Best Wii U Split Screen Local Co-op Games

Updated on January 26, 2013

The Best Wii U Local Co-op Split Screen Games

The Wii U finally came out for the newest generation of consoles from Nintendo. It finally brings 1080p quality and all the great looking HD games that come with it, from family games to hardcore games like Darksiders 2.

With the new gaming tablet that comes as a controller and more, you are now able to have one person play on the tv, while your friend plays on the tablet which adds way more diversity to split screen gaming and makes it a hundred times better.

All of these games will have some sort of 2 player local gaming with either Split Screen, or the tablet/tv playing.

First Person Shooters

Black Ops 2

Black Ops 2 is one of the best first person shooters on the market right now. It is the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise that broke records in sales and more and is definitely one of the most played games in 2012.

Black Ops 2 is set in a futuristic military time and has multiplayer, a single player campaign, and a mode called "zombies", that all gives thousands of hours of fun for a group of friends or family.

The online and offline multiplayer and zombies mode both feature split screen, as well as tablet/tv playing for whatever is liked to be used more.

Black Ops 2 is rated M for Mature.

Metacritic Score - 81

Check Out Black Ops 2 on Amazon for pricing and details.

ZombiU was one of the few games released on start day of the Wii U. It has received some bad ratings, but from my experience, this is a very fun game and has some very intense moments.

ZombiU is also taking advantage of how big zombie games are right now and does very well in creating an apocalyptic atmosphere. It has pretty good graphics and is very scary and fun.

The campaign is single player only and the multiplayer mode is 2 player local. One person plays as a human trying to fight off the zombies in a few different modes, and the other player is control of the zombies and chooses where to place them to try to kill the other player.

ZombiU is rated M for Mature

Metacritic score - 77

Need For Speed: Most Wanted

Need For Speed: Most Wanted is one of the newest ones in the franchise to come out with very slick new graphics and great gameplay on the Wii U. It is definitely one of the best racing games currently out.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted brings back the intense racing styles, from running from the cops to just great racing. It has many great cars and styles you can upgrade and change and is definitely a buy for any fan of racing games.

The only offline local mode is a multiplayer portion where one player is the driver of the car, and the second player is on the gamepad and controls the environment from traffic to the number of cops and many other features to try and mess with the racer.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted is rated E for everyone.

The release date for Need For Speed: Most Wanted on the Wii U is March 19, 2013.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is my personal favorite fighting game that has come out in a long time, and is definitely rated as one of the best fighting games ever. It is one of the few fighting games released so far on the Wii U, but it doesn't matter because this game is so good that it completely fills the void.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 brings about all the great things about the first one, and adds even more with all the great characters, upgraded gameplay, and pretty much better everything.

It has offline multiplayer where you can team up with a friend and take on CPU's for some friendly challenges and boost your skill for online play.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is rated T for Teen.

Metacritic score - 83

Action Adventure

New Super Mario Bros. U

New Super Mario Bros. U is the first of the Super Mario Bros to be on the Wii U and is definitely the best one yet. It has amazing quality, graphics, everything. Even if you feel like you grew tired of them over time, you still should definitely try this out from how upgraded it has become compared to the rest.

As one of my favorite games as a kid, this is still my favorite game on the Wii U. It has awesome fun, great local co-op, and is definite fun for a group of friends. If you ever liked any Super Mario Bros when you were younger, you will love this game even more.

The local co-op is shared screen like it was on the Wii, but it features 5 players offline that can all play together at once which just triples the fun factor of this game.

New Super Mario Bros. U is E for everyone.

Metacritic score - 84
