I Love Signs that are Different
Collecting photos of these can easily become a hobby!
In the centre where our business is situated, they've used the antique metal casting look for all their signs and lights. The sign on top of one of these indicating where the exit is, is very eye-catching and different, especially in our area in Southern Africa where everything is modern and square.
It reminded me of a visit to Havre de Grace in Maryland 20 odd years ago when we were in the States and I fell in love with the carved and painted signboards there!
Because I love texture and am a visual type of person, the impact of artistic and thoughtful signs appeal to me.
We've got our own type of special signage here in some of our rural areas and I would love to drive around and photograph them to make a different type of collection! If I had the time to do this, it could so easily become a hobby, not even a thought! At the moment I snap them if I see them, otherwise I spend some time online every now and then to look for intriguing signs and now have here to post them as part of my inspiring collection.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Our Business Sign - Letters were cut from a Railway Sleeper
You can see our office from up the road and the top of the building above the entrance was the perfect place to have our name on. From the very beginning when I looked at it, I envisioned the name in wooden cut-out letters. The railway sleeper we ended up using was made from jarra wood, which is extremely hard to cut, but we eventually found someone who was prepared to do it for us!
It turned out really well and looks great!

Decoy Duck Museum - in Havre de Grace

This is the type of sign that inspired me originally! The whole of Havre de Grace on the Chesapeake Bay is very quaint and we stayed at some of my ex-husband's yachtie friends in a marina. They were friends with the owners of the Decoy Museum and said we absolutely HAVE to see it.
So they contacted their friends who then specially opened the museum for us on a Sunday as we were going to leave early the Monday morning again! We had a personal tour through this privately owned gorgeous museum. What an amazing experience and what awesome people!
