Sims 3 Testing Cheats | Cheat Your Way To Success!

Updated on October 13, 2009

The Sims 3, when played as the game was intended to be played is unfortunately a bit of a clunker. Fortunately, there is a way around some of the more tedious parts of the game that tend to slow it down to the point where it becomes almost painful to play, and that is to enable testing cheats. Enabling testing cheats will streamline your game play exponentially, and it will do it without introducing the random glitches that can occur when you mod the sims.

To enable testing cheats:

Ctrl + Shift + C Opens the menu, an opaque blue bar across the top of the screen.

Then type in 'testingcheatsenabled true' without the ''s, and a myriad of possibilities will open up to you.

At Home

Trigger Age Transition

Shift +Left Click gives you two options, modify traits for active sim, and trigger age transition. Trigger age transition is an excellent way to control how fast your sims age without having to buy endless birthday cakes.

Modify Traits For Active Sim

This is the other option you will be given when you Shift +Left Click with testing cheats enabled. This is handy for getting rid of traits you don't like if your sim ages up badly, or for removing traits you get bored of. Essentially, this is a free 'Mid Life Crisis' option.

Moodlet Removal

If you have testing cheats enabled, you can simply Ctrl + Left Click away any annoying moodlets getting in the way of your game. Your sims will never need to sleep, eat, shower or pee again if you don't want them to! This cheat absolutely revolutionizes the way that the game can be played and turns it from a symphony of boring to a quickfire exploration of the world.

The Mailbox

You wouldn't guess it, but the humble mailbox has a great deal of power when testing cheats are enabled. Simply by Shift + Left Clicking the mailbox, you can do the following:

Set Career

Probably one of the most powerful cheats, choosing 'Set Career' allows you to instantly put your sim at any level of any career branch. No more slogging away for days on end!

Make All Happy

Make everyone in your household happy!

Make Friends For Me

It's a pain having to force your sim out to socialize. This option makes instant friends for your sim, perfect for achieving the relationship requirements associated with leveling charisma.

Make Me Know Everyone

Fairly self explanatory, and a one click way of getting a pretty decent charisma achievement as well.

Force NPC

This allows you to force a visit from any class of NPC, including

  • Maid

  • Pizza Delivery

  • Babysitter

  • Repair Technician

  • Repoman

  • Newspaper Delivery

  • Mail Carrier

  • Grim Reaper

  • Burglar

  • Police

  • Firefighter

All handy options when you need a visit but don't want to have to create the circumstances for one to arise, or don't feel like waiting for the game to generate one for you. A word to the wise, if you force a burglar to come to your house, he will steal your stuff.

Force Visitor

Forces a random sim to drop around to your home.

Make Needs Static / Make Needs Dynamic

If you choose this option, your needs will stop changing. You will not get hungry, you will not need to pee, you will not need food. If you change it back later, they will once again start to grow over time.

Out And About

Add To Household

Shift + Left Click on any sim in the game to add them to your household.

Shift + Left Click anywhere on the world map to have your active sim instantly teleported to that location.

I was wondering what this was until I read your hub. I have never been a gamer so can't comment. Some friends say I'm missing out big time though! Thanks!

I've played vast amounts of this game :) I think you'll definitely enjoy it dohn.

Cheating is totally the only way to go, Simenthusiast :) moveovbjects is probably one of the essential cheats to building a house that actually 'looks' right

I've yet to buy this game! I got so hooked onto the Sims 2 that I'm now reluctant to buy it (but believe me, I will very soon). Thank you for writing this! It sounds like you're a fan yourself!

have you tried the moveobjects_on cheat? it can do all sorts of interesting things, such as put sims where objects belong (such as bookshelves), and put objects through walls...

      Cheating is fun, isn't it?
