By giving you child a karaoke machine, you'll be helping to build their confidence through music and the art of performing. You never know, you may very well be harboring the next American Idol!

As someone who sings everyday, I would have loved one of these as a kid. It would have sure beaten standing on the sofa singing into my hairbrush. Alas, they didn't have karaoke machines when I was a little girl.

But it's 2013 and the market is a flood with karaoke machines for kids. That's not to say that all of them are worthy of your hard earned cash. Some are grossly overly priced for what they offer, while others are lacking in terms of quality and durability.

To help you determine the right machine for your child, I've gone through and hand picked 5 childrens karaoke machines.

Unlike numerous karaoke machine reviews, these players haven't just been plucked from nowhere; I've made these selections based on hard cold facts - the number of star ratings (most are 4 star and above) each machine received from consumers. Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone - Karaoke machine for children

Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone
Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone
This is a sweet little karaoke machine for preschoolers that comes in pink as well as the blue version that you see here. What I like about this is that it's compatible with iTunes, MPS and WMA files. It's really quick and easy to download tracks too. Now I don't know about you but I practically have my entire music collection on iTunes. When I purchase music I usually do it through iTunes. Gosh, even my little nieces and nephews have online music collections, so something like this player would be great for my brood. I really like the fact that you don't need to faff about with buying or creating karaoke CDs; a real money and time saver. This Fisher Price karaoke machine for children will hold up to 4 hours of music, which is around 50 to 60 songs and comes preloaded with 5 kiddie songs to get you started. If you still have all your tracks on CD or don't have access to a computer then you wouldn't be able to do much with this kids karaoke machine other than play the preloaded songs. But that would get boring after a while. One thing to note is that while there is a mic included, it doesn't detach from the machine. So your kid will have to carry the whole machine with them when they move. I know my niece really loves to dance when she sings so I can imagine that this might make things a little awkward for her. The saving grace is that it's lightweight enough so it won't weigh your child down. Another thing to consider is that there is no mains socket with this. It takes 4 C batteries. My advise is to get rechargeable batteries if you plan on buying this. Your child will inevitable play with this for hours and rechargeables will just save you the cost of having to replace them all the time. Now the Fisher Price Kid Tough Music Player is compatible with both PC and MACs, although a few buyers had problems trying to get it to work with a MAC. However, Fisher Price support is always on hand to help out if you have any issues with this not synchronising with your MAC. Recommended age: 36 mths to 6 years old.
