Immersion done right

With the gaming world only getting more and more competitive, gamers are constantly looking for that edge over their opponents, without breaking the bank. Enter the Tritton AX720's, the only stop you need on the road to the perfect video game headset. These bad boys are easily compatible with your Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. You can also detach the microphone to use the headset with your MP3 player or iPod.

Utilizing Dolby Digital Headphone technology you can be sure that every sound on the battlefield is heard and then some. You'll hear sounds from every direction, pinpointing the location of your attacker. I play a lot of Halo: Reach online and I had no idea how many subtle sounds I was missing even on my 5.1 surround sound setup. Sounds like footsteps, gunshots and even reload sounds seem to be enhanced, giving my audio cues a boost supplying a kind of sixth sense when playing with others online. And if your doubting you can actually hear sounds behind you, don't. When people are shooting, sprinting or even just walking behind me I am able to hear that loud and clear and respond accordingly. I'm 100% sure these things have increased my kill to death ratio. Add FPS Freeks into the equation and I almost feel guilty when using the duo of upgrades, almost.

These things are comfortable

When gaming for hours you need a gaming headset that keeps your focus while maintaining comfort. After many consecutive hours of wearing these things I can honestly say they do in fact provide hours of gaming enjoyment without becoming a pain in the ass on your head. The foam earpads feel great and will continue to feel great no matter how long your gaming session.

I would know because I wear them.

Setup is swift

The receiver is slick and can be tucked away easily if you don't want it displayed.

You just plug the supplied optical cable from your Xbox 360 to the back of the receiver, plug the receiver into a wall outlet or power strip. Finally, plug your headset into the front of the receiver. The dongle that gives you access to the game volume, voice volume and audio source switch is simple yet effective on regulating what matters on the fly. You will need an additional dongle if you don't have the new slim 360. It allows optical out on all non-slim models. It's cheap and also a sinch to install. Overall the setup takes literally 3 minutes.

The verdict

I regret not jumping on the gaming headset boat earlier, but I am really glad I finally did. The exceptional audio quality coupled with cloud-like comfort makes this headset a must have for casual and hardcore gamers alike. Add to that the great price and you've got yourself the perfect gaming upgrade trifecta. Open your ears to the gaming world with Tritton's AX720's. You won't be disappointed. My scores for its features are as follows.

Sound Quality......................................... 9 The clear highs and deep bass are great, however there is a slight and barely noticeable hiss when there is no sound, but the headset is on. You can not however, hear the hiss when playing games and no longer becomes noticeable.

Comfort...................................... 9.5 The pads surrounding the inside of the headset provide long lasting comfort without ever becoming a pain, regardless of how long you have them on.

Value.......................................... 8.5 Definitely worth the price but the $122.00 price tag may be too steep for some but hey, they're less than the price of two games.
