Review: Crash Twinsanity
In 2004 The Crash Bandicoot series had a far out idea. Crash and Cortex working together. When I first heard that, there was nothing going to stop me from getting the game, but somehow I found it somewhat disappointing.
Graphics - 9/10
The graphics are something that they did not go wrong on when creating this game; the idea to bring Crash into 3D really paid off. It has no sketchy edges, giving the game a really crisp touch and the colours are bright and dazzling like a fairy tale land.
Sound - 8/10
Though admittedly the music can get a little annoying with its repetitiveness, it is catchy and fun to listen to; sometimes I feel compelled to play the game just because of the music. It is up beat and gives it a comedic feel that would be missing if the sound hadn't been done the way it had.
Gameplay - 7/10
I love the fact you have complete freedom of where to walk in the game, unlike past games where you are stuck to one route; the controls are also fairly easy, with the same basic movements as in the previous series, however a very important part of the game play is flawed, and that's the camera, it can be jumpy at times, but worst of all is what happens to it during cut scenes; the camera will move and depending on where crash is, it can move right into the middle of an enemy who will kill you and you'll lose a life, which means that you have to be very careful to make sure that you didn't move crash in the direction of danger before a cut scene arrives as it can be very frustrating when this happens.
Fun Factor - 7/10
The actual playing of the game has a higher fun factor for me, of about 9, but the reason I lowered by two points is for one simple reason. The auto saving. Throughout the game there are your various checkpoints for if you die, which is fine, but they also have auto save boxes, for when you want to turn the console off and there just simply aren't enough. You could get really far through a level and die near the end and have to start from the very beginning when you come to play again because the auto saves are so infrequent (it depends on how good you are, but there could be about 3/4 or more worth of gameplay between saving points); this really lowers the fun of the game because of have to repeat things so often until you finally succeed.
Overall - 7/10
I would say that Crash and non-crash fans would all enjoy this game, but if you are not an advanced player and need to save frequently, then this probably isn't the game for you; however, if saving the game isn't a problem for you then this is a definite buy.
