Updated on October 11, 2014

A Buying Guide to the Best Play Tents

Pacific Play Tents vs Discovery Kids Adventure Play Tents which one will give your kids hours of imaginative play and which one will give you a huge disappointment? Well to be honest kids absolutely love both indoor play tents that really isn't the issue, what you'll find though is that there is a huge difference in quality - I'll let you know what I have discovered from my experience with both Pacific Play tents and Discovery Kids Adventure play tents as well as review a few other play tents worth mentioning.

If you are looking to buy a play tent, either a Pacific play tent, Discovery Kids, or even another hot play tent right now the Super Duper Play Tent take a look below because I'll give you the skinny on each style. Bottom line is a play tent is one of those toys your kids will love for a very long time in a land far far away (and right in your own home too) so you really can't go wrong, but there are a few things to look out for.

Many Adventures with Kids Play Tents

Play Tents provide some creative indoor activities for kids

I have to say if you are looking for creative indoor activities for kids play tents are an amazing find. As I look into our play room I see two play tents that are a fairly permanent fixture - we have a couple more and miles of kids play tents tunnels tucked away in the closet. They are the one toy that never seems to go out of style - whether it is playing babies, or princesses, or even a plain old picnic the kids just love them. (and you know what - they sure do keep them busy so I can get some work done - or heaven forbid relax and read a book - shh don't tell.)

There are so many fun play tents released each year - I'm sure I can keep busy featuring more play tents and play tent reviews in case you need some time to yourself... stay tuned and we'll see if we can't get you some time to read a book or two.

This super cute caterpillar play tent tunnel is one of my favorites - the kids have a blast crawling through and around a bright wiggly caterpillar. This would make a fun addition to the Lady Bug play tent above.

Discovery Kids Adventure Play Tent - Most Searched for Kids Play Tent

The Discovery Kids Adventure play tent is the most searched for play tent on the market right now - it looks great, kids absolutely love it.... but. Unfortunately it is a big but - the thing just doesn't last. I don't like to be all doom and gloom about a product that obviously lets kids explore their creative sides, and many who purchase this Discovery Kids play tent I'm sure have no troubles at all but from what I've seen and read you'll be better off spending a little bit more to have a quality play tent or end up searching for discovery kids adventure play tent replacement poles.

Some issues with the Discovery Kids play tent:

• Bent or broken poles

• Thin easily ripped fabric

• Poor tunnel alignment

• Segmented plastic poles tend to snap apart

These are still super fun cute tents for kids to play in but here is one reviewers experience that is worth noting:

"I purchased this tent and tunnel for my grandson who just turned one year old. He absolutely loved it but in less than 2 weeks the poles were bent towards the top. As I was putting it together I noticed how easily it was going to be to bend the poles and sure enough it happened."

It is quite possible they have fixed the issues with this product since this review was left so it is always best to take a look at current reviews and make your own buying decision.

"After having to throw out our last play tent (a different brand) due to broken poles and snapped lines this is a dream! Sets up in seconds and the "clean up" is just as easy. Durable enough to stand up to my busy kids ages 2, 4, and 6! Wish we had gotten this one the first time. We love it!"

Pacific Play Tents Super Duper 4 Kids Tent - A durable fun easy to set up play tent

Ok, you've seen the Discovery Kids play tent - now step into a whole new world of kids play tents. A world where your child is safe in a land of his or her own choosing (without the risk of snapping poles doing bodily harm), a land uninterrupted by collapsing tents (which may be fun to play cave-in but not if your child doesn't like confined spaces), a land your kids will enjoy for hours, days and even years (hey my wife and I play just as hard in our play tents as the kids). Let me show you Pacific Play Tents. They have many indoor and outdoor play tents or they can be used for both, in many different and creative styles - here is one of their basic play tents (and currently one of the most popular on Amazon). Here are the specs, but you'll really get a feel for these tents by reading the reviews at Amazon. Enjoy!

• Size: About 5' x 5' x 4' high

• Sturdy shock-corded poles for easy assembly

• Perfect companion for any trip to the beach, park, lake, backyard or even basement

• Cleans easily with a damp cloth and mild soap

Half the fun is adding tunnels to your tents (imagine a whole network of tunnels to crawl through) This one is a nice vivid blue with contrasting yellow stripe - and extra fun because it has the "peek out" window which is fun for peek-a-boo.

Our kids just love their play tents - we went with the Pacific play tent (the lady bug one) and they have such a blast with it. I hadn't heard of the Discovery Kids one but I'm super happy with the Pacific.
