Magic the Gathering Players Championship 2012

The Magic The Gathering Players Championship is held on the 29-31 of August. 16 players including hall of famers like Brian Kibbler, Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa and Jon Finkel newer players such as Alexander Hayne and of course the Player of the Year Owen Turtenwald. The full list of participants at the MTG Players Championship is an incredible lineup and should provide viewers with and amazing viewing experience.

On the final day of the Championship (friday the 31st of August) we will see the semifinals between Shouta Yasooka and Jon Finkel as well as Yuuya Watanabe against Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa. Both semifinals and the final will be shown live

Shouta Yasookas blue deck with a splash of red and green got him to top 4. Can it carry him all the way to the final?

The deck is built around the Aether Vial. Get the enchantment down as early as possible and start playing free creatures (more specifically the Snapcaster Mage) while circumventing counter spells.

Another good use for the Aether Vial is the combination with Huntmaster of the Fell. Because no spell is cast to put it into play, it can basically transform the turn it comes into play.

Finkels deck didn't stand a chance against Yasookas deck and was beaten 3 to null. Still the Hall of Famer pulled off some really neat MTG stunts in the 3 battles that lead to his eventual defeat. One of the gems was to use Remand on his own newly cast Vendilion Clique when this was countered by Yasooka. That way not only did he save his creature, he also got a card to put him ahead.
