I use normal attack speed rune because most of Irelia’s damage comes from her true damage (W) so you can make more use of your W. You don’t have to worry about last hitting minions because you can just land your auto attack and then Q.

I use Fervor of Battle because Irelia’s primary damage comes from her W. Also it is great for Irelia because she is auto-attack based champion which is great for building the stacks for Fervor of Battle. Once it has full stacks, it will inflict over 100 extra damage which is very devastating.

I personally think that teleport and flash is the best spell for Irelia. Not only that it is teleport meta, but there are lots of advantages, such as reducing time returning to your lane and grouping during teamfights. If your team has bad composition and most likely to be wrecked in teamfights, then you should take ignite over teleport and destroy your lane.

Irelia’s main skill. “If Bladesurge kills its target, it refunds 35 mana and resets its cooldown”. Very important thing to remember, especially initiating and retreating. Also, use this skill to last hit minions. Often times one auto attack wont do the trick when last hitting.

Irelia’s primary skill for inflicting damage. Use this skill when you are fighting your opponent only. Use your Q for last hitting minions.

This skill is a lifesaver. Use it carefully and wisely!

This skill is good for wave-clearing and lifesteal. The cooldown is fairly short so if you have to recall, then do not hesitate to use the ult to clear the wave of minions.

Tip:

Starting Q at level 1:

-When enemy top laner is ranged

- When enemy top laner is melee but you don’t want to fight

Starting E at level 1:

When enemy top laner is melee, but you want early advantage.

AA: Auto Attack

In laning phase, use “last hit minions” to harass your opponent.

Simply, use your Q on a last hit minion closest to your opponent, use your E to stun or slow your opponent and several auto attacks while your W is on and use your Q on enemy minion (doesn’t have to be low HP) to get away (Make sure the enemy minions are well placed).

AA: Auto Attack

Why AA before R ?

If you use R before AA, then you wont land your AA instantly because of the motion of Irelia’s ult.

To land your AA instantly, you must AA, R, AA.

For 1^st item, Corrupting Potion will be the best.

If you can control your usage of mana, then you can go doran’s blade as well.

For boots, you can either go Ninja Tabi or Mercury’s Treads depending on your situation.

Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Titanic Hydra is a MUST!!

Fact: Turn on Titanic Hydra and Q a ranged minion, mostly likely it will one shot kill that minion. Sometimes it doesn’t work due to a glitch. After Guinsoo’s and Hydra, you will destroy the enemy’s ADC and Mid.

3^rd core item is your choice. You can go Sterak’s Gage, Dead man’s plate, Guardian Angel or Randuin’s Omen.

I usually go like this:

Guinsoo and Titanic Hydra (Most Important Items)

If enemy AD is fed: Dead man’s Plate

If enemy AP is fed: Sterak’s Gage or Spirit Visage

If enemy AD and AP are fed: Guardian Angel

Yasuo or other champion who relies on Critical Strike: Randuin’s Omen

When you are building Titanic Hydra, make sure you buy Jaurim’s Fist first. Of course, if you purchase Tiamet first, you will have better attack damage, however you will not be tanky and become very squishy. Purchase Jaurim’s Fist as soon as possible and build your stacks.

Top 3 most difficult champions to face

Early game: As for Irelia, her early game is everything. DO NOT push the lane because Irelia does not have any escape abilities. When you recall, If you have 875 gold or more, then purchase pickaxe first. If lower than 875, then buy doran’s blade. If you have corrupting potion, doran’s blade and pickaxe, you can inflict much damage to your opponent. Also, put a pink ward at the places shown below. Usually the enemy does not notice it.

Recently, the time of teamfighting has quickened so I felt teleport is essential these days and its good for snowballing too. After level 9 MAKE SURE that you upgrade your wards. After purchasing Guinsoo’s Rageblade, also make sure that your rageblade stacks are at 8 when you are inflicting damage to your enemy. Often times there are no wards while you are pushing and most likely, your support wont roam all the way to top and drop a ward at top tri-bush or baron area, so make sure you use with your pink and blue wards, otherwise the enemy jungler and mid laner will kill you. When you are diving, always remember that your stacks of Guinsoo’s has to be at 8. You can teleport down to bot when there is a small teamfight during dragon time or when enemy bot laners are pushing hard.

In late game, when you purchase Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Titanic Hydra, you can clear minion waves extremely fast. Do split push if you can. Last season, just by trinity force alone, the wave clear was very very slow and it took a long time to group with the team. Also, look for enemy player who is out of position (preferably support or ADC) or farming alone. Take the chance and assassinate them and make them tilt.

There are 3 goals

1. Kill the enemy ADC or mid
2. Protecting our ADC and mid
3. Positioning between enemy ADC and mid and tanks and ruin their positions.

If your team’s ADC and mid can nuke the enemy team’s tanks, without a doubt you must nuke the enemy ADC, neutralizing their primary damage dealers. However, if your team’s ADC and mid are getting wrecked by enemy tanks, attack the enemy tank(s) together and look for the perfect chance to striker at the enemy ADC.

I hope this guide helps you master Irelia. With these strategies you can climb rank quickly, but some players still get stuck. You may want to look at purchasing some coaching or an Elo Boost to get you through early ranks or ranks where your progress is flattening.
