It may seem absurd to you, but to me it seems totally logical. During the past three months I have already joined in on the coloring book's for adults movement. I am a cheerful owner of a fresh set of Crayola colored pencils and many coloring books for adults of my own. I have always been a kid at heart and my coloring hobby justify's the point!

But seriously. There is logic behind the abundance of grownups buying these new coloring books for their own personal use.

Coloring Books for adults are a absolute stress exterminator!

1. Coloring is Mindful

Psychologists are actually suggesting that coloring as an adult is an extremely therapeutic activity to do. When you set your mind to coloring in tiny area, your mental clarity and awareness come through on the page of the coloring book instead of coming through as a form of worrying about life's little stresses. Coloring creates a sense of being mindful and being aware of only what are you doing at this point and in this moment

It might sound a little irrational to you, but please know that I felt the same way at first! When the day came that I actually tried coloring in my first coloring book for adults I can genuinely say that it has changed my life for the better. Adult coloring has calmed me down and performed miracles with my anxiety attacks, in fact it has stopped them right in their tracks. Who needs Prozac when you can have some good old colored pencils?

2. Coloring is as Beneficial as Meditation

Meditation is basically the art of doing nothing. It is also the art of "not" concentrating. This act helps us to relax and takes away the chatter of a restless mind. There are a great deal of people that find it difficult to meditate. This is where coloring pages can be especially convenient for adults. They are known to easily help induce the same meditative state as the known practice of meditation

Would you rather spend 20 minutes meditating or coloring?

4. Coloring is a Great Outlet for Creativity & Imagination

Working with all kinds of different colors, pictures, and patterns is an easy way to sharpen the creative muscles in your mind at the end of the day. Creativity has been known for battling anxiety. There are a vast amount of people out there who don't have the time to express themselves in a creative way at their jobs during the daytime. By the time they come home from work, they may be way too tired to start up in a serious or intricate creative project. That's where coloring books for adults can come to their rescue.

5. Coloring is Costless

DIY very admired these days but not everybody has a time to make their own things for their home. Most people don't have time to create ceramics or spray paint furniture. The excellent news is is that once you fill up your 60 page coloring book for an adult you can use it for all sorts of easy crafts. I made a special journal for myself using one of my coloring pages as the cover. Let's get coloring!

6. Coloring is Effortless and Simple

Has there ever been a point in your life when you haven't had the time to start and finish a creative project in one single sitting? If you're anything like me, I'm always going from one thing to the next, all day long. Just coloring and only one sheet of a coloring book for an adult is something that can be easily started and completed. It's not demanding at all.

In my opinion simplicity is worth a lot especially when it comes to the fact that many of our lives are filled with anxiety and stress. There are numerous adults that live around the world that have taken up the remarkable hobby of coloring. Coloring books for adults are not what you think they are. They are not filled with pictures of the little mermaid or race cars. Instead they are incredibly beautiful, detailed, and intricate. These coloring books are exquisite even before your colors hit the page. Here is one of my all time favorites.

7. Coloring As an Adult Can Take You Back to the Days of Your Childhood

When it's all colors we are brought back to the happy and stress-free days of our own childhood. It's almost like feeling that weightless joy again when you jumped off the swings or feeling the freedom you used to feel when you would get out of school for the summer. Getting back to those wonderful memories can help you distress, relax, and feel both optimistic and full of energy for the future!

No wonder why Dover Publications has sold more than 3 million coloring books for adults!

8. Spending Time Socially With Others

Coloring as a group is becoming continuously popular. Social groups have started to come up and form coloring groups. In my own town my local library is now hosting an adult coloring session. I have also seen several advertisements in my area for a mom's night of coloring and wine. Coloring does take focus and also promotes relaxation but it isn't such a difficult activity. It can be done while talking or spending time others making it a trendy group activity. Even if you have kids this is a fun activity you can do with them as well.

9. Coloring Makes Our Hand Muscles Stronger

Coloring forces us to use our fine motor muscles in our hands. Drawing and coloring are magnificent ways to make muscles in our hands that we never even knew we had stronger. Our hand muscles start to feel weak if they aren't used on a regular basis. Coloring is an awesome way to keep those muscles at their peak. Using technology all the time can make the muscles in our hands very weak and unhealthy. A practical area for which hand strength gives you wonderful benefits is for carrying suitcases or heavy bags.

10. Coloring Can Help You Avoid Becoming a Violent Person

Have you ever felt like the main character in that book about terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days? I might be exaggerating things a little bit but there have been a vast amount of scientific research studies which have linked playing (which would include coloring) in adults with improved mental health and brighter moods. In fact, in one study researchers found that 90% of mass murderers suffer from a lack of playtime. I don't think most of us have the tempers of a mass murderer but coloring can make you a more peaceful person!

My Final Words

Coloring has been very inspirational for me. It's helped me a great deal as I am going through tough times. I really feel that it can help people out there that are grieving, anxious, depressed or just lonely. Coloring in the pages of an uplifting coloring book for an adult is very healing.

Adult coloring it is probably the best tool in my toolbox of things that can make my life, mood, stress, and overall health better. The popularity of coloring books for adults doesn't seem to be going away. In the beginning I thought it would be a passing fad but it looks like I was very wrong. There are a number and variety of people out there who have taken up this enjoyable hobby and there is no sign of slacking. Coloring is extremely reassuring and simple and has beautiful results. In this day in age, there aren't many things you can say that about.
