11 Cool Lightsaber Toys For Kids!
There Are Dozens Of Lightsaber Toys For Kids and Even Adults. But Which Ones Are Best?
My kids love star wars, and the lightsaber seems to be one of the most popular subjects when we read star wars stories because they are so powerful and cool looking.
But best of all, they love to play with their lightsaber toys, and I like the ones for big kids and adults too!
After buying a boat load of star wars toys and all kinds of lightsabers, from the little lego star wars ones to the luxurious expensive ones, here's my list of the top 11 lightsaber toys for kids...
Obi Wan Kenobi Lightsaber:
Obi Wan has always been my favorite Star Wars character since I was a kid. I have always admired his light saber and used to dream of having one of my own. When I was a kid, the light saber toys that were sold in stores were so bad and they looked nothing like the ones from the movies.
I ended up having to use my imagination a lot more with those toys for this reason. That is why I am happy to own the new Obi Wan Kenobi FX light saber toy.
Even though I am now an adult, I still get a kick out of owning one and it is a pretty accurate replica of Obi Wan's light saber from Revenge of the Sith. Any Star Wars geek would surely love to own this and I am definitely one of those geeks. The sound effects are the best I've ever heard and it even has a sound for malfunctioning when the blade is removed.
When the blade is in it doesn't wiggle around at all and it feels light weight when I swing it around in a saber fight with my friends. Overall, I think it is the best light saber toy on the market today and certainly a collectible for any Star Wars fan.
Basic Lightsaber - Anakin Skywalker
I bought this light saber for my son last year because he had always been a huge Anakin Skywalker fan. Plus, this light saber was priced cheaper than any of the other light saber toys on the market. So, after my son first tried using it we both noticed that this light saber didn't light up at all.
That was kind of surprising because I figured a light saber should at least light up, since it's in the name. Unfortunately, it doesn't light up and I also noticed that the coloring of the blade fades very quickly after using it.
All it took was for my son to swing the saber at a few tree branches and the blade started becoming discolored afterwards. With all of these things happening, I figured the next disappointment would be the light saber actually breaking. Fortunately, the light saber does seem to hold up well and can take quite a bang without being damaged.
My son is very aggressive with it and has had numerous saber duels with his friends. After all of that, the saber is still sturdy and together. In my opinion, it is a good saber to buy your kids if you are on a budget and want something that won't break easily. But don't expect any fancy visuals with this or else you'll be disappointed.
Darth Vader Lightsaber - Better Quality
Everyone's favorite Star Wars villain is Darth Vader and the red bladed light saber is surely popular amongst all Star Wars fans. I know my kids love to use the Darth Vader light saber in their duels. One of them likes to role play as Luke Skywalker and the other as Darth Vader.
Well, this light saber seems better than others I've bought for my kids. It lights up, has pretty cool sound effects and makes clashing noises when banging it into the blades of other sabers. However, it does wear out fast.
After I bought this for my son at Christmas time, he started using it nonstop throughout the day. Within 3 hours or so, the sound effects stopped working. I changed the batteries to see if that had something to do with it, but no. It was just over used and the sound chip was worn out. The saber still lights up, but it doesn't have the sound effects anymore.
I admit it was a cheap toy compared to other light saber toys on the market, but I didn't expect it to wear out this quickly. I think next time I buy one of these toys I'll try to go with a more expensive light saber.
6 Lego Lightsabers - Must Have For Legos Fans
My kids just love to play with their Star Wars Lego sets. Many of the Jedi characters come with these little light saber toys that they hold in their hands. The problem is that these small pieces are very easy to lose and my kids tend to lose them a lot.
I didn't think there was a way to buy replacement light saber toys for these Legos, but fortunately there was. This set of six multicolored Lego light sabers was just what my kids needed. These little light sabers come in three different colors and they fit into the hands of the little Lego characters just like the old light sabers. My only problem was with the price.
It seemed a little inflated for these kinds of toys, but I guess it had to do with the demand for these light sabers. I'm guessing my kids aren't the only ones who lose these little light sabers easily, so the price must be matching the demand.
Still, I think I should have gotten mine used from a classified ad or something. I just know my kids are going to lose these light sabers again, so I better be on the lookout for some bargains on these.
Double Bladed Light Saber - Darth Maul
Ever since I first saw "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" in theaters back in 1999, I was in love with Darth Maul and his awesome dual bladed light saber. I remember buying the original double bladed light saber back in 1999 and it was terrible.
It wasn't very sturdy and the handles were always so bulky. I remember having a lot of trouble swinging them around when having a saber fight with my friends. But now, this new Darth Maul Double Bladed Light Saber is a huge improvement over the older model. It is light weight and seems very sturdy when getting in a saber fight with it.
Yes, I am an adult and still use these light saber toys in dual fights with my friends who are also Star Wars geeks like me. My only complaint about this light saber is that it doesn't light up. I will never understand why a light saber toy would not actually have a "light up" feature, since it is in the name.
But besides that, everything else in this replica is awesome. It is a faithful reproduction of the double bladed light saber from the movie, minus the lighting. Overall, I would recommend this light saber as a collectible for any Star Wars fan or as a toy for your children.
Find Them Cheap On Amazon:
Best toy lightsaber on the market.
You have to get one from the good guys and one like this for the 'bad guys'.
Good starter lightsaber that won't withstand many battles, but for the price it's worth it to see the smile on your son or daughters face.
If your son or daughter loves legos you have to get these.
This is a must have even though it may break in the middle. But at least after it breaks you have two lightsabers :-)
Mini Lightsaber (EP III)
I am a collector of light saber replicas from the Star Wars movies. This Anakin Skywalker light saber is a master reproduction of the light saber that Anakin used in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It comes with a certificate of authenticity to show how faithful the replica is to the movie.
Even though the handle is about 45% the size of the handle from the movie, it is still a great collector's piece that any Star Wars fan would love to own. Of course this is not a light saber toy that you can buy for your kids to get into light saber fights with. In fact, this doesn't even have a blade that comes out of the handle.
However, it isn't a cheap plastic toy either. The handle was crafted to look exactly like the handle from the Star Wars film. It is crafted well together with aluminum and molded plastic. It comes with a display stand that is black and bears the golden Star Wars logo on it.
Both the handle and the stand come in a special box which features the history of the prop printed on the inside cover. Any true fan of the Star Wars movies will love to own this light saber just for admiration purposes.
Lightsaber Light For Your Kids Room
I was very disappointed with this remote control light saber room light. On the box, it looked cool and it seemed like it would be very decorative for my kids' room. However, when I first took it out of the box I was amazed in how much work it was just putting the light saber together. Then after that mess was done, I had to actually drill and screw it into the wall. I never thought I'd have to use a power drill in order to set up a novelty item like this.
As far as the design of the light saber goes, I wasn't very impressed with it. The handle is not well crafted and the remote control for the light stops working after a few uses. Then for the lighting of the saber, it looks great when it's on in the dark.
The only problem is the light doesn't stay on very long. After about 10 minutes, the light goes off on its own. I thought this was going to be a nightlight that stays on all night long. Plus, this light saber takes five AAA batteries and it sucks the juice out of them fast. As much as I like Star Wars, I don't like it enough to put up with this catastrophe. But my son LOVES it and so will yours.
General Grievous Lightsaber
The General Grievous spinning light saber looked pretty cool on the box. As a Star Wars toy enthusiast, I could not resist buying it. When I took it out of the box and tried swinging it around, I thought it looked great.
The lighting of the blades looked impressive and the design of the handle resembled the one from the movie a bit. However, this light saber is not durable at all. I let my son use this light saber to have a saber fight with his friends.
After about 20 minutes, the spinning piece in the middle broke and you could no longer spin it. Luckily, you can detach the spinner and use this as two separate light sabers. This is what I ended up having to do with mine and that was fine, except I don't like being forced to do that.
The advertisement showed this as a dual light saber that spins and I expected it to be just that. Overall, it is an all right product if your kids don't get into heavy dual action with it. If they do, expect pieces of the saber to start flying out at you because it does break easily if you bang it hard enough.
But even though there was a problem, it's another toy my son enjoys very much.
Darth Maul Helmet [Mask]
I have always thought Darth Maul was a cool looking character. Looking at Darth Vader's helmet gets old very fast but Darth Maul's helmet is a lot more detailed. That is why I love this electronic Darth Maul helmet.
Plus, it straps on very well to my face and doesn't slide around like other helmets I've tried. It also seems to fit heads of all sizes, both for children and adults.
It even has cool Darth Maul phrases that come out when you press a button on the horn. It makes you feel like you are Darth Maul after awhile. From the outside, it doesn't look like an easy helmet to see through; however, the sight capabilities are actually quite impressive.
My children love to wear this helmet while swinging around their Darth Maul double bladed light saber in a dual fight. I am also impressed in how durable the helmet is. My son has thrown it around and hit it like a baseball with his light saber.
After all of that, the helmet is still together and the electronic sounds still come out of it when you press the horn button. I must say this is the best Star Wars toy I've seen to date.
Fun Lightsaber Key Ring
Finally, a Star Wars toy that an adult can appreciate! This key ring has a pretty red LED light and is great for seeing small spots in the dark. This is not a Star Wars toy that I would buy for little kids though because it is very small and can be a choking hazard if they are left alone with it. Plus, most kids don't have keys so they won't need a key ring.
This light saber key ring is a great novelty item for adults, but don't buy it thinking it's going to work like a normal flashlight. For example, if the lights go out in your house don't expect to find your way in the dark to the living room with this key ring light. It is a better light to use on smaller areas that you need to see, like key holes.
If you are outside in the dark and you need to open your car door with a key, this light can come in handy for that. However, after awhile the light button on the key ring started getting stuck and eventually I couldn't turn the light on anymore. It is a cheap little key ring, so I didn't expect much from it. Overall, it's fun to own while it is working.
General Grievous Helmet
The outside design of this helmet looks impressive. However, don't be fooled by the word "helmet" because that is not what this is. My idea of a helmet is something that completely covers your head.
This is a mask because it only covers the front of your face. Still, this "helmet" is great for any Star Wars fan who loves the General Grievous character. It makes electronic sounds and only requires one AA battery. It is also a great mask to wear on Halloween because of the extensive detailing on the face.
One thing someone had a problem with is that when you wear the mask for long periods of time it starts to hurt your nose. It must be because the weight of the mask presses down on the bridge region of your nose. It can be quite uncomfortable if you wear it for extend periods of time for this reason. Plus, there are these ear extensions that attach to the sides of the mask and they don't hold up very well.
If you are having a light saber fight while role playing with the mask on, you are likely going to find the ear pieces will fall out if you are moving fast. Overall, the mask is great to look at but you certainly won't be comfortable wearing it.
Here They Are On Amazon:
A very exciting mask for anyone - especially your son who wants to scare his sister and anyone else nearby.
This is really something. I like it myself.
Not the best product for adults to deal with but your kids will like it.
Fun for those of us old enough to carry keys :-)
This is the more expensive one that is probably much better.
