Best Star Wars Lightsabers for Kids

Updated on April 28, 2013

The Best Lightsabers - May the Force be With You

A Light saber, also known by the Germans as a "Laser Sword", is a very powerful weapon in the hands of a Jedi Knight, or even the Sith. Choosing your blade is like choosing your hand, it must fit perfectly. In this article I will give you a little background information on lightsabers, their lore, crystals, and even some of the fun you can have with them.

What kind of Lightsaber should I Get?

Everyone remembers the first time they saw a Star Wars movie, it's one of the most amazing times in a childs life. I can remember having lightsaber battles with my brothers on a daily basis, they're a very important part to a childs life. Letting your imagination explore the universe of Star Wars in a safe environment in your own home is awesome. These toy lightsabers are a crucial part of that, they're cheap enough for anyone to afford, but you can also buy more expensive ones for the "bigger" kids, and by that I mean adults to have fun with. The greatest thing about light sabers, is each color has a different meaning, and each and every hilt can be different. Finding the perfect lightsaber for your child just requires a little bit of finesse and exploring.

Looking for some good party fun to have with your kids? Or maybe you just want them to entertain themselves for a while? This light saber three pack, although cheap, are actually durable and perfect for children of all ages to fool around with without hurting themselves. Let your children pretend to be Jedi, great for brothers or sisters a like and great for the value, they light up in the dark and allow for children's imaginations to run wild.

Epic Lightsaber Duel

This is one of those epic moments you could experience with your kids, although most of the video is CG, you can easily choreograph your own videos, or just for fun, with these easy to use lightsabers. I've had quite a lot of fun even recently by choreographing fights with friends, whether you're just looking for fun or trying to make a professional video, these can really help you along for practicing.

What do the Colors mean?

There are many types of lightsabers in the Star Wars Universe, and unfortunately only a few in real life, and most of them cause instant blindness. That being said, there are still options on the market today for some of the more profound colors, purple, orange, blue, red, green, and a few others. Each color has a different meaning.

The basic colors for the Jedi Order were

Blue - Which was the color of the Jedi Guardian

Green - Which was the color of the Jedi Consular

Yellow - Which was the color of the Jedi Sentinel

Each color represented the skill of the wielder and the mindset that the Jedi possessed. For instance, the great Lord Revan was initially a Jedi Sentinel, and then became a Sith, and eventually back to a Jedi. He used his mind and acrobatics to defeat his enemies.

This Double Bladed Sith Light saber is designed for a child who just loves to be evil, it's a great price for it's durability and the fact that it resembles Darth Maul's, and Sith Assassin light saber makes it iconic. Even if you're not a child, and you're looking to practice some martial skills, this light saber offers as a great practice weapon without hurting yourself. It is durable enough to spar with others who have a lightsaber, and safe enough for kids not to injure themselves. A fun fact, the actor Ray Park, who performed all of Darth Mauls stunts, was the only person who had actually trained for the role and represented what a normal lightsaber battle looks like.

Want to make your own?

Although it might seem hard to make your own lightsaber, it's really not. All you need is a bit of knowledge with tools, perhaps some handy work experience, and some very easy to obtain products from your local hardware stores. Obviously, it won't be able to slice through titanium doors, but you can make some great special effects or just have some good old fashioned fun with them. Down below is a video featuring one of the many "Do It Yourself" guides on how to make a lightsaber, have fun exploring the different hilts you can make and get ready for adventure!

DIY Build Your Own Lightsaber

This light saber is an official replica of Darth Vader's, and features realistic sound effects, such as powering up, idle hum, clashing, and powering down. The glowing bright red blade ignites with a realistic power up, and power down sound, and sports a durable metal hilt that is as realistic as a light saber gets. It is more for adults, but a responsible child would be able to use it as well. Avid star wars fans would love to have this in their collection.

This specially designed Darth Vader light saber is one of the more improved models, featuring a single blade rather than a deploy able one, it offers much more durability, and is actually capable of sparring with others, even if they're using practice swords. It's glow in the dark is much better than the previous models, and offers realistic sound effects when swinging the saber. For the price, it really can't be beat, and if you're looking to have some great sound effect duels and act the part, this is the way to go. If you have a child who wants nothing more than to conquer the Galaxy, you can't go wrong with this one.

Want to Enter the Universe?

If you're not only looking for a gift for your small child, but one for your older child, or even yourself, why not enter the Universe of Star Wars in the new Star Wars MMO. Titled Star Wars: The Old Republic, it takes place 3000 years previous to Darth Vader and allows you to assume the role of your own hero, and go on your own adventure unique to each class. Classes ranging from, a Republic Trooper, Smuggler, Jedi, or Consular, to Sith Inquisitor, Sith Warrior, Bounty Hunter, and Imperial Agent. Choose to either save the galaxy, or crush it with an iron fist on your own adventure whilst getting enthralled with the story of the character you created.
