LeapFrog is Teaching Kids one Toy at a time

Updated on February 6, 2012

LeapFrog Educational Toys

I really love toys that are fun and educational all at the same time. LeapFrog toys are just that and I have had many from their toy line in my own home and still going. Did you also know they have learning toys and tools all the way into the teenage years? So when you think of LeapFrog remember they are not just for the very young.

I am going to show you some of my favorites by age groups and you can see for yourself.

Now also note that in some of the age groups the toys can continue past that age - it is just a generalization. Also there are hundreds of LeapFrog Toys and I am just featuring some of my favorites and some of the newest available. So when shopping for toys I recommend seeing all the options available to you.

LeapFrog Toys for 0-12 Months

Ages 0-12 Months

Even the youngest can start to learn with the LeapFrog Toys so it is never to early to start. These toys also make great gift ideas to the New Parents and also for Baby Showers. How great would it be to know that you may have helped a baby learn?

A lot of the younger age toys you will find teach the child using Music and will help them learn their Colors, Numbers, Alphabet and entice them to touch and play.

My children have had many of these toys and we can still to this day remember some of the songs they sang or phrases said. The ones we had have since evolved into new and better toys now with LeapFrog, but we have them put away for my kids children one day.

Ages 12-36 Months

The toys now going into this age group do not change very much from the above. BUT at this age group it is a great time to now add in some fun with the LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal. This is one of the coolest things I have seen and really wish it was around when my kids were this age. Basically this toy will allow young children the ability to explore each page of a book (LeapFrog Books) how they want to read them.

When your child puts this tool on top of a picture or words it will tell them what it is, say a phrase and also read to them. This really encourages a child to want to continue reading.

Here is the LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal Description:

Each Tag Junior board book introduces a different preschool skill - such as the alphabet, counting or social play - through 24 playful activities and more than 130 audio responses.* Open-ended questions and fun sound effects encourage children to take charge, as they touch any part of any page to bring words, pictures or activities to life. After their child has played, parents can connect the book pal to the online LeapFrog® Learning Path to see their child's progress and get printable activities to expand the learning!

Now that is impressive!!!

LeapFrog Toys for Ages 3-5 Years

Ages 3-5 Years

With this age group you can move into more fun Educational learning with the LeapFrog Toys and again a lot of the toys above will also carry into this age group. Now if your child has grown from the Tag Jr Book Pal you can now introduce them to the LeapFrog Tag Learning System which is very similar, but you can now bring in more stories and activities that are geared towards an older age group.

My kids had the Leap Pad when they were young, but this is just like that with new technology and I love it.

The other toy I really love and wish was around when my kids were young is the Zippity Learning System. This toy incorporates learning and psychical activity which in this day and age is a must.

Here is the Zippity Learning System Description:

Zippity, the new high-energy learning system that gets preschoolers dancing, jumping, playing and learning with Disney characters they love! The Zippity system introduces preschool curriculum through full-body play and learning. Using the interactive bopper and mat, children can stomp, swing, bop and march, driving the learning with their arms and legs! A built-in Learning Path lets parents see the skills their child is exploring as they play, or parents can create a personal LeapFrog® Learning Path online for more in-depth insights and learning ideas.

This is age is also a great start into many of the LeapFrog Electronic Toys like the Leapster and the newest - ClickStart My First Computer which turns any TV into a fun computer featuring plenty of learning games available.

LeapFrog Toys for 5-8 Years

Ages 5-8 Years

The newest LeapFrog Toy for this age group is the Didj™ Custom Learning Game System. It is the first ever gaming systems that lets you customize both the learning and gaming. The kids can connect this to the computer and create their very own characters, music and choose what learning skills they want to work on and they can change it as often as the like. You can also buy Customization kits to change the look of your game system on the outside. This is one that is on my buying list for my daughter who is 9 - I think she will love it.

Here is the Didj™ Description:

Designed for grade schoolers aged 6 to 10 years, the Didj system offers the action-packed, high-resolution gameplay that kids expect, combined with the robust learning you trust LeapFrog to deliver. But the Didj handheld also connects to the computer to offer something no other system has offered: truly customizable gameplay and curriculum.

Kids can play and learn anywhere with characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Star Wars and more popular shows, and then go online to trade the points they've earned for more modifications to the game worlds, moves, sound effects, music and more. They can even create their own Didji characters in the online Didjerator.

Kids and parents can also shape the learning online by choosing the math and spelling skills they'd like the games to focus on. Multiplication hard to master? Kids can choose to be quizzed on specific times tables, such as the 6s, 7s and 8s tables. Spelling a stumbling block? Create a custom spelling list from the 10,000-word database and practice for next week's test. Didj delivers all this, plus the personalized tutorials and self-leveling learning that are signature to LeapFrog gaming systems.

My only question is how the came up with that name - Hmmm.

LeapFrog Toys for 8-11Years

Ages 8-11 Years

The one item that sticks out to me here that is from LeapFrog is the Crammer Study and Sound System. I am not very familiar with this one so I am going to share with you the official description.

LeapFrog Crammer Description:

It is the only pocket-sized study system that lets you jam while you cram. Sleek and powerful for studying on the go, the Crammer handheld comes with a powerful flash-card creation engine and access to over 16,000 quiz questions, and it is a fully functional digital music player.

Study what you need to know most by going online to create digital flash cards you can download to your Crammer handheld. Download more than 1,000 3rd through 8th grade math, science, social studies and language arts quizzes. Plus use the Spanish Translator to practice words and pronunciations instantly! Access to all the Crammer quizzes is included with purchase and easy to download with the included USB cable.

It is on the LeapFrog Learning Path, a free online tool at leapfrog.com that offers unparalleled insights into your child's learning.

I think that sounds very cool - what do you think?
