Kurio Android Tablet for Kids

Updated on January 14, 2016

Kurio Tablet Review - Finally a Great Android Tablet for Kids

The Kurio Android Tablet at last a tablet both parents and kids love! Be sure to read this review before investing in another electronic device for your children or grandchildren.

As an avid promoter of children's literacy I am always on the look-out for products to help children learn easier while still having fun. I believe that when children are engaged in their learning activities our job as mentors and parents becomes a tad easier.

The digital age with its incredible onslaught of educational, interactive tools and toys has brought welcomed guidance to children of various ages and learning levels.

The newly released Kurio Android Tablet by Inspiration Works is one such product and so much more than a toy; it is a Wi-Fi enabled tablet computer, e-reader, music player, and game device all rolled into one. It is such a refreshing new tablet that the Kindle Fire design team should take note. Allow me to share with you why the Kurio Tablet gets a thumbs-up from me in this review.

A Look at the Kurio Tablet and Why I Like It

Grown-up Look and Design with Kid-Proofing - The look and functionality of the Kurio is very much like your iPad

Similar to an iPad with its responsive touch screen, vibrant image quality, and ease of use. The high-resolution 7" Kurio comes with a built-in microphone, webcam, Wi-Fi, HDMI, and USB connections.

I like that this tablet looks more like what the grown-ups use instead of another toy which makes it inviting for children of many ages. The sleek, slim brushed metal design will appeal to kids around the ages of 9 - 12 and lend itself more to learning and not just playtime.

Plan on spending some time to set-up your Kurio before turning it over to the kids, it will need to be charged when first unboxed, the Wi-Fi will need to be connected, and you will want to set up your Parental Controls and Children's profiles before they dig in.

Drop-Safe Bumper - Has your child ever dropped your iPad?

Kids will be kids so protecting your investment is important. I read a review from a mother who mentioned that her child dropped the Kurio with Bumper out a window onto the concrete pavement below and the tablet survived unscathed.

As seen in the picture above the Kurio is packed with a colorful, resilient silicone case to keep the unit safe and sound. The case can be removed for older kids or when you wish to use it.

Access to the Vast Android 4.0 Market - Upgradeable Apps at your Finger Tips

The Kurio is the first children's tablet to operate on an Android platform which instantly sets it apart from the standard LeapFrog or LeapPad type interface.

The market for Android Apps is ever expanding which opens the door to an almost unlimited supply of new programs, games, videos, and music downloadable from compatible sources all of which are curated by Kurio to be family friendly and kid safe.

This is definitely a Value-Add! It allows the Kurio to grow as your child learns, grows, and improves their skills.

Safe Internet Surfing with Parental Controls - Control what your children see and where they browse

The Kurio has the most secure solution in children's devices today. Better yet you can set up controls differently for each child.

You can configure 8 customizable and unique profiles which means that every child and yourself can have their own profile. This is perfect for families whose children are 3 or 4 years apart since there are items suited for 10 year olds that would not be appropriate for a 4 or 5 year old.

Via the Password-protected Parental area you set up web-filtering and safe lists, block websites, and videos so your children don't stumble upon inappropriate sites. No more unfriendly language, actions, or unwelcome invitations. There is even a watchful-eye type service to notify you of new Internet items before your child sees them.

Last but not least, you can set Time Controls should you wish to limit their Kurio use or to prevent kids sneaking access after bedtime.

Are You Concerned About What Your Kids See On-Line?

So are many parents, it can be difficult to supervise everything our kids have access to today and not all devices allow us to control their viewing. With the Kurio you have complete control of where they can browse, what internet sites they can view, and even the hours they can use their Kurio Tablet. Check out these parental reviews to put your mind at ease.

IMPORTANT NOTE! Please do not be swayed by the review on Amazon, it seems the previous listing for the Kurio Android Tablet for Kids has been removed, it listed many satisfied comments like those listed below and I still believe in this product.

The Kurio was a gift from my parents to our 10 year old son - He absolutely loves it - and so do we. From our point of view, we love the fact that we can control what content he sees, when he sees it and for how long (that is a GREAT feature!).

. . . . looked around for a while trying to find the best kid friendly interactive tablet and this was the best choice! It's great for kids and very easy to use. We bought it for my 4 year old daughter and she hasn't put it down since we gave it to her. It has all the games but also the educational ones as well! For the price it is def the best!

We love it. The kids love it! We shopped around online for a safe, fun tablet for our kids (aged 5, 7). I set it up in a couple of minutes and our son and daughter immediately began playing with it.

I Give The Kurio Tablet an A-

A superb, interactive tablet for kids because of its outstanding blend of fun, educational apps and games, partnered with splendid parental controls. But it could be a tad easier to set up.
