Why are Initial D diecast expensive and hard to find?

A lot of people may not know this but Initial D diecast collectibles are extremely rare. Such collectibles have a high asking price on eBay simply because there are only two licensed Initial D diecast manufacturers – one of which has already stopped production and the other has resumed mid-year of 2013.

Since the popularity of the anime and manga is gradually increasing and its audience base also expanding, this obviously (and inadvertently) dictates the high price of initial D diecast collectibles.

Why buy Tomica Initial D 2013?

As mentioned on the preceding paragraph, it would be a good idea to buy the Dream Tomica Initial D 2013 release. Simply because this is an official movie car released by Tomica (one of two licensed manufacturers). Actually, it has been years since said company has released an official Initial D merchandise.

Since dream Tomica has recently released this collectible, it is not that expensive and is still sold at regular SRPs. Buying this particular Dream Tomica diecast is not only a good idea but also a seemingly great investment.

Where to buy Initial D diecast?

Unfortunately, Initial D dream Tomica diecast is only widely available at Japan. No news yet on when it would be released internationally. I had a friend who regularly visits Japan and I asked him to buy me two. However, he can only get one at the time. I would have to ask him again next time he will visit the country.

Another option is to go for eBay or amazon – though the prices may be a bit higher as can be seen on samples below.

That's just about it.

I will rate this particular Trueno Tomica diecast 4 out of 5 stars.

It does not have rubber tires and Tomica could have made a better job regarding the plate numbers (both front and back)

It may not be perfect but this Tomica Initial D diecast will make a great addition to any diecast collector's collection.

Please feel free to leave your own rating or leave a comment below. Additionally, below are some links that are related to movie / themed diecast car collectibles

Update as of 12/30/2013

Takumi's Trueno Diecast is now available locally here in the Philippines. Got two at Toy's R Us. The SRP of this Initial D diecast is 300 pesos. Hurry up as there are hoarders everywhere (seemingly)
