Hear Burn Is Called By Stomach Acid Getting Up Into The Esophagus

Heartburn usually happens when stomach acid gets regurgitated up into the esophagus. This mainly happens because the stomach has a lining that protects it from stomach acid while the esophagus does not. However in rare cases heart burn can be a sign of ischemic heart disease.

GERD is the most common cause of heartburn. When this happens acid reflux has lead to the inflammation of the esophagus.

You don't have to take PPI medicines for your heart burn. Almost all PPI medicines can have lots of side effects. So you would be a lot better off going with natural home remedies for heart burn, GERD, and acid reflux disease.

What a lot of people fail to realize is that antacids or PPI drugs reduce the absorption of nutrients in foods especially iron and they can increase your blood pressure often to dangerous levels. PPI drugs can also harm peoples kidneys especially those people who have had kidney problems in the past.

Doctors and some home practitioners used to recommend drinking milk for heartburn but they no longer do. It has now been discovered that milk can in fact make heartburn worse because the stomach makes more acid to digest the milk and your heartburn will get worse. So don't drink milk for heartburn.

If you suffer from heartburn on a regular basis you may have to start watching what you eat a lot closer than you used to. You don't want to eat a lot of fried foods or foods containing a lot of acid or you will find your heartburn returning on a regular basis.

If you know what your trigger foods for heartburn are then you really need to avoid eating those foods. I love meat lovers pizza but I know it often gives me bad heartburn so I eat the meat lovers pizza a lot less than I used to.

I used to have a lot of trouble with heartburn and I really did feel that all the PPI drugs I was taking were causing me to have some bad side effects so I stopped the PPI drugs and started using a combination of the above natural methods to take care of my heartburn problems. I rarely have heartburn now and I don't use any antacids or PPI drugs anymore.

Feel free to post your comments, tips, or suggestions below now. And thanks for reading my Hub Page.

The Pharmaceautical Hoax - Acid Reflux Disease

The big drug companies want you to believe that you need prescription or over the counter drugs to treat acid reflux disease. But in case you don't know this just simply isn't true. There are a lot of natural home remedies that you can use to treat acid reflux disease.

The PPI drugs which are known as proton pump inhibitors, like Prevacid, Nexium, and Prilocec should only be taken for eight weeks at the most. Doctors know this about the PPI drugs but they continue to prescribe the drugs because they are big money makers for the drug companies. And believe it or not but there have been no studies done on the long term effect of these drugs on the human body.

What PPI drugs do is shut down the pumps that produce the acid in the human stomach that is necessary to digest the food that you eat. Have you never wondered how the human body digests and uses the food you eat with out stomach acids. How can the human body possibly stay healthy with out the proper digestion of food.

At one time I really suffered from acid reflux disease and spent quite a bit of money on a certain purple colored pill. But after taking this medication for several years my acid reflux became worse and my doctor told me to double the amount of the acid reflux ( PPI ) medicine that I was taking. At the same time I began to feel sluggish and tired all the time and my blood pressure was going up and up.

It didn't take me long to figure out that what I was feeling was most likely the side effects of the little purple (PPI) capsules that I was taking on a regular basis. I started doing my own research and I quickly discovered that there are hundreds of possible side effects to taking PPI drugs.

These side effects include headaches, diarrhea, back pain, stomach pain, chest pain, angina, anemia, allergic reactions, facial edema, constipation, hypertension, conjunctivitis, abnormal vision, bad depression, dizziness, nervousness, stomach ulcers, mouth ulcers and many more side effects so why in the world would anyone want to take a medicine either prescription or over the counter that is going to do all those things to you. I knew for a fact that I had to stop taking PPI drugs and so I started looking for natural remedies to use for my acid reflux disease.

But I had been taking the PPI drugs so long that when I stopped taking them that the acid pumps in my stomach that had been shut down for so long by the little purple capsules went wild and produced more stomach acid than ever before. Believe me I had never suffered so bad in my life. I would wake up strangling so bad on stomach acid that I though I was going to stop breathing. I asked my doctor what to do and he told me I needed to go back on the PPI drugs. I asked him if there were alternative solutions but he had none for me.

At the same time I was determined that I was going to find a safe home remedy to help my self and at the same time beat the big drug companies. Actually I knew I had no choice because the big drug companies had not given me any real solution to my acid reflux problems and I felt they were only making my condition worse with their PPI drugs.

And as I did my research I found out some very interesting things about acid reflux disease. The really big thing is that acid reflux is big business. The drug companies want you to keep taking the PPI drugs because they make millions of dollars off the PPI drugs and they run T.V., Internet, Magazine, and Print Ads to try to get you hooked on the PPI drugs.

Millions of Americans suffer from acid reflux disease. And many millions more suffer from the pain of heart burn. Some suffer from heartburn on a regular basis and some suffer from heartburn only when they eat certain foods.

Heart burn occurs when fluids from the stomach splash up into the esophagus. This fluid is composed of hydrochloric acid, pepsin, and occasionally even liver bile. The acid in your stomach breaks down the food you eat. And it also helps to prevent bacteria from growing and multiplying in your stomach and intestines.Your stomach has a special lining that protects your stomach from the effects of stomach acid but your esophagus does not have this lining and when your stomach acid gets up into your esophagus the result is heart burn, gerd, or acid reflux.

You should know that if this condition is left unchecked it can even result in cancer of the esophagus. All of this was quite scary to me and And since I no longer wanted to take PPI drugs I knew that I had to find alternative ways to treat my acid reflux disease.

I found that acid reflux is not really a disease but a condition that happens when the esophagus becomes irritated. And you can irritate your esophagus even further by eating your food to fast. Often when you eat your food to fast it can cause small cuts on the walls of your esophagus and later when you eat foods with acid in them they can irritate your esophagus and make the problem worse.

PPI drugs (proton pump inhibitors), like Nexium, Prilosec, Prevacid and Protonix should solely be taken for eight weeks, at most. Doctors are aware of this, however most patients proceed to take these medication on a permanent basis.
