View-Master reels peer into local history

In the mid-1950s, James Noel McConnell, the owner of a local photo store and Richmond’s photographer of the day, started snapping photos with a View-Master Personal Stereo Camera. The camera created photo reels that could be seen in 3-D with a special viewer, which later became a popular binocular-like toy packaged with mass-produced reels.

Thanks to a recent donation from the family of the late photographer, the City of Richmond Archives now has 44 View-Master photo reels of scenes from 1954 to 1958.

      I had a red one in the 70's with Disney's reels. I am surprise they are still making them
