Buy to play MMO

Updated on February 2, 2015

Buy to Play

If you follow the world of MMOs you would know that many of today's MMOs are free to play. This free to play model works for many aspects and allows for a wide range of people to experience the game. However, is this the way to go. Some people will argue that when a game goes free to play, the game quality goes down because of the new community that comes in. Others will say that a free to play game may not have constant updates and may not be looked after as much. However, there are some notable games that are free to play after you buy the game which should be the way of the future. Being able to buy a game for a price and have no subscription model allows for players to play whenever they want and not worry about getting the most out of their subscription. Most notable of this is Guild wars 2. This game came out about two and a half years ago and has seen constant updates and added free content. Another great aspect of the game is that there isn't any form of pay to win in the marketplace. No player can purchase an item in the gem store to get an advantage over anyone else. Most of the purchases are cosmetic upgrades. This is definitely a great way of making a game. Buy to play allows for people who actual want to play the game to play and keeps and community close knit.

Elder Scrolls Online Buy to Play

This is by far the plague of free to play games. Traveling to the main city of a game only to be spammed with in-game currency sellers can be quite infuriating. Even when the game has a anti-hack shield or a bot program they still get through. This by far is a major downfall because it can arguably ruin the in game economy. Not to mention that a lot of F2P games are of a buy to win format meaning players can just buy the best items using to bought "bot" currency. This can ruin the game play for others especially if the game has a player kill anywhere system. Low level characters will get killed by the players who have bought the best gear using real money.

This isn't a bash on F2P MMO's as there are some really good ones out there. Just be forewarned that some do have bots and hackers so some desecration is advised. Click here for a very extensive list of free MMO's that you can try. We live in a great time to be a gamer as we don't have to spend a dime to play games if we don't want. (besides buying the computer, internet etc) So go out there and try theses games, you may find one you like.
