10 Challenges - Try one, for Just one day!

Updated on July 2, 2014

Mobile Phones and Health

1. Can you live without your mobile phone for just one day?

Mobile phones use microwave radiation to communicate. Left Picture – thermographic image of the head with no exposure to harmful mobile phone radiation. Right Picture – Image of the head after a 15 minute phone call. Yellow and red areas indicate thermal (heating) effects that can cause negative health effects.

Benefit: Give your brain cells a break from radiation.

2. Can you go without judging someone or situations for just one day?

When you are constantly evaluating and analysing, you create a lot of turbulence in your internal dialogue. Non-judgement creates silence in your mind.

Benefit: Your mind is a quieter. A quiet mind is a very powerful and creative tool.

3. Can you live without your TV for just one day?

With Satellite now, we have 101 channels. It can be difficult to pull yourself away from the Telly. (Sometimes, I wish I had a multi-screen so I could watch 5 channels at the same time) News, Films, talkshows, Soaps, music videos, sports etc…

Benefit: You shut out all the negative / bad news and you are also able to use your time more productively.

4. Can you eat only fruits for just one day?

Fruit is good for you (particularly organic fruit) and it reduces the risk of various diseases.

Benefit: Apart from helping you lose weight it will detoxify your system and you will look radiant.

5. Can you go without swearing for just one day?

This is hard particularly if you’re a driver, but just let it go. Don’t let anyone get on your nerves.

Benefit: You don’t get agitated and you keep your karma circle positive.

6. Can you go without wearing make-up for just one day?

(probably weekends or when you are not going to work)

Benefit: Allows your skin to breathe.

7. Can you do without your car for just one day?

A lot of kids live within walking distance of their schools but parents still drive them to and fro. This is where Obesity starts in some children. OK, you want to ensure their safety - then, how about walking with them?

Benefit: Less Pollution in the air. Good exercise for you and the kids.

8. Can you go without smoking for just one day?

Whats in a cigarette? Acetone – found in nail removers, Ammonia – found in cleaning fluids, Arsenic – a poison used in insecticides, Formaldehyde – used to preserve dead bodies, Cadmium – a metal used in batteries, Tar and carbon monoxide etc.

Benefit: Need I say?

9. Can you go without getting angry for just one day?

Whatever anyone does to upset you, just react calmly. Easier said than done but just smile at them, even though you might want to give them a piece of your mind. I’ve discovered that if someone annoys you first thing in the morning, it could just put you in a foul mood for the rest of the day – if you let it. So stay Cool, Calm and Collected.

Benefit: Peaceful and focused mind.

Credit Cards

10. Can you leave your credit card or should I say “cards” at home for one day?

How about leaving that poor card alone for one day? I have found it useful, leaving my cards at home and just taking a Debit card. Otherwise, I'd come back home with lots of shopping bags.

Benefit: Stops you buying on impulse and obviously saves you money.

Finally, I would have asked if you could go without your computer or laptop for one day but hey, if you did, I wouldn’t get to read the interesting Hubs you publish daily.

Thanks for stopping Amber. I personally think you use it in a safer way, but limit the time you use it, as it still emits radiation around you. Best Wishes.

Great challenge ideas.... I have a quick question related to # 1. I have a cellphone and use it daily. However I use it mostly for texting and using the Internet. I rarely make calls. Are these activities "safer" than making calls since the phone is not directly by your head? Just curious....

Thank you Lady E. In this electronic age it is so interesting to see how some people lose themselves in the world with i-pads,computers,wii games etc...I wonder when the last time someone actually took a walk and met a friend for lunch instead of just forwarding emails and texting someone :o).

Cheers Support Med - Good to know. You will have a car at a time you are not expecting one. It will be a nice surprise for you. That's my wish for you. :)

Currently no mobile phone. No car (wish I had one), no tv will be sort of hard (I love movies)--I can do the fruit only (especially on a really hot day when I won't feel much like consuming heavy foods anyway). I practice daily not judging anyone as I have learned the value of God's grace. And I guess I better find out what side the transmitter cell is on so I'll know better the next time I get a cell phone (I'll have to look into that one)--hope it's true. Voted-up/rated.

Great hub!!! Really makes you think about what is truly important or NOT!!! :-) I can and do go without most of those things daily and when I do, it feels sooooooooo good!!! We put ourselves to a challenge this week of NOT spending any money...and thus far we've done it...and it feels good!!!!

Mmmmh. That's interesting. Must give that a try. Thanks for sharing :)

I've heard it helps if you put the mobile on the same side as the transmitter cell so if you know where it is...the radiation doesn't have to go through your head!

I have a mobile phone, but I don't need it every day. I don't use to judge people or situations unless something is very unfair. I don't have a TV, I didn't look very much when having .one. I love fruits, so that wouldn't be a problem. I don't swear.I use make-up, but not every day. I often use my bike instead of the car. I don't smoke. People say that I should have reasons to be angry more often. I think that being angry doesn't solve any problem and you just feel bad yourself. I don't use my credit card every day.

I enjoyed reflecting on your challenges. I don't have a cell and disconnected my cable several years ago. I gave up swearing and learned how to deal with my anger when I became born again.I catch myself sometimes with judging others and find myself being corrected inwardly. Can't go without the car...I live five miles out of town in the country and about ten+ miles from work. Love fruit...that I could do. Don't smoke, don't have credit cards and don't wear make up hardly at all! Guess that does it. Thanks!

One picture is worth a thousand words. The thermoimage of the cell phone head was creepy - what a difference.

Interesting challenges - I don't think I'd want to tackle each one on the same day tho! LOL

I could go without all of them but number two. However, if I'm doing without the others I may not have a chance to judge anyone. Unless of course I start feeling righteous about my accomplishment and have to judge others for not doing the same.
