Updated on January 5, 2012

Best Kinect Games of 2012

The best Kinect games of 2012 can all be found here with related videos of actual game play, reviews and price comparisons of major online retailers.

The new motion activated controller system for the Xbox 360 titled Kinect (formerly Project Natal) promises to bring the active , family and group centered game play of the Wii to a whole new level. Combined with the superior game play and network interactivity of the Xbox 360 the Kinect system and related games has proven to be a big hit in the gaming industry this year and for many to come.

The Kinect motion console was released in November 2010 , the console adds the features of full body tracking and voice recognition to any existing Xbox 360 system. Most are bundled with the Kinect Adventures game which is intended to showcase the functionality of the Kinect system. Using the Xbox360's network capabilities combined with the cameras of the kinect system will also allow for real time photo and video uploads to Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Complete XBox 360 Kinect Bundles

Newcomers to the xBox360 market will do well to look for price breaks on complete console bundles that include the Kinect and a Kinect game. Kinect Games can also be played with traditional controllers although their seems little reason to ever do such a thing.

Actual Kinect Game Play

Kinect Adventures

Similar to the concept of the Wii Sports game pack, the Kinect Adventures game shows off all the features and capabilities of the Kinect system. 20 different adventures are available on the game,  Rally Ball, Outer Space, Under Water,  Roaring rapids and many more.

This is the perfect game to provide variety for a fun evening with the family and the skills can be easily mastered by even brand new users to home video gaming.

Your Shape:Fitness Evolved for Kinect

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved is the perfect excuse to convince your significant other that you need a Xbox360 in your home. This game comes with complete training programs led by celebrity trainers. Also available are Yoga classes, Tai Chi classes and Martial Arts classes.

Your Shape: Fitness Evolved was a big hit at the 2010 e3 convention and was created specifically for the Kinect format. The integration is seamless and one can quickly forget they are following along with a game. Exercise for the whole family was never so cool and as I mentioned, at the very least you can pick up the xbox360 kinect system and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved as a ruse while you secretly wait for the new Star Wars Game (Light Sabers anyone ?)

The game comes with hundreds of exercises and the ability to download additional exercise as they are created, this game promises to stay fresh for quite awhile.

EA Sports Active 2.0 for Kinect

EA Sports Active is a successful game franchise on the Wii and now for the Kinect. The popularity of the game extends to an online section of the EA Sports site where players create their own personal 6 Week challenges and record how much weight they have lost while using the EA Sports Active system for exercise.

Exercise modules include:

  • Water Skiing
  • Step Aerobics
  • Cardio Boxing
  • Crunch and Punch

A More Workouts add-on is available for further exercises as is an accessory pack with resistance bands. The EA Sports Active system boasts a complete virtual trainer and a fully customizable, trackable exercise program.

Dance Central for Kinect

This game is by Harmonix, same makers as Rock band, so you know the game play is solid.

Keeping with the active, exercise orientated game play, Dance Central for KINECT offers choreographed dance game play one may be used to with Dance Dance Revolution, but a game pad is no longer necessary and the position of your arms can be recognized by the Kinect controller!

The soundtrack is all top popular music and the choreographed dances were created by top professionals.

Check out the video, professional dancers and overweight geeks can both enjoy this game.

Kinectimals for Kinect

Kinectimals brings the virtual pet to a whole new level. This is the perfect game for young children, expansion packs include plush animals that can be bought offline and then scanned bringing the animal into the Kinectimals world!

Kinect Joy Ride

Watch the video, notice how simple it is to switch between players. This feature works across all Kinect Games. Simply walk in and out of play area in order to switch between players.

well musclestud, lol, perhaps you look deeper into what a "system" is - its is a whole made up of parts = so the kinect is indeed a system. Words had meanings before video game consoles were invented.
