The doll maker usually starts with a scrap of this, a piece of that, and then an idea. The doll maker's idea is usually kindled by the heart of child within, to be shared with the child without. A doll maker's doll is much like a mom's secret recipe. It is a design, pattern, method, material, or an inspired moment that begins the creation, and it is one that is usually passed down from one generation to the next.
With respect to tradition, a new site is under construction for those interested in learning how to make dolls from scratch. A doll maker uses all types of materials, doll's theme or setting. Doll makers make use of wood, straw, cloth, yarn, metal, paper, and more.
Madame Kit Bender is a doll I made from scratch a few years ago. The doll is completely posable. It is comprised of fabric, felt, lace, beads, and more. The story about Madame Kit Bender and how she was made will be featured at the doll makers' site coming soon.
