Exercise Safety

by Dana Gore

These days, considering how many people out there are either obese, overweight or well on their way, it's no wonder that the 'diet and exercise' industry are booming.

Books, products, gadgets and the like are being advertised as hope in a bottle, dvd or group fitness class package. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it does pose a question:

Does anyone think about exercise safety? And more importantly, does anyone know they need to think about exercise safety?

To be perfectly honest, it doesn't look like it. In fact, from the looks of things, it seems that the general public is more concerned with quick weight loss. And while I completely understand, and certainly do not judge, the very real intensity behind the desire to release the unwanted pounds; there are safety precautions that warrant attention that may save you, the fitness enthusiast, from unnecessary injury, or possible death.

Ask yourself this:

  • Do you know what constitutes a personal trainer as qualified?
  • Who is educated enough to dispense nutritional advice?
  • Why you shouldn't work out with anything in your mouth?
  • What a 'special population' is and are you in this category?
  • What does 'proper progression' mean and why is it so important?
  • What, if any, contraindications do you have to exercise if you are pregnant?

A Simple Guide to Exercise Safety covers these topics and many more.

This book, which is available in paperback, Kindle and Nook formats, is a smart companion guide for exercisers and fitness professionals alike. If you are beginning, or have been involved in a fitness routine, I guarantee that you will find valuable information here that you hadn't even thought about.

If you are a qualified fitness professional, this guide will enable your clients to understand why they should be proud that they hired YOU!

In addition to exercise safety tips, the tone and philosophies in this book are designed to encourage the reader to assume personal responsibility for the role they played in their life...including the need to release excess weight. In the back of the book, you will also find health factor tables for blood pressure, glucose numbers and other necessary information in addition to common injury prevention and emergency procedures.

When we want something so badly that we can't stand it any longer...carelessness happens.

We aren't aware of what we need to be aware of and this paves the way for unwanted, and sometimes unforgivable choices in a lifestyle that is otherwise meant to bring us happiness and well-being.

Who Am I? Why Listen to Me?

I am a graduate of Fitness Institute International, Inc. school for fitness. Before making the decision to earn my certified personal training certification (CPTS), I thought I had known a thing or two about fitness, thanks to magazines, dvds and infomercials. It wasn't until I had been rewarded a job at a small women's gym that I realized how much I didn't know, and wasn't qualified to teach.

After browsing through several certification programs, most of which were online, I realized I needed an instructor. It's as though the Universe heard my thoughts because I stumbled upon the Fitness Institute the very next day! The curriculum included 360 hours of comprehensive study, including academic and hands on training in addition to written and practical examinations at the end of each of the six courses - which were 60 hours in length.

Once enrolled, I learned of the concepts included in Exercise Safety. It had dawned on me that if I had to enroll in a school program in order to understand the basic, but necessary safety precautions included in the book, then the general public certainly isn't aware either.

So there you have it. The what, how and why of a book that is designed to keep you enlightened, aware and safe in your fitness routine. I certainly hope you enjoy the content and of course, follow the safety advice and precautions included and written with love.

We're all in this together.
