By giving you child a karaoke machine, you'll be helping to build their confidence through music and the art of performing. You never know, you may very well be harboring the next American Idol!

As someone who sings everyday, I would have loved one of these as a kid. It would have sure beaten standing on the sofa singing into my hairbrush. Alas, they didn't have karaoke machines when I was a little girl.

But it's 2013 and the market is a flood with karaoke machines for kids. That's not to say that all of them are worthy of your hard earned cash. Some are grossly overly priced for what they offer, while others are lacking in terms of quality and durability.

To help you determine the right machine for your child, I've gone through and hand picked 5 childrens karaoke machines.

Unlike numerous karaoke machine reviews, these players haven't just been plucked from nowhere; I've made these selections based on hard cold facts - the number of star ratings (most are 4 star and above) each machine received from consumers. Hopefully you'll find this unbiased review of some use to you.

My #5 Favorite Kids Karaoke Machine

Sing Along Disney Princess CD Player - Karaoke machine kids: CD players for kids

Sing Along Disney Princess CD Player
Sing Along Disney Princess CD Player

Is this kids karaoke machine fit for a little princess? Well if you haven't already guessed, the Sing Along Disney Princess Player takes it's inspiration from Cinderella. This pretty pink CD player is made in the shape of a pumpkin coach.

The player includes a microphone (it has two mic sockets - great for those duets) and headphone jack so your child can get plugged in and lose themselves in the music. It plays CDs but also has the capacity to play MP3s too.

Unlike most childrens karaoke machines, this one plugs right into the mains, meaning that you wont have to constantly buy replacement batteries.

While the Sing Along Disney Princess CD Player sure is a pretty looking thing I just can't help thinking that there doesn't appear to be anything special about it in terms of features and functionality.

Nonetheless, many buyers have reported that they and their kids were very happy with their choice. It strikes me then that this would make a good purchase for someone who was more interested in an inexpensive themed karaoke player without all the frills.

My #4 Favorite Kids Karaoke Machine

Vtech - Learning Tunes Karaoke - Portable karaoke machine for kids

VTech Learning Tunes Karaoke
VTech Learning Tunes Karaoke

In true Vtech style, their version of a karaoke machine combines core educational elements with music.

As well as being able to sing a range of fun songs, there are options to sing songs about numbers and letters too. This makes for an extremely quick and easy way of getting your child to practice their counting and ABCs.

There are a total of 15 songs preloaded onto this karaoke machine, so your child will have a nice selection of tunes to rock out to. There's also a microphone so that your kids can be in the spotlight as they sing along to the songs. The LCD screen acts as the display for the words.

Kids absolutely love to hear funny voices and Vtech have taken this on board by adding a fun voice changer, which has 5 different voice changing elements from robotic voice to echo and more.

This is a cute toy, with 'toy' being the operative word. The speakers have a toy-like sound to them and the limited functionality of this singing machine means that you are unable to change things like the tempo of the songs. Also the mic can only be used while the songs are playing, so there is no option for your child to sing acapella if they wanted to.

This is a good portable karaoke machine for a small child. While it does offer great educational value, do not expect too much in the way of a strong singing machine.

Recommended age: 36 mths to 7 years old.

My #3 Favorite Kids Karaoke Machine

Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone - Karaoke machine for children

Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone
Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Music Player with Microphone

This is a sweet little karaoke machine for preschoolers that comes in pink as well as the blue version that you see here.

What I like about this is that it's compatible with iTunes, MPS and WMA files. It's really quick and easy to download tracks too.

Now I don't know about you but I practically have my entire music collection on iTunes. When I purchase music I usually do it through iTunes.

Gosh, even my little nieces and nephews have online music collections, so something like this player would be great for my brood. I really like the fact that you don't need to faff about with buying or creating karaoke CDs; a real money and time saver.

This Fisher Price karaoke machine for children will hold up to 4 hours of music, which is around 50 to 60 songs and comes preloaded with 5 kiddie songs to get you started.

If you still have all your tracks on CD or don't have access to a computer then you wouldn't be able to do much with this kids karaoke machine other than play the preloaded songs. But that would get boring after a while.

One thing to note is that while there is a mic included, it doesn't detach from the machine. So your kid will have to carry the whole machine with them when they move. I know my niece really loves to dance when she sings so I can imagine that this might make things a little awkward for her. The saving grace is that it's lightweight enough so it won't weigh your child down.

Another thing to consider is that there is no mains socket with this. It takes 4 C batteries. My advise is to get rechargeable batteries if you plan on buying this. Your child will inevitable play with this for hours and rechargeables will just save you the cost of having to replace them all the time.

Now the Fisher Price Kid Tough Music Player is compatible with both PC and MACs, although a few buyers had problems trying to get it to work with a MAC. However, Fisher Price support is always on hand to help out if you have any issues with this not synchronising with your MAC.

Recommended age: 36 mths to 6 years old.

My #2 Favorite Kids Karaoke Machine

Pop by Sing Scene - Karaoke for kids

This is more of a karaoke mic than an actual machine but it's proving very popular for kids (and adults) of all ages.

The mass appeal of this device is that you just plug it into your TV and play. No need to download any music or mess around with karaoke CDs.

Pop by Sing Scene comes preloaded with 10 well known pop hits from artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, Fergie, Fall Out Boy, Taylor Swift, Alicia Keyes and others.

There is also a game element to this mic, which gets you and your family competing to see who can hit the most correct notes as you sing.

This is such a fun mic that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I really like the idea of it being plug and play too; quick, easy and lots of fun.

The only drawback is that you may get tired of singing along to the same songs after a while, and as there is no option to download additional music you're kind of stuck with what you have.

Still it is a very good karaoke mic that will provide hours of entertainment with a gaming element that is lacking in the other featured karaoke machines. The perfect musical mic for karaoke for kids!

My #1 Favorite Kids Karaoke Machine

***No. 1 TOP PICK*** Memorex MKS-SS1 SingStand Home Karaoke System - Best karaoke machine for kids

Memorex MKS-SS1 SingStand Home Karaoke System
Memorex MKS-SS1 SingStand Home Karaoke System

Now this is technically not a kiddie karaoke machine, but I just had to include it because of the number of buyers who have purchasing it for their kids. It's a pretty popular product.

I have to say this is my favorite one. It's a great karaoke machine that just offers so much functionality and control as compared to other kids karaoke machines on the market.

What's unique about this machine is that you can just insert your iPod or any MP3 player into the supporting jack and sing to your music. No having to fuss with buying special karaoke CDs or downloading music to te machine. It's great!

This MKS-SS1 offers excellent control over each vocal performance too. You can add echo effects to enhance the voice and even lower the vocals on the original song so that you can hear your child as they sing along.

There's the facility to plug in a second mic - great for getting get your kids singing duets with their siblings or even with you. You can even plug in additional instruments such as an electric guitar and keyboard, so your child can start their own little band!

The sound this piece of kit puts out from its speakers, which are located in the base, offers a far more superior quality to other karaoke machines in its class. Your child will look and feel as though they were a real pop or rock star performing with professional equipment. Imagine how much your child's confidence will grow? And what a pleasure it will be to see your little one strutting their stuff with pride.

One downside to this karaoke machine is that you don't have a lot of room to view the lyrics. According to some reviewers this hasn't affected their ability to enjoy this machine.

Also do be aware that while there is an adjustable stand, it may not be short enough for very small children to use.

If you can live with those downfalls then this will make a great kids karaoke machine. I love its advanced functionality with the iPod integration and the fact that you have better control over your vocals.

I would say this is the best karaoke machine for kids and my top recommendation for anyone considering buying one.

Suitable for toddlers to 90 year olds.

Now you know I think the Memorex MKS-SS1 SingStand Home Karaoke System is the best karaoke machine for kids. What do you think? Don't be shy, do tell.
