Best Train Toys for Toddlers
About The Best Train Toys For Toddlers
Trains for toddlers make great toys and there are a variety of different train themed toys on the market.
There are train themed books, DVDs and lego sets as well as wooden train sets, motorised trains and remote control trains. The list is endless.
My 2 1/2 year old son is train mad and this article highlights and reviews a lot of toys he loves to play with and more. He especially loves his wooden train sets which he asks to play with everyday. He also loves Thomas and friends. Read on to learn more about trains for toddlers.
Wooden Train Sets For Toddlers
My 2 year old son plays for ages with his wooden train set. He puts all the pieces together to make the track (sometimes with a little help) and then he will push the trains around. I think the train sets with magnetic trains are the best as my son will spend a long time fixing all the trains together in a line and then pushing them around. There are lots of great wooden train sets on the market. Brio train sets are at the top end for quality and durability. But, you can't go wrong with a Melissa and Doug train set for great value. Check them out below:
Thomas The Tank Engine Train Sets.
Toddlers love Thomas the tank engine. Buying a Thomas the tank engine train set can be expensive but it is an investment rather than a fleeting purchase. Buying a good Thomas train set means that your toddler may be playing with it almost everyday from 18 months to 3 or 4 year old and then they will still play with it on occasion when they are school age.
Fisher Price Thomas Take and Play sets are designed with an easy-fold set-up. This means that they are easily put away and stored and you can easily transport them to friends and family's houses.
Thomas Trackmaster Train Set
Another alternative of train sets for toddlers is the Thomas trackmaster sets. They are motorised railways with motorised engines.
Train Books for Toddlers
There are lots of train themed books that toddlers will love. Here are a selection of a few of my top choices.
Train Set Table for Toddlers
Train set tables are great for endless hours of play. They keep the playtime mess off the floor and at children's level. They normally come with their own train set. Most of them have good storage facilities so as well as being a toy they are great for storing all trains, accessories and other toys when they aren't being used. Some of the train set tables can be used for other play too such as with cars. Some of them have table tops which can be pulled over the train set and used for drawing. They are a great addition to any toy collection. Check out some of the options below.
Lego Duplo Train Sets
Lego Duplo are the lego sets with bigger blocks and they are great for little toddler hands. Lego has all kinds of themed sets including train sets. They are great because you can work with your toddler to put the sets together and then they will have great fun pushing trains around the track. As your little one gets older they will learn to build the tracks and accessories themselves.
Here are a couple of good lego duplo starter kits.
Great Toy Trains for Toddlers
There are some toy trains that you can just push around the house or outside and don't need a track. The Melissa and Doug Stacking train has educational value and is particularly good for younger toddlers and the toddlers can use their imaginations with the wooden farm train. Thomas fans will also love the Thomas play set.
Train Jigsaw Puzzles
There are some great train themed jigsaw puzzles which are perfect for toddlers.
Jigsaw puzzles are great to help fine motor skills, hand eye co-ordination and develop early problem solving skills. They are great to do with your toddler as well. In fact they may need some help at first but it's a nice project to work on together.
