Dragon Age 2 Defeating the Ancient Rock Wraith

In dragon age 2, Hawke and party are trapped by Varric's brother Bertrand in the Deep Roads. They have to find an alternative way to escape. A talking profane speaks and says that they have to defeat the ancient rock wraith to get the key for the exit from the Deep Roads.

The Ancient Rock Wraith is a difficult opponent. To defeat the ancient rock wraith, the following about the ancient rock wraith's attacks and defence must be appreciated. First the dragon age 2 ancient rock wraith has a mass electricity attack that throws out massive amounts of electricity damage to the whole party.

Second, the ancient rock wraith has a rolling stone attack that can take out an opponent easily. Third, the ancient rock wraith has a "normal" melee attack that can deliver a huge amount of damage to the opponent. Fourthly, the ancient rock wraith has a healing mode where it huddles into a pile of rocks in the centre of the chamber and heals up. The fifth attack is the ability of the ancient rock wraith to summon profanes - or rocks possessed by hunger demons to destroy the party.

Dragon Age 2 Choosing a Party for the Deep Roads

In dragon age 2 deep road expedition, choosing a party for the deep roads is therefore quite important in arriving at this point and trying to defeat the ancient rock wraith. Since Varric is compulsory, it is important to take perhaps two warriors to buffer all the damage from the dragon age 2 ancient rock wraith. Aveline in a defensive team would be a good option here. Use Varric to throw area attacks with Bianca, and a mage to throw both area attack spells and healing spells.

Dragon Age 2 Tactics for Defeating the Ancient Rock Wraith

In Dragon Age 2, recommended tactics are - as soon as the ancient rock wraith teleports to the right of the chamber, hit it hard with as much offensive spells and warrior attacks as possible. Save Varric's arrow attacks for when the profane are summoned. Remember to upgrade Varric's area arrow attacks to the max so that one area attack will eliminate the profanes, together with the mage's attacks. Next the ancient rock wraith will teleport to the centre of the chamber. It will heal somewhat, and then unleash the dreaded lightning bolt attack on all the party members. The key is to hide behind the pillars (for the whole party) so the pillars will negate the electricity attacks. Next the dragon age 2 ancient rock wraith will summon profanes. Use Varric's area attacks to take out the profanes. Next the ancient rock wraith will start its melee attacks and rolling stone attacks. Spread out the party, and use one warrior on each side of the ancient rock wraith. The cycle then pretty much repeats itself. Use plenty of healing and restore stamina / mana.
