It is a very enjoyable and addictive game.

Millionaire Tip

Please note that these games take up a lot of system resources. Be sure to check the system requirements to make sure they will work on your computer. We had to install additional ram and a graphics card to play the game.

Also note that it does take some time to load the game each time you play it. The Sims does provide some entertainment to watch while you are waiting.

The Sims 3 game can be played by itself and is enjoyable by itself. But because it is so enjoyable, you may want to try the expansion packs to add to and enhance the game playing experience. You can choose any of these expansion packs, or all of them to add to your game. You can also pick and choose a combination of expansions as you wish. The games come in a CD and can also be downloaded.

Please note that all of these expansion packs must be played with the original Sims 3 game. They will not function by themselves. To save money, the Sims 3 game now has combinations that are packaged together, so you may want to compare prices of your games.

Decorate your dorm room to your heart's desire!

The Sims 3 Dragon Valley

Available August 6, 2013, this pack provides Sims with a new world called Dragon Valley. While not officially an expansion pack, it includes a new world (Dragon Valley) and new creatures (dragons). This may seem like a rerun, since there is already a Sims Medieval, but Sims Medieval is a separate program (not a part of Sims 3) and does not have dragons.

The Sims 3 Island Paradise Expansion Pack

The Sims 3 Island Paradise Expansion Pack

Released on October 22, 2013, the Sims 3 Into the Future Expansion Pack allows us to take our Sims into a world similar to the Jetsons. Of course, they go into a portal to travel through time to go a hundred years into the future to a world called Oasis Landing. They can chart their future using the Almanac of Time to build their legacy, meet their descendants and explore life in their future. The Sims can live there or simply purchase a dream home for the future. We can experiment with future technology and create Plumbots, new futuristic buildings and transportation. They can travel back and forth to see how the changes they make in their current life affects the future. The expansion pack comes with an exclusive dark industrial set.

The Sims 3 Roaring Heights Expansion Pack

The Roaring Heights is another world pack, which means there is a new city for your Sims to live. It is a glamorous city in vintage style with a skyline, art deco furniture, and bright colors. You can take your Sims characters back to the Roaring '30s, with the vintage fashions and hair styles, and a fixer-upper car that can be brought back to life. The Sims can actually get in the car and make out in it. You can have luxurious parties, Great Gatsby style.

The city has beaches and skyscrapers. The boardwalk with a roller coaster is sold separately.

A lot of people are commenting that it reminds them of Grand Theft Auto 5. While you might imagine that this type of era should have gangsters and guns, but they are not included in this pack.

This expansion pack became available December 12, 2013. I would recommend buying it directly from The Sims website instead of Amazon.

Stuff Packs

In addition to the expansion packs, Sims also offers Stuff Packs to supplement your game play experience. The Stuff Packs give your Sims new things they can purchase, and there is some additional interactivity with this "stuff", but the game play does not change significantly.

These packs are:

High End Loft Stuff

Fast Lane Stuff

Outdoor Living Stuff

Town Life Stuff

Master Suite Stuff

Katy Perry's Sweet Treats

Diesel Stuff

70's, 80's, and 90's Stuff

We have not purchased any of these Stuff Packs so that we could save money and system resources.

Thank you earnforlife for your comment. Sims 3 and other video games do have a tendency to be addictive and cause obsessions. I often find myself ignoring my own needs as I try to help my Sims fulfill theirs. I found that if you watch their website, they frequently have sales to help all those expansion packs be more affordable.

My wife also loves the Sims 3. She is obsessed. She hasn't played for a while and I know that she does not have the last 2 expansion packs. I'll send her to read, she'll get excited about this hub. Thanks for sharing, you write interesting articles.

Thanks Christine - I think the Sims 3 provides great lessons for kids, and give them a chance to try out different scenarios without having to learn the hard way. Just let them get the game, and make sure they never learn the fact that they offer expansion packs!

Wow...real life is so much easier. Knocking wood that neither of my kids have an interest in this one. :) Nicely laid out with great detail. This article is sure to be a big hit with the younger generations. Voted up.

Thanks Aurelio - you do have to take a break from Sims to live real life once in a while, but these expansion packs sure do keep us addicted to the game.

I've really been out of the Sims 3 loops for awhile -- all these expansions are great. I only have World Adventures, which I'm still trying to get through. Voting this Up and Interesting.

Thanks Bill, The Sims is a very addictive game that my daughter and I have been playing for a long long time. It actually teaches you a lot about life as you play, and it is fun to tell the little people what to do. Their interactions are very amusing.
