Reflections on Collections

Some people collect salt and pepper sets while others collect fine art and still others collect pennies. In this lens, my original poems take us on an exploration of the world of Collections and Collecting.

Along the way, I'll also offer a few books and other fun items about collecting.

One Man's Junk

One man's junk is another's treasure

So collecting is a fine endeavor

Gives you something when you have leisure

Looking for that perfect whatever

I like to collect things

And store them away

Some joy it brings

On a rainy day

But sometimes i stash

More things for later when

I won't need cash

To buy them once again

At the Flea Market

I go to the flea markets that don't sell fleas

In search of a Wedgwood completer piece

To rummage through tables with olio choices

And ignore the haranguing hawker voices

Oh, these are darling soup spoon rests

They entice me to collect them; such pests

Perhaps that quiet vendor over there

Has what I'm searching for; so rare

The sun is strong on the tarmac here

But I'm impervious to the heat, my dear

For when I am on a collecting mission

I'm focused and thorough on the expedition

On Ebay

Ebay is a possible way to sell or buy your stuff

Consider selling there, when you have quite enough

Likewise, if you are looking for a statue of a Greek

Someone in the webosphere may have just what you seek

Beer Bottle Collection

Bottles I had that used to hold beer

Fifteen boxes they were stored in

Some were brown glass and some were clear

Once displayed on the shelves of our kitchen

They were mostly bombers from craft brewers

A few of them had pretty porcelain caps

American, European, some from Coors

Touching each other, we had no gaps

I don't acquire any bottles these days

But, if I saw one with an artistic label

I'd be tempted to restart my collecting ways

To showcase them on the hall table

Another Poem on Collecting

A Messy Desk

Please give me an idea

Of what has brought you here
