The Night the Playstation 3 Died

RIP PS3

My husband has been a video game addict for as long as I can remember. As part of his collection he acquired the Playstation 3 immediately upon it's release. Since 2005, he has collected several different games and we have also used it as a Blu Ray player.

That was until Father's Day. As the thoughtful wife, I knew how much he wanted to get the PS Move. (Even though I thought it was stupid since we already had the Wii!) I had not only got him the Move with the game Sports Champs in the bundle, but I also got him Yoostar 2, so he had another game to play as well.

Mid-game, the screen on the TV flashed. The Playstation light started blinking. What we had experienced was the Yellow Light of Death. Our Playstation 3 was pretty much done for and the game was stuck inside. The fan wouldn't turn on so we were pretty sure our Playstation was done.

The game system, through gift cards that were forgotten from Christams and a trade in to Game Stop, has now been replaced. It was a long 24 hours, but the original Playstation 3, only 20 GB but reverse compatible to the Playstation 2 games, will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace and I hope when you are refurbished you will make another family very happy!

To the tune of The Night Chicago Died!

In the heat of a dueling battle
In the land of the Video Games
When the Playstation 3 died
And now it needs to be replaced

When a man named Eli
Tried to make that game his very own
And he called his wife to fight
With the forces of the PS Move

I heard my husband cry
I heard him pray the night his Playstation 3 died
Brother what a night it really was
Brother what a fight it really was
Good Bye

I heard my husband cry
I heard him pray the night his Playstation 3 died
Brother what a bad gift he got
Brother he can no longer play with it
Yes it was the YLOD

And the sound of the blinking light
Though the fan had gave it all
'Til the last of the video game
Had surrendered and died

There was shouting in the room
And the sound of stomping feet
And I asked him what happened
To the Playstation 3 he did tend

I heard my husband cry
I heard him pray the night his Playstation 3 died
Brother now the game is stuck
Brother can you help get it out
Glory be!

I heard my husband cry
I heard him pray the night his Playstation 3 died
Brother all the memories we had
Brother all the games we played
Yes it was the YLOD

And there was no sound at all
The fan had taken the final fall
Then the TV turned to a blue screen
The situation seemed real mean
And he kissed the Playstation face
And he brushed his tears away

The night his Playstation 3 died
The night his Playstation 3 died
Brother what a night the people saw
Brother what a fight the people saw
Yes indeed
