Where to Buy Lego Sets and Parts

Updated on January 16, 2019

My History with Lego

I started seriously collecting Lego sets in 2014. Prior to that I was buying sets for my kids, which I had more fun putting together when they lost interest. I've been building sets since the 1970's, although, I don't have any sets from that time period. I am now looking for deals on sets that I want or can resell at a later date. With the toy store Toys R Us closing, and the lack of a toys only department store, there are many places to look for Lego sets and many places to find set discounts.

When To Find Discounts on Lego Sets?

After a few years of looking for discounted Lego, I don't have a sure fire way to find sets on sale, however, changing your shopping behavior can increase your chances. First, after major shopping holidays, like Christmas, are a great time to look for clearance discounts as stores are looking to clear their inventory. Another time is right before the shopping holiday. Second, is right after the release of new sets. And third, is to change your behavior by finding the clearance isle in your favorite store that carries lego and walk down it every time you are in the store. Walmart has some great deals in their clearance isle and you will find return items and sets they have had for a long time. Finally, look for stores going out of business that carry Lego sets and try to time the best discount.

If during your searches you find open boxes, be sure to bring them to the customer service area and request an additional discount based on what is missing.

Other places to find discounted lego sets

eBay, Craigslist, and Letgo have deals. However, like Amazon, you have to know what you are buying and the retail prices. Facebook also has a marketplace, but there are also groups on Facebook, like Bricks at a Discount, that watch for Lego sales that can help you so you don't have to do all the work.

Sites like Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, and Letgo have deals, and you do have to know what you are doing as many people will sell items at or above the retail price.
