they are training troops, researching or upgrading buildings, and they will only acquire enough to complete the task.

Managing Food for a Large Army in Game of War - Fire Age

Okay—you have your stronghold between 18 and 21 and now want to amass a large army of tier three troops. You have the speed-ups saved and start mass training. Soon, you will see your food icon start to blink red. You have now hit the food wall and need to determine how you will create that multi-million army and still be able to acquire food when needed.

At advanced levels in Game of War Fire Age, there are three general methods for food management.

Zero Food—My Troops Can Fend for Themselves

One group will have zero food until needed for research, upgrades, or troop training. This type of player will either have an account that can create food or will concentrate gathering on food tiles. To sustain this method, you will also need an alternate account or another player in your alliance to hold food for you until needed.

Hyper Food Production—Because I Can Make Mad Amounts of Food

With good research, the right gear, and specialized hero skill points, it is possible to get over 1500% food production increase. One level 21 farm will produce 20,500 per hour so with boosts you can expect a level 21 farm to produce 350,000+ food an hour. Hyper Food players will have a lot of farms (I have 22) and can create 7-8 Million food per hour. While this is a lot, it is only enough for just over 2 million tier 3 troops.

Upkeep Reduction—A Penny Saved is MORE Than a Penny Earned

At higher levels, upkeep reduction plays a much larger part in managing your food upkeep. Upkeep reduction reduces the amount of food your troops need and does a very good job in allowing you to build a massive army. Consider an army of two million tier 3 troops with an hourly upkeep of six million food. At 50% upkeep reduction, you can keep the same two million troops with an upkeep of two million. Upkeep reduction is significantly better than any boost but you may find at later levels you will need to manage both production and upkeep.

All are viable options, but be sure to pick one that works for you. You don't want to go the zero food route if you have no alternate source besides tiles, you will find yourself begging for food in alliance chat everyday!

Gearing Up Your Game of War Hero

Resource production and upkeep reduction can both be boosted with items you craft for your hero. There are many choices for food production. However, for upkeep reduction, I am only aware of two gear choices.

At Hero Level 40, you can craft Nike's Wrath Helm. You will need some special event items (wax, mother of pearl, and two claws) to craft it plus 30 million silver. The upkeep reduction benefits are:

  • Tier 1 - 9.6%
  • Tier 2 - 24%
  • Tier 3 - 28.8%
  • Tier 4 - 33.6%
  • Tier 5 - 38.4%
  • Tier 6 - 48%

Pair this with a 24-hour upkeep reduction buff and with a tier 6 you, can get your original upkeep down 98%. That means being able to keep 100 million an hour in upkeep troops with only a two million per hour income!

At Hero Level 50, another helm becomes available with upkeep reduction, The Flame Crested Warhelm. This helm requires anniversary items (Anniversary Flame, Crystal Egg, Spring Water and a Leaf) plus 30 million silver to craft. The upkeep reduction benefits are:

  • Tier 1 - 12%
  • Tier 2 - 30%
  • Tier 3 - 36%
  • Tier 4 - 42%
  • Tier 5 - 48%
  • Tier 6 - 60%

Food has many items that can be used to buff production, but the best is in the accessory slot.

Icarus Wings provide massive buffs to food and come with a ranged attack and troop health bonuses. Production stats for Icarus Wings are:

  • Tier 1 - 40%
  • Tier 2 - 80%
  • Tier 3 - 120%
  • Tier 4 - 160%
  • Tier 5 - 200%
  • Tier 6 - 250%

With three Icarus Wings and your hero specialized in food, you can approach and exceed 2000% food production increase.
