Magic: The Gathering: The Best Uncommons of Dissension
Dissension has some quality uncommons that have mechanics such as Forecast, Hellbent, and Graft. These mechanics enhance your arsenal and give you more gameplay options.
Crypt Champion
Crypt Champion is a black creature that costs three colorless and one black mana.
It has two power and two toughness
Double strike
When Crypt Champion enters the battlefield, each player puts a creature card with converted mana cost 3 or less from their graveyard onto the battlefield.
When Crypt Champion enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one red mana was spent to cast it.
Crypt Champion can be used to resurrect beefy black creatures such as Rotting Regisaur or Master of the Feast and finish off your opponent.
Drekavac
Drekavac is a black creature that costs one colorless and one black mana.
It has three power and three toughness
When Drekavac enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you discard a noncreature card.
Drekavac is a low cost creature for its size and can be used in black aggro decks.
Slithering Shade
Slithering Shade is a black creature that costs one black mana.
It has zero power and one toughness
It has Defender meaning this creature can’t attack.
Pay one black mana: Slithering Shade gets plus one power and plus one toughness until end of turn.
Hellbent — Slithering Shade can attack as though it didn’t have defender as long as you have no cards in hand.
This card can be used in black aggro decks or in discard decks as it is very low costed and it maximize your spare mana since it is pumpable.
Court Hussar
Court Hussar is a blue creature that one costs two colorless and one blue mana.
It has one power and three toughness.
Vigilance
When Court Hussar enters the battlefield, look at the top three cards of your library, then put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
When Court Hussar enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one white mana was spent to cast it while replacing itself quickly via a card draw-like mechanic.
The Court Hussar is a nice defensive creature with three toughness and can help you arrange your deck by filtering out cards you do not need.
Plaxmanta
Plaxmanta is a blue creature that one costs one colorless and one blue mana.
It has two power and two toughness.
Flash
When Plaxmanta enters the battlefield, creatures you control gain shroud until end of turn.
When Plaxmanta enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one green mana was spent to cast it.
In a way, Plaxmanta can function as a counterspell when a removal spell targets one or more of your creatures.
Skyscribing
Skyscribing is a blue sorcery that one costs X colorless and two blue mana.
Each player draws X cards.
Forecast — Pay two colorless and one blue mana, Reveal Skyscribing from your hand: Each player draws a card. (Activate this ability only during your upkeep and only once each turn.)
Skyscribing is a versatile spell as you can Forecast it and get a card draw each and every turn or go one time bigtime and draw a whole bunch of cards.
Spell Snare
Spell Snare is a blue instant that one costs one blue mana.
Counter target spell with converted mana cost of two.
Spell Snare can cripple many aggro decks as they rely on a mana curve. Even if you do not come first, you still get to counter their two mana cost creature.
Might of the Nephilim
Might of the Nephilim is a green instant that one costs one colorless and one green mana.
Target creature gets plus two power and plus two toughness until end of turn for each of its colors.
This is powerful when cast on a multicolored creature. If you cast it on a five colored creature like Transguild Courier, it gets plus ten power and plus ten toughness until end of turn.
Patagia Viper
Patagia Viper is a green creature that one costs three colorless and one green mana.
It has two power and one toughness.
Flying
When Patagia Viper enters the battlefield, create two one power and one toughness green and blue Snake creature tokens.
When Patagia Viper enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one blue mana was spent to cast it.
Patagia Viper is a good value for the four mana you spent as you get a two power and one toughness flying creature and two one power and one toughness creatures.
Stomp and Howl
Stomp and Howl is a green sorcery that one costs two colorless and one green mana.
Destroy target artifact and target enchantment.
This is an excellent sideboard against artifact and enchantment based combo decks as it takes out two pieces for the price of one.
Squealing Devil
Squealing Devil is a red creature that one costs one colorless and one red mana.
It has two power and one toughness.
Fear
When Squealing Devil enters the battlefield, you may pay X colorless mana. If you do, target creature gets +X/+0 until end of turn.
When Squealing Devil enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one black mana was spent to cast it.
Squealing Devil provides a lot of value. It not only provides a "Howl from Beyond" effect, it also provides you a two power and one toughness creature with fear.
Weight of Spires
Weight of Spires is a red instant that one costs one red mana.
Weight of Spires deals damage to target creature equal to the number of nonbasic lands that creature’s controller controls.
Weight of Spires is a decent card in Modern as nearly everyone uses nonbasic lands. It can provide a decent amount of damage for very little mana.
Azorius Herald
Azorius Herald is a white creature that one costs two colorless and one white mana.
It has two power and one toughness.
Azorius Herald can’t be blocked.
When Azorius Herald enters the battlefield, you gain four life.
When Azorius Herald enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless one blue mana was spent to cast it.
Azorius Herald is a good value at a mere three mana. You get an unblockable creature and gain life as well.
Blessing of the Nephilim
Blessing of the Nephilim is a white enchantment that costs one white mana.
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets plus one power and plus one toughness for each of its colors.
This is powerful when cast on a multicolored creature. If you cast it on a five colored creature like Transguild Courier, it gets plus five power and plus five toughness.
Azorius Guildmage
Azorius Herald is a white and blue creature that costs two white and / or blue mana.
It has two power and two toughness.
Pay two colorless and one white mana: Tap target creature.
Pay two colorless and one blue mana: Counter target activated ability. (Mana abilities can’t be targeted.)
Azorius Herald can stop creatures cold and is an excellent defensive creature. It does not have a tap symbol on its abilities so they can be used multiple times.
Hellhole Rats
Hellhole Rats is a black and red creature that costs two colorless, one black and one red mana.
It has two power and two toughness.
Haste
When Hellhole Rats enters the battlefield, target player discards a card. Hellhole Rats deals damage to that player equal to that card’s converted mana cost.
Hellhole Rats is a creature that if unhampered deals at the very least two damage with your opponent discarding a land or zero cost permanent and at most eighteen damage as the highest possible card you can force your opponent to discard is Draco, which costs sixteen mana plus the two damage dealt by Hellhole Rats' attack.
Jagged Poppet
Jagged Poppet is a black and red creature that costs one colorless, one black and one red mana.
It has three power and four toughness.
Whenever Jagged Poppet is dealt damage, discard that many cards.
Hellbent — Whenever Jagged Poppet deals combat damage to a player, if you have no cards in hand, that player discards cards equal to the damage.
Jagged Poppet is a good deal for a mere three mana. It even gives you a discard effect if you have no cards in hand.
Twin Strike
Twin Strike is a black and red instant that costs three colorless, one black and one red mana.
Twinstrike deals 2 damage to each of two target creatures.
Hellbent — Destroy those creatures instead if you have no cards in hand.
Twin Strike is a nice two for one. This one card can take out two creatures.
Plaxcaster Frogling
Plaxcaster Frogling is a green and blue creature that costs one colorless, one green and one blue mana.
It has zero power and zero toughness.
Graft Three (This creature enters the battlefield with three plus one power and plus one toughness counters on it. Whenever another creature enters the battlefield, you may move a plus one toughness counter from this creature onto it.)
Pay two colorless mana: Target creature with a one power and plus one toughness counter on it gains shroud until end of turn. (It can’t be the target of spells or abilities.)
Trygon Predator
Trygon Predator is a green and blue creature that costs one colorless, one green and one blue mana.
It has two power and three toughness.
Flying
Whenever Trygon Predator deals combat damage to a player, you may destroy target artifact or enchantment that player controls.
Trygon Predator is a decent creature at two power and three toughness with flying and adds more value by destroying your opponent's artifacts and enchantments.
Trial / Error
Trial / Error is a split card.
You can choose which of the two mini cards you play.
Trial is a white and blue instant that one costs one white and one blue mana.
Return all creatures blocking or blocked by target creature to their owner’s hand.
Error is a blue and black instant that costs one blue and one black mana.
Counter target multicolored spell.
This card is versatile as you can choose which mini card you can play. It functions either as a limited Unsummon or limited Counterspell.
Supply / Demand
Supply / Demand is a split card.
You can choose which of the two mini cards you play.
Supply is a green and white sorcery that one costs X colorless, one green and one white mana.
Create X one power and one toughness green Saproling creature tokens.
Demand is a white and blue sorcery that costs one colorless, one white and one blue mana.
Search your library for a multicolored card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
This card is versatile as you can choose which mini card you can play. It functions either as a token generator or limited tutor.
Rise/ Fall
Rise/ Fall is a split card.
You can choose which of the two mini cards you play.
Rise is a blue and black sorcery that one costs one blue and one black mana.
Return target creature card from a graveyard and target creature on the battlefield to their owners’ hands.
Fall is a black and red sorcery that costs one black and one red mana.
Target player reveals two cards at random from their hand, then discards each nonland card revealed this way.
This card is versatile as you can choose which mini card you can play. It functions either as a Raise Dead and Unsummon combo or a limited Hymn to Tourach.
Hit / Run
Hit / Run is a split card.
You can choose which of the two mini cards you play.
Hit is a black and red instant that one costs one colorless, one black and one red mana.
Target player sacrifices an artifact or creature. Hit deals damage to that player equal to that permanent’s converted mana cost.
Run is a red and green instant that costs X colorless, one red and one green mana.
Attacking creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn for each other attacking creature.
This card is versatile as you can choose which mini card you can play. It functions either as a mini Angrath's Rampage or a Burn Bright.
Transguild Courier
Transguild Courier is an artifact creature creature that costs four colorless mana.
Transguild Courier is all colors.
It has three power and three toughness.
It can be combined with Blessing of the Nephilim or Might of the Nephilim to create as massive creature.
Ghost Quarter
Ghost Quarter is a nonbasic land.
Tap Ghost Quarter: Add one colorless mana to your mana pool.
Tap, Sacrifice Ghost Quarter: Destroy target land. Its controller may search their library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle their library.
This is a variant of Strip Mine albeit for nonbasic land.
