Fun Family Board Games For any Family Game Night!

Updated on October 29, 2014

Best Board Games and DVD Games for The Entire Family

The wintertime is the best time of year for family bonding. Since it is so cold outside during the winter months, we spend much more time inside. Often families spend time watching movies or playing video games but often many families enjoy hanging out together and playing board games.

Our family tries to have a family game night at least 2 or 3 times a month. It just gives us a chance to spend time with each other and connect. Sometimes it is difficult with 3 teenagers (who often would much rather do other things) but with some coaxing we can usually encourage them to have a game night with us. And once the games begin it is always a really fun evening together.

Christmas-opoly Board Game - Monopoly With Holiday Properties & Tokens

Christmas time is a great time to get the entire family around the kitchen table playing some fun board games like the Christmas-opoly Board Game shown in the image above. it is Monopoly With Holiday Properties & Tokens. What a fun way to enjoy the holidays and be with your family.

Board Games- Christmas Party Ideas

We have several favorite games that we enjoy playing. But our most recent favorite game is a DVD game called One Versus 100. This is actually a game that "Santa" put under the tree last year. And it has really gotten a lot of use. The trivia game is just like the television game show. We enjoy playing DVD games because we can play as teams and we can often sit comfortably in the living room.

Another favorite, especially when there is a large group of people is electronic catch phrase. This is a fast paced word game for the entire family. It is perfect for all ages. Catch Phrase is also a good choice for a company Christmas party idea.

What to Look for Before you Buy Board Games

Over the years when I wanted to buy board games I would look for games that got good reviews and looks like it would be fun. And over the years we have found many that we love and play often. Here are a few things to look for when shopping.

  • Good Reviews (usually if someone tells you they liked it, you will too).
  • Check how many players. The more players the more fun it will be.
  • Check age requirements. Can the young and old play. Will it be fun for all.

Games We Loved

We also enjoy playing many of the classic family games like trivial pursuit and scrabble. And of course we enjoy playing card games like Rook or word games like Scrabble or Bananagrams or Boggle.

Any kind of game that is competitive yet fun is a good match for our family.

Beat The Parents Board Game

Family Quality Time - Beat The Parents

Beat the Parents Board Game is a fun game for the entire family. Kids get to answer questions about stuff that parents care about and parents get to answer questions about things that are important to kids. What makes it fun for kids is that they realize that their parents don't really know much at all.

This is a game that kids will actually enjoy playing with their parents.

Can you Not Say It? Harder than you think...

The Don't Say It Game is really easy to play. You are given a word that you need to describe in order for the other person to guess it. But what makes it hard is you are given 3 of the most commonly words associated with your word, and you can't use any of those words. This makes it interesting as well as challenging. But either way it is sure to be fun for the entire family.

Lunch Box Kids Board Game

I love the Lunch Box Kids Board Game also known as Patented Fitness Board Game for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is while they are having fun, kids are learning about diet, nutrition and fitness. Plus families get to have fun together. And this game is a hit. People love it. This patented Fitness Board game has recieved all 5 star reviews on amazon.com.

Yes, it is a hit for families, but I also think it would be a great way for teachers to help educate kids about making smart and healthy choices in life.

SET Game

Set the Family Game is great for the entire family. Everyone plays at the same time so you don't have to take turns. It is difficult yet really fun to figure out the shapes. Often kids are better than the parents.

The way it works is you need to look at 3 cards and find a "set" of 3 that all have matching characteristics. They may all be the same color or the same shapes. It is a fast paced game because you want to be the first to yell out "SET".

I do accept as true with all of the concepts you have presented for your post. Theye very convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are too quick for beginners. Could you please lengthen them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.

Spontuneous is the funnest board game, IMO. You get to sing and try to stump others by suggesting words that remind them of song lyrics.
