Reviews of my favourite websites for trivia questions and answers
Do you love trivia? I have to admit upfront I am a trivia tragic.... totally addicted to the next question, game or quiz night... so bad is my addiction that 6 years ago I moved from regular trivia player to pub trivia host and now I have a legitimate reason to spend hours every week uncovering new questions and answers.
In the process of feeding my addiction I have found some fantastic trivia and quiz websites so I decided to put together this page to share them with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
If you know any great sites I have missed here please add them at the bottom of the page.
Sporcle
"Mentally Stimulating Diversions"
Sporcle has been around since 2007 but I was slow to discover this site only stumbling across it last year. There is plenty here to keep you entertained with over 4000 Sporcle created games and 144000 user created games.
Topics include all the usual suspects, geography, movies, science, sport and arts but you can also find things like gaming, religion and games on interesting words. The quizzes are timed adding an element of excitement as you try to beat the clock. My only complaint is that the sports quizzes are almost exclusively about US based sports. Perhaps I should submit a cricket game to remedy that ;)
Sprocle differs from Factacular in that there is no community and tournament component however you can challenge your friends via email. You can play the games here without signing up but if you do create a free account you are able to keep track of your personal statistics and the games you have played.
Factacular
My favourite place to challenge myself
Factacular is my number 1 favourite trivia website. With it's enormous "factopedia" it can help make learning history, science and all sorts of facts lots of fun. They run regular individual and team tournaments so you can test yourself against the crowd and make friends around the world at the same time. You can contribute facts and the forums are friendly and fun.
The categories vary hugely and include topics from all world perspectives because of users being able to suggest additions. A random selection from the top of the page today includes: Fictional computers, nascar drivers nicknames, who's who from Australia, Grammy award winners and impressionist painters.
Give it a try to I bet you will be hooked too!
The Top 10 of Everything - The annual for trivia lovers
This book is like the Guinness Book of Records for Trivia lovers. It's great for browsing or writing your own trivia quizzes.
FilmWise
Home of the famous movie invisible quizzes
FilmWise is my number one movie trivia site. It offers very challenging quizzes that are great for movie buffs and people with ridiculously good visual memory ;)
Among my favourite games here are the themed quizzes. For example in the quiz "doors doors and more doors" still shots of doors from various well known films are presented for you to name the film. However their best known quizzes are the "invisibles" where the actors have been removed and only the background and their clothing remains. These are so much harder than you think they will be.
No need to sign up unless you want to join the very active forums with even more trivia fun and games going on.

Mental Floss
"Where knowledge junkies get their fix"
Mental Floss is an American magazine and a website full of interesting facts, trivia and quizzes. There is a random fact generator, a fun fact-filled blog and my favourite part the Daily Lunchtime Quiz.
Recent quiz topics have included: Where's the bone, Shakespeare character or pharmaceutical drug and best selling albums of the 1980s something for everyone really!
No need to sign up, free to use and not too many ads make a visit to the site worth your time.

- Trivia Fix
A great choice for American Sports fans. - Funtrivia
An oldie but still a goodie, Funtrivia has over 1.6 million members and at least a million questions. Join one of their tournaments or just challenge yourself on almost any topic you can imagine. - Music Trivia Quiz
A basic looking site but plenty here to keep music lovers happy. I like the interactive listening quizzes here the best. - Paul's Quiz
Not an interactive site but rather a question database. Great if you need to write questions for a fund-raiser or pub quiz.
Trivia books to play alone
Ken Jennings - the trivia guru
After taking out the title for longest winning streak on Jeopardy! Ken went on to write lots of great trivia books.
