1- Call Of Duty

Series Containing A Number Of Action/War Games

Call Of Duty of Duty began its life on the PC in 2003 before gaining extensive popularity and branching out to all platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation and the Wii. The game is owned by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward primarily. The games originally focused their attention on the happenings of World War II as is seen in Call Of Duty, Call Of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3 and at the start of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The games have since moved on to encompass modern day battles and battle fields and also near future events. Also as the games have progressed the player has had the ability to commandeer numerous vehicles both airborne, sea and land, whilst also gaining the opportunity to utilise some amazing weaponry such as missile guidance system in orbit over Earth.

Call of Duty Boasts over 120 Million in sales, with over 50 Million active monthly on-line players, making it one of the most popular games for on-line and offline game play. It has a very addictive prestige system that allows you to gain ranking from winning battles on line, while earning achievements off-line. All these factors together clearly show why Call Of Duty Has earned the number one spot and has retained it.

Call of Duty: Ghosts - Xbox 360

Released In November 2013, this is the latest Call Of Duty game and in my opinion is the best yet, they just get better and better. It is the tenth in the series.

It has both on-line and offline game play, with millions of monthly active users to play against. This game makes it very difficult to get bored!

Looks pretty amazing huh? Wait until you get to play it for your self, its a whole new era of warfare game!

2- Battlefield

Series Containing Numerous Action/War Titles

Battlefield was first released in September 2002. They are made by EA games. Battlefield made its début on the PC and branched out to other platforms over time as a result of a growing popularity. It has been played by over 60 Million Players and is one of the most popular and most frequently played games in this genre.

There are over 10 Games and Extension Packs in the series and this number is frequently increasing, making it a good option for those who are impatient and don't like waiting for the next instalment.

Unlike other game in this genre, Battlefield's game play consists of large maps and a wide use of vehicles.

Similar to Call Of Duty, Battlefield, has a class or rank system that allows the unlocking of a different arsenal of weaponry as you move along in your class, this allows for a more competitive experience.

However despite it's popularity Battlefield has remained (and probably will stay) second to Call Of Duty, both on-line and offline, however I do highly recommend playing it as it has everything you want in a game, it's just no Call Of Duty.

This game should be your first choice when looking for something to play when you have mastered Call Of Duty.

Battlefield 4 - Xbox 360

This Instalment of Battlefield is the next generation in first person shooter games. This game really gives even Call Of Duty a run for its money, and that is saying something!

Its full of realistic missions, weaponry and vehicles, amazing is an understatement!

You will not want to put the controller down.

This installment of Battlefield again is in competition with the likes of Call Of Duty, but my opinion is they have finally levelled the playing field, for now!

3-Medal Of Honor

Series Of Action/War Titles

Medal Of Honor is again a first person shooter similar to the first games I have mentioned. It first surfaced in 1999 after being created by EA for PlayStation . As a result of this, and the popularity that it gained, Medal Of Honor expanded to other platforms and many new games and expansion backs were made. The script to the first game was written by Steven Spielberg.

The series provides a great single player experience and a multi-player experience somewhat like that in Call Of Duty.

This series of games follows World War II but later expands to modern events, similar to Call of Duty. There are now 14 games in the series with the most recent being Medal of Honor: Warfighter. This game has a sense of authenticity as it was wrote by real U.S tier 1 operators and was inspired by actual events, this in my opinion adds greatly to the game.

However the artificial intelligence in the games in my opinion is quite poor but has improved as the series progressed. The games do offer some in game choice as to how the story goes but apart from that it is pretty standard game play.

Last Year it was announced due to the slow sales of Medal Of Honor: Warfighter, the series will be stopped. However despite this announcement and lack of sales, I recommend playing this latest instalment.

The series may have been stopped but I still recommend trying this game, as in my opinion it is still a classic game of this genre and it is worth adding to your collection.

The Single Player Campaign continues from where the previous game left off, however playing the previous games is not a must.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter Trailer

This game is a classic and I recommend that anybody who likes this genre try it.

Just by watching this video, you will see what I mean.

4- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

A War/Action series of titles.

This series was first released in 2001, with Ubisoft as developers.

It follows a team of U.S special forces known as ghosts, who part take in highly classified covert operations.

The object of the game as the player is to complete these highly classified( and well written and designed) covert operations. The graphics are superior to most games in its league and I would recommend this title to anyone who asks.

The game features both on-line and offline play. However my honest opinion is that this game is superior in its single player offline play.

As of today Ghost Recon has gained extremely high (70+) ratings on all consoles apart from the Wii. It is available on Xbox, PlayStation and the Nintendo as well.

The single player mode in this game will keep you on the edge of your seat for hours on end. If you want a gripping story line and graphics to match, this is the game you want.

This game is second after second of excitement, you will not want to put your controller down, the offline play is truly brilliant.

5- Halo

Series of Action/War titles

The Halo series surfaced in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved, from here Microsoft used marketing campaigns to boost its popularity and the success continued from there. Almost 50 Million copies of the games have been sold worldwide.

The in game play is based around a war between the covenant (aliens) and the humans. The player plays as Master Chief a super soldier who is part of the human faction.

Halo in my opinion has one of the best single player modes, with a massive array of vehicles and weaponry at your disposal throughout the game. The graphics are brilliant while the missions are even better. When you do get to the end of the campaign the on-line play is full of game modes that will keep you playing for hours on end.

My personal favourite of all the Halo games to date, it incorporates the great single player mode along with the use of all the things I love such as the ability to commandeer the vehicles an almost every weapon you see, it adds a great element to the realism.

As you can see from the trailer, the graphics for Halo are beyond this world, the game play is awesome and will keep you gripped for hours on end .

6- Gears Of War

Series with War/Action/Military Based Titles

Gears of War first surfaced in 2006 when developed by Epic Games and Published by Microsoft Games Studios. It was initially released solely on the Xbox platform but a PC version was released a year later. Gears Of War currently stands as the 5th best selling Xbox game and it has won several "Game of the Year awards" in the past. Its history clearly shows straight away that this is a game your going to want to play.

The in game story follows the Delta Squad during their campaign which is centred on the fictional planet of Sera. The main story line encompasses a battle against the Locust Horde in an attempt to save the human life.

Again the single player here is amazing, but you can also play on-line with up-to 8 other players, if playing on-line with 8 friends doesn't call for entertainment then i don't know what does!

I my self loved this game, it was a great change from the repetitive Human Being based war games.

Gears Of War Judgement

Gears of War: Judgment

The Newest Instalment, this game left me wanting and waiting for more.

It is not a necessity to have played previous games so if you are use to standard warfare games, there's no reason you shouldn't give this one a try.

This video shows you exactly what I mean, this game is great. It does have its flaws like anything, but I would sit down and play this anyday no problem. The graphics, script and game play are second to none.

7- Singularity

Singularity is a game that has slipped through the cracks, but is actually top 10 worthy. It was developed by Ravensoft and published by Activision.

The plot follows a member of a U.S platoon who was sent to investigate an island called Katorga-12. After an electro magnetic surge he starts to phase between 1955 and the present, and the campaign unfolds in both eras. The campaign centres around an attempt to stop history from changing.

This game incorporates the use of the usual array of weaponry but also some amazing ideas such as a rifle with guided bullets and a time manipulation device(tmd). The script is amazing and the graphic detail is one step ahead of most games out there.

This game has two modes of multi player as well. One is simply called creatures V Soldiers and is basically the equivalent of CoD's team death match while the other mode is called Extermination, this involves trying to secure areas of the island.

All in all this game is overlooked but brilliant, it deserves more credit and I recommend it to any body looking for a great campaign and an interesting change.

8- Chrysis

Series based on Action/War genre

Chrysis was first brought out in 2007 and was developed by Crytek and published by EA. This game in my opinion brought the Graphical design up a notch, it is amazing.

The campaign of the game is somewhere in the future, you are a soldier armed with an arsenal of futuristic weapons, and are sent to investigate an alien structure. The game is very interactive and the player can change weapon settings, suit settings among other things during the game play, this in my opinion makes for a great game play experience.

Not only is there a wide array of futuristic weapons but there are also a range of vehicles too, which as I have mentioned earlier, I love.

There is also a multi player option that allows 32 players to play a death match mode or a mode where both sides have to battle for control or power.

9- F.E.A.R

This game is again a first person shooter. It is developed by Monolith Productions and published in 2005 by Vivendi Universal.

The campaign revolves around supernatural beings and you as the player become part of an Elite U.S squad whose has the job of contain said being. You as the player possess superhuman reflexes which I think adds a fun element to the game.

The multi player game play consists of the usual modes such as death match and capture the flag. Both Online and offline play in my opinion are brilliant in this game.

10- Brothers In Arms

Series based on World War II

Brothers In Arms was first released in 2005 and has been developed for all platforms from Iphone, Xbox and PlayStation to the PC.

It follows different chapters in the war efforts of World War II. The games are both interesting and action packed. You are usually in command on 1-3 Man teams throughout the missions.

It is quite similar to the idea of Call of Duty and Battlefield but I would not rank it nearly as good, however in saying that it is a great game.
