The NEW Leap Frog LeapPad Ultra

If you're a parent or grandparent of small children, than I'm sure you know how excited they get about having toys that look like yours......but play like theirs. We have been long time buyers of Leap Frog and have never been disappointed with their childrens' toys. We have been using the LeapFrog LeapPads since the first one was out on the market a couple of years ago, and my daughter LOVES it. Now that she is fixing to be 3, I think it's time for an upgrade and I'm super excited about the upcoming LeapPad Ultra this August 4, 2013.

Purchasing Information

As of July 17, 2013, the Leap Frog LeapPad Ultra is available for Pre-Order for $149 while quantities last. Once these sell out, it's going to take a little while to get them restocked, so I would definitely encourage early ordering, especially on the purple/pink choice because it seems to always be the most difficult to find around Christmas time. It will be available for purchase, reportedly, as of August 4, 2013 at most large retail stores, as well as my favorite getting place, Amazon!

The LeapPad Ultra is Going to be Hard to Compete With

There are a lot of children's tablets on the market right now, I've looked at nearly all of them, and still always come back to LeapFrog because I know exactly what I'm getting. The LeapPad Ultra, I'm sure will be no different.

The Look:

The LeapPad Ultra is a full 2 inches larger than it's previous versions at 7" of display, so it's going to look even more like Mom and Dad's. It has the graphics, camera, and the looks of your tablet with the signature kid -tough design that LeapFrog is known for. This tablet was designed from the inside out just for kids, with friendly-simple controls and a screen perfectly designed for kids' light touch (or not so light in some cases).

It's Even Tougher:

They have improved the casing of the LeapPad this round by placing a softer shock-absorbant substance around the edges as well as covering the back of the device. This is a great feature, because lets face it, kids drop things, and occasionally may even throw these. That's what they do. LeapFrog is prepared for that with their tough designs.

Double the Memory:

The LeapPad Ultra has doubled it's storage space. While the previous versions have held a nice 4 GB, the LeapPad Ultra is boasting a HUGE 8GB of onboard storage which is a very large amount, especially for children. You're going to need that memory because.........

Library with 800+ apps:

The Library for the LeapPad Ultra is going to consist of over 800 apps, games, ebooks, and more to be able to purchase and download, or purchase as a cartridge. Your child will never get bored of this table. It's already going to come pre-loaded with 11 apps to start with.

Customizes to your child's learning level:

I LOVE this feature and with this version of the LeapPad being targeted to ages 4-9, it's a genius idea. The LeapPad Ultra actually changes to fit to the child's learning capabilities and will automatically adjust the game and app difficulty to ALL of it's games or curriculum based both on your child's age and information in their profile (set up by you), as well as in sensing when they are struggling in a particular area. It will automatically go down a notch or two to make it more age/level appropriate. High Five to whoever thought of that feature.

Camera and Video:

The LeapPad Ultra is coming with a 2 megapixel camera front and back, as well as video capability. My daughter really likes this feature on her older tablet, so I can't wait to see this feature on the new one.

Peer to Peer Sharing with Wi-Fi:

This is a really fun feature to use between LeapPad Ultras that wasn't included on the previous versions. It allows the children to engage in games with other friends or family members who are also using a LeapPad Ultra. This is made possible with the integrated Wi-Fi antenna.

With Wi-Fi also comes SAFE Web Browsing:

It's not uncommon to see protected web browsers on kids electronics like this one, but LeapFrog went above and beyond that by teaming up with Zui to create a browser that can ONLY access content curated by LeapFrog. That means that instead of just blocking any inappropriate content from your child, the LeapFrog's LeapSearch browser pulls in only child-friendly, beneficial, and educational websites for browsing. This is so important in this day and age with all the online predators you keep hearing about.
