Updated on October 3, 2014

How Well Do You Know French Wines?

Most of us love French wines and the romanticism connected with them, but when it comes to the quiz crunch - are you able to differentiate between Bordeaux and Burgundy or tell the difference between sweet wines and dessert wines?

It doesn't matter how much or how little you know about wine, just join in here and have a go on this oenological excursion into the French countryside and its 'terroir'.

Love Champagne?

Bet you do! But do you know how it is made and from which grapes it comes from, and all the bottle sizes?

Largest Wine Producing Country

Based on 2011 volumes

France overtook Italy to become the worlds largest producer of wine based on statistical information from the International Organization of Wine and Vine in 2012. They'll most likely return to second place in 2013 as the 2012 harvest in France was exceptionally poor.

In 2011, wine production figures were 49.633 million hectoliters of wine made in France, 41,580 mha made in Italy, and USA came in fourth after Spain with a volume of 18.740 mhl.

Yields of wine worldwide are at an all time low due to extreme weather conditions that reduced or damaged crops.
