Allods: A F2P MMORPG Worth Paying For
One game I'm really excited about this year is Allods Online. Allods is a free to play Russian mmorpg (massively multiplayer online game) developed by Astrum Nival. It's set in a high fantasy/steampunk universe, has 2 factions (like many others I guess) and will feature ship vs ship battles later on. Allods is currently in closed beta but so far it's looking great!
I wanted to share some screenshots so you can take a quick look at the game (I know it's stylistically like World of Warcraft but give it a chance). Don't worry, I won't publish photo hubs too often. I'm just working on getting to level 20 so my write up of the closed beta will have to wait. In the meantime, enjoy!
My Gibberling Warden. Gibberlings are one of the more unique features of Allods - they always come in triplets and you get to customize each of them.
For contrast, here's what the League city of Novograd. It's a little more high fantasy.
Here's my orc. Orcs are part of the Empire faction, while Gibberlings belong to the League. As you can see here, the Empire is a bit steam-punk.
My Xadaganian Scout (Empire). Don't ask me why she's in a school uniform!
When you die, you go to Purgatory. You can hang out here till it's your turn to revive or pay a goblin to resurrect early.
Here's what the map looks like. I didn't have too many quests when I took this screenshot but you'll notice that quest objectives are already laid out.
Here you can see the talent grid. Once characters reach level 10, they are able to allocate talents from these grids. They're a little less linear than WoW's talent trees.
Unicorns are among the creatures you will find in Allods!
My League cleric, looking across Lightwood, the second League zone.
On the dock in Siveria, the level 11-20 League zone. So far I really like it!
I hope these screenshots are making you just a little curious! By the way, these don't do the graphics justice. For a free to play mmorpg the quality is amazing. I'm hoping it goes on to be hugely successful, and will continue to play throughout the betas as well as after launch.
