PFSL S2: Takeaways From Week 3
In a Thanksgiving week of PFSL football, we saw some very solid performances and a few teams beginning to take shape. Unfortunately for the Bandits, Herd and
I'm not referring to them in a positive way.
Some great showings we will get to in a moment, but I want to say that Zeus Nike and first time starter Anthony Edwards specifically disappointed me with their performances. We'll talk more about Nike in a bit, but Edwards (despite this being his first ever start) should have put up better numbers. The Sharks couldn't be stopped offensively, which means the quarterback had opportunity after opportunity to try to put something together - yet only managed 115 yards and one score with a 59% completion percentage. You're gonna have to do much better than that to succeed in the PFSL, young man.
Now then, let's get to the major takeaways of season 2, week 3 of the Pro Football Simulation League!
Sharks Offense is Legit
Wow oh wow oh wow. Raise your hand if you saw this coming? Now put your hand down, you fucking liar!
Santa Monica absolutely went in on the San Antonio Herd this week. The very first overall draft pick, Brackett showed exactly why he was selected before everybody else in the league, as the man passed for over 400 yards and 6 touchdowns. He is undoubtedly the favorite to win offensive player of the week. His favorite target was deep threat Cash Money. He absolutely scorched the Herd's secondary for 7 catches, 224 yards and 3 touchdowns. The defense simply had no answer for him.
The running game didn't do much (there was no need) as newly signed running back Mantis Toboggan only took 9 carries for 26 yards. Although he slayed through the air, matching Cash Money's 7 catches for 97 yards and 2 scores.
If these guys can get on a roll like they did this week, I don't know who can stop them. Brackett is playing at an elite level and Cash Money is unstoppable when he's getting his targets. It will be interesting to see how Toboggan fits into this offense, and how many carries he'll get from week to week. Until then, the Santa Monica Sharks improve to 3-0 and remain one of the two teams who remain undefeated.
Isotopes' Running Back Is A Workhorse
We all knew coming into wee that running back Daymeon Grey was a good runner. After week 2 against the Sharks, Grey had a stat line of 31 carries for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns. The former tight end definitely surpassed those stats in this one game against the Bandits. He saw 37 carries for 143 yards and 4 scores. If Kevin Brackett had his huge game on any other week, this would be the easy favorite for player of the week.
Quarterback Zeus Nike saw his struggles continue, as he completed 11/18 (61%) for 139 yards to go along with an interception. This is especially noteworthy considering the outrageous number of touches Grey saw. One would think that Nike would have an easier time with defenses adjusting to the workload of Grey and begin stacking the box, which leaves receivers in more one on one situations.
Stud receiver Jack Brown still got his work though. Brown hauled in 7 receptions for 87 yards and it was obvious that Zeus Nike felt Brown was his only go-to threat in the passing game.
If Daymeon Grey keeps up this production and workload, we just might be seeing the workings of a running back stepping into the spotlight as one of the PFSL's best runners in the game.
Which team had the win impressive Week 3 win?
