Which console is truly the better console? Xbox 360 or Playstation 3?

Updated on March 3, 2012

So overall The Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 are arguably the two best console systems currently on the market. They have revolutionized the way we as gamers play our games, and made video games more advanced and in depth then anyone ever thought they could get. Both of the consoles have its ups and downs, but which console is truly better? Well i'll discuss all of this below.

The Playstation 3

- The Blu-Ray Player. The Playstation 3 comes standard with a blu-ray player and has had one since the system came out. This is a feature that the Xbox 360 does not have, and one that puts it one step ahead of the entertainment industry. This essentially saves you money because with the built in blu-ray, you don't have to spend upwards of $100.00 or more on a blu-ray player.

- The Playstation 3 only games. Obviously a big selling point to the Playstation 3, like Xbox 360 are the games you can only play by owning a Playstation 3. For instance, The Gran Turismo series, Ratchet and Clunk series, The Motorstorm series, Twisted Metal, and Socom series are just a few of the games that are only available to the Playstation 3. These games have been highly sought after, and Sony makes sure they keep sales high by only offering them to players on the Playstation 3 network.

-Free Internet Usage. Another key point to the Playstation 3 Franchise has been the free internet usage. Whether your playing online multi-player or looking for youtube, or the internet usage, the Playstation network gives you all of this for free.

-The Processor. The playstation beats out the Xbox 360 with its processor based on the fact that the Playstation 3 uses 7 single core processors, while the Xbox 360 uses 3 dual core processors.

The Xbox 360

-The online experience. Arguably the selling point to any player looking to buy a Xbox 360 would be the online experience. Xbox 360, even since the original Xbox, has put in a great effort in developing their online experience to be the best it possibly could be. Everything from giving you a free microphone to the constant updates to their systems. Either way the online experience is truly greater than that of the Playstation 3.

-Halo and other Xbox only games. Halo has been another one of the most important selling points to the Xbox 360, and Xbox. The Halo game series has been a crucial part of Xbox considering it is the only console where you can play this game. This game has always been a sought after game since it first came out, and has been a true selling point just as much as the online experience has been. There are also the games like Forza Series, and the Dance Dance series that are key elements of the Xbox Franchise.

-Ability to play past games. One of the biggest problems for users of the Playstation 3, is they cannot play their games from the older consoles. While there are some exceptions, overall the Playstation 3 lacks in this category. The Xbox 360 does not allow every game, but has a HUGE database and allows you to play MOST of the games from the original Xbox on the Xbox 360.

The Winner

The winner for me will be the Xbox 360. Now let me describe the reasoning behind choosing the Xbox over the Playstation. For me video games have evolved from playing by yourself to being able to play with millions of people from all over the world. And for me when I am buying a video game I look at solely buying games for the online play. While playing games alone can eat up time, and be useful, for me if I am going to dedicate any time to a video game I prefer that game to have a good online backing.

As said before the Xbox 360 fully utilizes the online play and features one of the most popular online communities of any gaming system. Plus it is nice that Xbox gives every player a headset, so you will never get lonely.

Personally I have used both systems, and while the Playstation does have some advantages, when it all comes down to which system is truly better, I must say I give the Award to the Xbox 360.

Yes the networks are a lot stronger on the Xbox which makes the games a lot more effective when playing games with more than 2 players in a game.

I feel like you get what you pay for as far as live play goes. I think XBOX live really makes it stand out over PS3.

I don't know, I've been on Xbox since the 360 came out.. Had 1 ring of death which they replaced.. Then 3 years ago I got the elite 250GB Xbox because I needed a more powerful for video making and more storage.. I have never been let down by xbox, but I also take good care of my system, keep it well ventilated, keep it flat, and never have problems.. AND I log a LOT of hours on my system as I record a LOT of footage.. So I never seem to have problems.

I've had 7 Xbox's completely die on me and that in itself is a huge let down of money and loyalty. I found Xbox to be cheaply designed. One tip of the Xbox fcks up my games. Microsoft wants Sony's Bluray which that to me is like saying "We want your better than our stuff". In my opinion the online isn't a huge turning point for me, its the costs and dependability. Xbox's huge driving force is their online which in the end gets the popular vote.

I like how the guy failed to mention the likes of infamous 1 and 2 the uncharted series, the little big planet series and the likes of metal gear solid

The list could go on and on ...

What games are you gonna play online COD and FIFA which are pretty over rated

I think I'd rather play a wide variety of awesome games thank you very much

I think the matter comes down to what you expect in a video game. If playing games like skyrim, and entertainment purposes playing PS3 is better, but when you are playing online games, the whole experience is better on Xbox 360.

Like drspaniel, I have only really played the Ps3 and have had only a little experience with the Xbox 360. I like the exclusive titles on the PS3 such as Uncharted 2, and I know that even games which are on both consoles are usually better on the PS3. However, the Xbox does sound as though it offers a better online experience, but the problem is, you have to pay for it.

Yes the price can get a bit steep, but i do prefer the sociable community when choosing the system I would like to play. Either way both systems are extremely similar.

I have only really used the PlayStation 3 (because i have one) and every now and again played on the xbox 360. However I preferred the PS3 as it didn't feel like it was trying to take money away from you, but Xbox's community is much more social-able. Especially, since Microsoft gave every player a head-set. But for me £30 a year is bit much to be paying when you could get a similar thing for free.

Excuse my poor grammar and wording in this answer. :D
