Gears of War Judgment: OverRun Game Mode - Play as Locust and Cog!

Updated on March 14, 2013

Gears of War Judgment is a prequel to EPIC game's Gears of War trilogy. Even though the game's main story has ended, Judgment's campaign takes place directly after Emergence Day. The campaign will revolve around Baird's Kilo Squad when they were accused of treason.

OverRun will be a new multiplayer game mode where players can either play as members of the COG or the enemy Locust. EPIC games has said it's a bit of a mixture of horde and beast mode that was featured in Gears of War 3. One of the main differences, however, is that in OverRun you will be competing against players over Xbox Live. However, if a player quits, an AI bot will take its place. Let's just hope they are smarter than the bots of Gears of War 3. In Overun, the COG must defend the generator and the enemy Locust must try and destroy the generator.

In every match of OverRun in Gears of War 3 Judgment, players will get to play as the COG defenders and the Locust attackers. Whichever team can destroy the generator faster wins. The COG team is made up of specific classes with special abilities. There is the Engineer, Soldier, Medic, and Scout Class. The Locust team is made up of different types of enemy locust like Tickers, Maulers, Kantus, Corpser etc. Each different type of locust will also have their own special abilities.

Gears of War 3 Judgment OverRun COG Classes

The COG team must defend the generator from the Locust at all costs. Each different class will offer a special ability. The Engineer (Baird) can set down temporary sentry turrets to help defend the fortifications and defend against the enemy Locust. Engineers can also repair fortifications with the blow torch. They are essential because once a fortification is destroyed it's gone forever. Soldiers can set down ammo crates to give ammo to players in need. They also pack a lot of firepower. The Medics can heal team mates and revive players who go down with the stim-gas grenade. Lastly, the Scout class is a sniper that can go to high ground positions on the maps that no other player can get to. He can also throw tagging beacons that identifies enemies nearby to the team. When the locust are tagged they can be seen through walls and will also take extra damage.

Fortifications are very important to the COG in Gears of War judgment Overun. Once a fortification is destroyed, the COG can never build one again. Engineers may arguably be one of the most important since they can use the blow torches to repair barricades. However, the other classes in OverRun are just as important in their own ways.

Gears of War Judgment Locust

There will be a variety of different types of Locust that you can play as in Gears of War Judgment OverRun. The main objective of the locust is to destroy the generator, however, they must first get through the COG team's fortifications. As a locust enemy, you earn points by damaging both the COG team and their fortification defenses. You can then use these points to unlock more powerful locust like the Corpser, for example.

Gears of War Judgment will allow you to play as 8 different types of Locust. The Ticker is very weak, but can destroy fortifications, self-explode, and use a speed ability. The Wretch, which is also weak defensively, can jump over barricades, jump into Scouts high ground areas, and screech to stun enemies. The Grenadier, which is basically the foot soldiers of the locust, can toss grenades and ride Bloodmounts to toss grenades from. Kantus locust are essentially the medics of the team. They can heal locust that are close and can even ride a Bloodmount. Riding a Bloodmount will increase the healing effectiveness of the Kantus.

The Bloodmounts can either carry Grenadiers or the Kantus. They are useful for transporting them quickly to other parts of the map. The Bloodmount quickens the recharge of the Grenadier and Kantus special abilities. Corpser locust have extremely powerful armor in the front legs which makes them very difficult to kill. Corpser can bury underneath the ground and go under fortifications, which makes them very deadly offensively and defensively. The Serapede are very powerful and can only be killed by being shot in the tail. Serapede locust can take out fortifications and shoot poison to damage COG players. Lastly, the mauler is a force to be reckoned with. The Mauler has the ability to deflect bullets with the shield and kill the COG with the spinning shield. The Mauler also has a flail to attack enemy COG with.

Yeah. I think they'll make it challenging like Gears 3's Beast Mode. I couldn't get very far on Insane even with help ^^'

Well every match you get to play as both. I would prefer COG, though. I feel like it's going to be hard to win if you are locust unless you get the strongest ones or play really smart.
