Play Kitchens for Toddlers: A Parent Review of the Best Toy Kitchens

Updated on June 11, 2014

Play Kitchens for Toddlers

A play kitchen set makes a great gift for small kids, because it encourages all sorts of creative pretend play. You'll find the fun and exciting kids play kitchens here. I have selected the best kids play kitchens, included reviews and even added a couple demonstration videos. Here you can compare the features on all the toy kitchens so you can make an informed decision and choose the one your kids will love.

I have three kids and they all love playing with their kitchen. It provides them with hours of imaginative play. They enjoy using it to play house where "mom" (my oldest daughter) cooks nutritious meals for "dad" (my son) and "baby" (my youngest). They also use it to play restaurant, which is lots of fun. They'll come to my husband and I and take our orders (using a marker to scribble on a notepad) and then go to their kitchen to cook our food. They always make us pay the bill; thank goodness they accept pretend money.

My kids play with their toy kitchen set every day. They use it to play house, restaurant, and pizza parlor.

This is the Best Play Kitchen for Kids

My kids love the Melissa and Doug wodden kitchen

The Melissa and Doug Deluxe Kitchen is a sturdy wooden play kitchen that will last for years of pretend kitchen fun. Although a bit pricey, this is a kitchen set that has great safety features and is durable as it is attractive.

This is the kitchen we have for our kids. We bought it for Christmas four years ago. It has been a great gift that they all have fun with. All three of our kiddos love it, ages 7 years, 5 years, and 4 years. There is something on this play set that entertains each of them. What I appreciate most is that it is super must be in order to survive my rough 5 year old son. One of the nicest features of this toy kitchen is that all of the corners on it are rounded, something that really gives me peace of mind.

In my opinion, it's the best kitchen for kids. It's fun, sturdy, and safe. What more could you want in a wooden play kitchen? Click the picture to see more product details and to read all of the positive parent reviews.

Wood Kitchens for Toddlers - Sturdy wooden toy kitchens will last for years

Wooden kitchens are heavy and sturdy. They are too heavy for your kid to move or knock over. They look and feel more like a real kitchen and will provide your kids with years of pretend play. The only con to a wooden kitchen set vs a plastic set is that if you have more than one small child they can shut each other's fingers in the doors.

My two year old and four year old fight like cats and dogs and I knew that without good parenting they would slam the heavy wood doors on each other, but we still decided to buy them a wooden kitchen. My boy is way too rough with toys for a plastic play kitchen set. He would break the parts off of a plastic kitchen and maybe even knock it over since he loves to climb. We've had the Melissa and Doug wooden play kitchen for over a year now and it looks brand new still. It is surviving the wear and tear of three kids just fine.

Not for our kids. But go back many years and I do remember having one when I was young. There was the stove and the storage cabinet right next to it. And the words tin or aluminum come to mind. Either way they were metal.

Toddlers love role playing. We actually have a fort in our yard that is well-loved. Our play kitchen was also well-loved. Many, many tea parties.

Play kitchens are such a great activity for both boys and girls to start learning life skills at play. Many preschools and kindergartens have housekeeping rooms that are very popular to get a turn in.

Thanks for the helpful lens. We're currently looking at various play kitchens trying to decide which is best. We both really like the wooden Kidcraft ones so we'll probably end up with one of those although that Melissa & Doug one looks really nice too. Plastic just doesn't seem like it would be stable or remotely durable but good point about the kids potentially shutting their fingers in the wooden doors too...geesh, so many choices! I love the accessories for these things though. I saw a wooden kids sushi set the other which is just adorable. Anyway, thanks for the lens, it has been very helpful.

My son loves playing in the kitchen. There is one at the wellness center my wife teaches zumba at and every time we go in to get him, he's over there at the little kitchen cooking something for us. dumping seasonings in everything...hahaha.

Good is so much fun, and is a creat family activity!
