Super Training: Pokémon X & Y
What do Stats do?
- Hit Points (HP) - HP is a Pokemon's life points and measures how long a Pokémon will live. The greater the HP, the longer they'll typically live.
- Attack - The power of physical attacks. (Bug, Fighting, Flying, Ghost, Ground, Normal, Poison, Rock, and Steel.)
- Defense - Resistance to physical attacks.
- Speed - Who attacks first in battle.
- Special Attack - How powerful special attacks are. (Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fire, Grass, Ice, Psychic, and Water.)
- Special Defense - Resistance to special attacks.
What is Super Training?
Super Training is a special feature, like Pokemon-Amie, where you play mini-games to train your Pokémon. Besides the mini-games, Super Training can also be done while you're playing your Pokémon game.
Super Training Mini-Games
To get to the Super Training mini-games, you must first access the Super Training menu by using the L and R buttons. Once you are at the menu, you should see your Pokémon and a punching bag. Using your stylus, click on the button with the soccer ball at the bottom left.
You will be brought to the Super Training mini-games. You can choose between multiple stats to level - Special Attack (Sp. Atk), Hit Points (HP), Attack, Special Defense (Sp. Def), Speed, and Defense. It doesn't matter which stat you choose to train, it will always come up with the same mini-game.
Once the mini-game has been chosen, you will be brought to the mini-game. The object of the mini-game is to score as many goals as you can within the time limit. While you are scoring goals, the opponent Balloon Bot will shoot balls towards you. You must avoid them using the Circle Pad or using the touchscreen.
During the mini-game, your Pokémon will have the chance to use specific colored balls that have special effects. The color of ball is dependent on which species you are using.
Each game has three levels. Completing the games will increase your chosen stat by a certain number of points.
- Level 1: Increases stat by four.
- Level 2: Increases stat by eight.
- Level 3: Increases stat by twelve.
Completion of the games will also be tracked by individual Pokémon and medals can be earned.

Core Training and Training Bags
Winning mini-games will enable you to get training bags. These training bags further increase stats and effort values. Only twelve training bags may be stored at once.
To select a bag, simply go to the Super Training menu and click on the training bag with two arrows at the bottom right. This will allow you to choose the training bag you would like to use on your Pokémon. Make sure the Pokémon you want to use the bag on is chosen before you choose the bag.
After the bag has been chosen, you can either click on the bag to make the Pokémon attack it or you can let your Pokémon attack it on its own. Making your Pokémon attack the bag manually is much faster as the Pokémon will only hit the bag automatically once a minute.
Each bag has a certain effect and is divided by their size - small, medium, and large.
- Small training bags offer plus one point.
- Medium training bags offer plus four points.
- Large training bags offer plus twelve points.
Other bags can be received but are rare and harder to obtain.
Effort Values
Effort Values, also known as EV, are points that are awarded during training and gameplay that can boost a Pokemon's stats.
Typically, four EV equals to one actual stat point.
In relation to Super Training and Core Training, training bags and items will boost EV. In order to participate in Secret Super Training, a Pokémon needs to have maximum EV.
EV can be tracked on the Core Training menu on the right side of the screen. When your Pokémon reaches maximum EV, the tracker will be completely green.
Secret Super Training
Once a Pokémon has received maximum effort values, access to Secret Super Training will be granted. Secret Super Training gives twelve more mini-games and offers more training bags to be received as well as rare items.
