Games Like Torchlight - Fun Action RPGs
I love the Torchlight series and I'm always looking for great games like Torchlight. I've included my favourite action role playing games on this page for others to enjoy.
I originally got into the series with the first instalment and absolutely loved the features that Torchlight 2 added. While I've always been a fan of the Diablo series I really liked the causal atmosphere that Torchlight brought to the action role playing genre and even enjoyed Torchlight 2 more than Diablo 3 on release (like many other players).
I believe that the genre is fairly split between dark atmosphere games (like Diablo) and more casual light-hearted games like Torchlight. And I generally find myself learning more towards the casual side of games these days as I don't have the time to commit to the more hardcore experiences out there.
I hope that you find that games here a great experience, please don't hesitate to drop me a comment at the end of the game and vote for the poll below.
Which Torchlight Game Did You Prefer?
Your Favourite Torchlight Game?
Everybody loves free games so I just had to include a free and online game like Torchlight. Currently I think the best game in that space is Drakensang Online, a game that blends the likes of Torchlight and Diablo into a browser (how awesome).
For a free game I was instantly blown away by the quality that the game had to offer and I just know that you will as well. The game starts kind of slow but quickly ramps up in action and difficulty that you'll have enough challenge within no time and with millions of gamers also playing the game friends are never far behind.
You've got the isometric perspective, quests, classes, guilds and much more. It's got all the elements to make it the best in the free online games like Torchlight space and if you give it a minute of your time you'll instantly fall in love with me.
If the term "pay-to-win" might be crossing your mind by now I can definitely confirm that the game has none of these elements so players on tight budgets such as myself can get as much fun out of the game as paying customers.
The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot
The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot is another free option for those Torchlight fans seeking an exciting new action role playing game with plenty of community and multiplayer components.
The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot gives you three classes for this adventure that any fan of action role playing games like Torchlight will recognise instantly (knight, archer and wizard). Each has good skill and item variety that they feel unique enough from each other even if they are fairly standard archetype roles.
The classes aren't the only simple thing though with really simple graphics and monster designs. Simplicity isn't a bad thing in The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot as it's definitely the focus here and it makes for something accessible that still holds a lot of fun for any fan of action role playing games.
Cast A Vote For Fate
If you loved Torchlight then I can't not recommend Fate enough if you are hunting for games like Torchlight.
Fate was originally released in 2005 and has had three expansions since then to build even further on the experience. If you're considering checking out what Fate has to offer then I definitely recommend grabbing them all at once since it will probably work out cheaper in the long run.
If you're familiar with the Torchlight series getting into Fate will be extremely easy and it's easy to see that Torchlight did grab some inspiration from the Fate mechanics. Most notable of these are the pet and fishing mechanics of which Fate was one of the very first to introduce.
Beyond those features Fate is basically your standard action RPG as you crawl your way through a dungeon with quests, monsters and randomised loot. Every element has plenty of depth to it so you do feel like you have great control over how you approach the game with your character.
In terms of games like Torchlight this one is number one without a doubt in my books.
Bastion is another one of the games like Torchlight that caught my eye really quickly in part due to it's very unique style of gameplay and flow. It's particularly a good option if you would rather play on a console (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) as opposed to your computer.
In your Bastion adventure you'll be playing as the Kid as you explore an odd floating world with even more interesting enemies around every corner. Played in a traditional isometric view action role playing fans will easily slip right into the gameplay and controls.
The environments are the best part of the whole game and seamlessly swap between one beautiful location to the next. The game is more level based than other ARPGs with the challenge focusing on limiting your available items on each level that requires you to play safe.
In between thee level experiences you can return to your hub known as the "Bastion" where you can upgrade elements of this fragmented city to boost your power. Everything about Bastion just makes it one of those games that you have to play otherwise you're seriously missing out.
In terms of funny games like Torchlight Deathspank definitely takes the cake. If you are out for a humour filled adventure that is just downright strange well you can't argue with what Deathspank has to offer, you are truly in for a hilarious game. The series has three games under its belt and are all story connected so it's definitely a start from the beginning sort of franchise.
The type of humour won't be for everyone, so it's best to watch a few trailers to get an idea of the experience that is in store for you. Personally I really liked it and it created an adventure I really enjoyed. With Deathspank you aren't limited to PC either with options for console as well so console gamers aren't excluded from the party entirely.
Combat wise the game has more focus on combos than its action role playing game counterparts but I really liked this shift to focusing on combo attacks against enemies to provide an extra layer of strategy to the game. All the other features that make the genre are there and while it might not be higher on my list of games like Torchlight, don't let that throw you off I only put it lower because the humour isn't for everyone.
